ASDA

I do my weekly shop here for fresh fruit & vegetables, dairy and fresh flowers. While I often have organic fruit & veg delivered (free of charge!) from Parbold Fruit & Veg
Asda does some of my favourite fruit & veg better (asparagus, lychees). Asda also seem to have found a good organic supplier in ‘Good Natured’ fruit & veg for seasonal soft fruits, cucumber etc. I also like the growing herbs that Asda — like most supermarkets — sell these days.
While I currently shop at Asda due to the lack of credible local alternatives, it’s good to be aware of the downsides of current practices by large international corporations — such as Asda-​Walmart. (Wikipedia describes Walmart as ‘the largest corporation in the world.’) Think about — if our world is in a mess, there must be some room for improvement in the largest corporation on the planet, even if the web of causation is not always clear. Alternatives to Asda Skelmersdale: (1) Form a food group with your neighbours and order at wholesale prices from places like Suma Wholefoods.
(2) Lancashire Farmers’ Markets and Farm Shops
(3) Independent fruit & veg shops (see Parbold Fruit & Veg, above). (4) Grow your own!
