The lovely Japanese restaurant chain has finally arrived in Sheffield — and is being made welcome by full tables every night of the week. Friendly, welcoming staff are ready to seat you in a simple, clean Japanese-style seating arrangement, while you can watch your chosen dishes being cooked fresh to order. Try the Yakitori + the Gyoza

My girlfriend warned me about this place– or rather the Cambridge branch of the chain– but I insisted, as a Wagamama virgin, that we try the Sheffield restaurant’s offering. Big mistake! First off, the waitress was surly and pretty disinterested in us. Presumably, as she went home during our meal, she was thinking about her shift finishing. Nice. Next waitress was nice, though we didn’t have cause to see much of her. I chose a soup noodle main and a side and my partner chose a completely different main and side. My side was duck dumplings and was saturated with fat and not crispy. The hoi sin sauce made them taste better though it was still like chewing rubber. My main was a surprise because what it consisted of was this: Take some cheap noodles. Put them in boiled water until they look like they’ve mostly seperated. Add chopped raw chilli, raw red onion, and raw peppers. Now add one of the generic chicken breasts on top. Serve. I doubt this is the recipe in Wagamama’s official recipe book. Despite my girlfriend having a completely different(rice based) dish, she got EXACTLY the same generic tasteless chicken slab with her food, though some of hers had been –gasp– stir-fried. Bland raw food with generic tasteless meat is not my bag so I did my best — did I mention my noodles were hard and stuck together? — and we left without tipping. Strangely when the new waitress(who was very nice) asked how our food was and we answered honestly she responded that this wasn’t unusual and she bet we didn’t want to pay. Sadly this was not an option. I’m the future I will listen to my girlfriend. I will certainly never waste my money at any Wagamama franchise again. The food is dreadful.

Love it or hate it, Wagamamas are popping up all over the country and Sheffield is no exception. The forumla is the same as everywhere else — you’ll likely queue for a few minutes for your table and then be seated on a big bench with other diners. The service is ultra effficient and the staff always serve with a smile. The food is good, but you can tell it has been prepared in a hurry. Prices are reasonable and the wines are actually pretty decent too. A regular talking point is the Wassabi Chocolate Cheesecake — which is worth trying for fun — and actually nowhere near as bad as you might expect!

I went to Wagamama on the opening night, when i got two courses and two drinks free for each of us. As it was free, i had a good night. The food was fine, service quick. My complaint is that its not the kind of place you would stay and have a few drinks at, its definitely fast food. And im not keen on the benches where you can be sat next to anyone. Though some people love this, just not me.

I visited Wagamama the week it opened and was pleasantly surprised! Food was excellent, if a teeny bit pricey, but service was great and the staff were friendly. Shame you can’t book a table, but the wait wasn’t very long the day we went. We will be going back.

I was excited about a Wagamama branch opening in Sheffield but was really disapointed when I visited. The décor is simple, clean lined and Eastern inspired, although the wooden bench seating isn’t very comfortable. I’d heard great things about the food at Wagamama, but I found is a real let down. I love asian food and so I expect a good quality with nice flavours. However, the food at Wagamama was bland and tasteless. and overpriced compared to local(and much better!) noodle bars. The service we received was rubbish. The waiter writes down your dish number on the paper table mat, but our waiter kept writing down wrong numbers, despite us repeating what we wanted, and we received quite a few dishes that we didn’t want. Overall, I’d say that Wagamama is disapointing. For better quality asian food in Sheffield, try Noodle Inn on London Road and East Ocean Café on Matilda Street.

I was so pleased when i found out that Wagamama was coming to Sheffield. The food is fantastic, and the service is good too. Though a bit strange at first when they write your order on the place mat then cross it off as each dish arrives. Try the white chocalate and ginger cheesecake, its heavan. Log on to there website too and become a member, you will recieve regular emails for special offers throughout the country.

Wagamama has come to Sheffield and has opened in the fantastic Leopold Square. Wagamama serves delicious healthy Asian food specialising in noodle dishes. There is a range of different options but it’s too extensive that you have got too much choice. All of the food is cooked fresh and quickly and is served as it is ready. There is also a range of not so good for you and slighly unusual puddings e.g. chilli and taraming pavlova. The restaurant feels clean and modern and the staff were very welcomong and friendly to complement the excellent service. All in all, well worth a visit for lunch or an evening meal.
