Before I start, this may sound harsh, but I am only judging this place by the standard it appears to be aiming for. It says it is a ‘Micheln’ award winner on the menu, should this not be ‘Michelin’??? A Freudian slip perhaps? I like the Walnut Club in Hathersage, I think it’s idea of the 5 — 10 — 5 menu is genius, and on the times we’ve been there in the evening, it’s a la carte menu has been inspired and well worth it’s money. I am disappointed to say that it’s under achieving little brother on Ecclesall Road is not up to scratch, in light of what it is aiming to be. We ate parsnip and apple filo pastry(apple strudel), chicken liver parfait(left a metallic taste in the mouth), sea bass on mushroom risotto(risotto over powering for fish) and sweet potato curry(weakly flavoured). All of which were mediocre. The food was not of the standard expected from the original Walnut Club. Imagine this food in an interior apparently designed by Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen on a 20 second makeover, and exiting via a stair well that smells like an NCP car park(urine, poppers, fags, and jays fluid). We foolishly left Nonna’s to come here for our dinner. I’m afraid we’ll be voting with our feet on this one.

I was really disappointed when i went here, its not a patch on the Walnut Club in Hathersage. I went one lunchtime and on the specials menu was 3 courses for £??, however there was no vegetarian main course. When the waitress evenually came over to take our order i asked if there was a veggie main course to which she replied no not today, there was no attempt to make any exceptions or ask the chef/manager. The food wasn’t great and the service was poor.
