We walked in and asked if they could seat 7 people. Bar man look at us as if we was from a different planet. Only to reply we don’t take reservation at weekend you have to find a table. The upsetting part was seeing a big table with reserved on. We got a table sat down, someone asked what soup of the day was(potato & leek) we placed the order. Tho the a sign saying 50 min wait for food we chatting away getting hungry looking at most the staff not doing much. 40 minutes or so passed someone come out the say the soup is butternut squash? So this was a big kick in crown jwels. Woo hoo the starters come out WELL some of them. Half of us got them but the pawn cocktail had to wait 10 extra minutes don’t worry waitress said sorry. Then the mains come out, if your planning on eating a steak & like medium rare then ask for blue that all I can say #overcooked the rest was ok. Sad part is Weatherspoons food is a lot better & at half the cost.

Two stars you say?! Why two stars? Well one is awarded for the cheap value meals and the other for the large beer garden. Other than that I wouldn’t go here again. Stayed five minutes as the pub wasn’t my cup of tea. Won’t say anymore on here incase I offend!

The Black Boy is steeped in so much history. It was built in 1793 and has seen two world wars. You immediately experience the heritage when entering. There’s this countryside feel contained inside, so it doesn’t really seem like you are in Birmingham at all. The canals at the back are great to gaze out over in summer time, especially if you just want to relax with a pint. Inside, there’s this amazing warmth that’s perfect during the winter. The wooden beams and old furniture are also really captivating, and I don’t think there’s anything better than eating a roast dinner here and feeling cosy next to the fire. As a child, I used to love looking around at all the little models and ornaments which clutter every shelf and wall. They kept me very entertained. I absolutely adore pubs like this, and I’m so glad that there are still so many like this out there.

Took an old friend for a birthdday treat. not impressed. the pâté I ordered arrived with loads salad and melba toast instead of hot toast as stated on the menu. waitress said sometimes we serve toast sometimes melba toast doesnt say that on the menu, freezing cold day hard melba toast could not eat it. main course fish was fine, chips frozen and not up to there usual standard. waited 40 minutes and had to ask twice for desert. Banoffee pie couldnt get the spoon in full of ice. very dissapointed. they did change it for cheesecake which was just ok. Told the waitress how dissapointed I was and she didnt know what to say. no-one came over to apologise. thats was my last visit there. on the plus side lovely log fires.

I end up here more often than I’d like on various family gatherings and am never impressed. A lovely setting by the canal, with heaps of flowers, it looks lovely from the outside but inside, no effort has been made. The menu seems extensive, but it doesn’t cater for those with smaller appetites or trying to eat healthily I tend to have the salmon which is invariably dry. As a rule, the portions are generous the ‘large’ fish and chips could feed three people which seems a bit wasteful. Not high up on my list.

This is a nice pub in the Solihull area. Usual beers on tap(stella, strongbow, john smiths). unfortunately with the good rep this pub has i expected some premium beers on tap also however it was no the case. Still gets 4 stars as drinking next to a canal on a hot day is always nice ;-).

Terrible. I had the surf and turf, I asked for the steak to be cooked medium and it came back nearly burnt and well done all the way through, the scampi was still stuck together where it had been thrown in the fryer still frozen and no garlic butter as advertised, chips were stodgy and possibly re-fried. Not happy at all, other members of my family had better but still very average and overpriced meals. Overall worse than even a Harvester meal, which isn’t a place any eaterie should aspire to be.

Could be the best food pub in Solihull but not always consistent. I highly recommend this place with one little sidenote: while the food is usually superb, we have on one or two occasions left disappointed, the consistency is not always there! Set back from the main road with a lovely garden area set near the canal, the choice of food is excellent. Whether you want a meal out with your family or somewhere to stop for lunch after a long walk this is the place to go. Always busy but service never seems to suffer and somewhere you will want to visit again and again.

Good traditional pub food and drinks. The best part, however, is their beer garden along the canal. They have a lot of tables with umbrellas. The people watching is always great, from old ladies talking about how cute the barman is to people on first dates.

A nice country pub and if you just want a drink then you cant really go wrong. there is a massive garden out the back with a childrens play area and plenty of seatin, very popular on nice days. However I would not recommend this place if you wanted to eat, there is always roughly an hours wait on food at least and it will come out either overdone or undercooked. Maybe this was just my experience, but I have heard similar things off other people. But dont let this put you off if you want a nice place to go for a drink as this ideal.

I haven’t been her for at least a year now, but used to go at least twice a month with my parents and family 10 years ago or so. The portions were then and are still(the last time I went!) very generous and delicious. Used to love the homemade lasagna and roast chicken. They also have a lovely play area outside for kids and seating outside over looking the canal. We used to go for a little walk up to the pub closer to Knowle and back again after Sunday lunch as a family year ago! The prices are fair, not the cheapest but you do get great service. The wait can be a while though if its busy
