So I cropped up at this place during a quick stop back home to visit some friends, and wound up at Media City for the first time ever(’twas still being build when I left the Motherland for bonnie Haggisland). Must say, I was suitably impressed with the whole area — and this place was the most quirky looking place there. Lots of outside seating, perfect for whiling away a sunny Manchester afternoon — all 3 of them at least… Inside its all high glass windows, lots of exposed wood walls and beams, and that«battered» look you see in a lot of interior design at the mo. Good selection of craft beers — including one they make(and name after) themselves. They even do a nice(?!) non-alcoholic beer which suited my pregnant friend down to the ground. Best bit was the price — £3.50 for a craft lager was music to the ears to a fella now used to Edinburgh prices! Food was good too, and similarly well priced. I managed some incredible, crispy chicken wings. They come served in these old style tin bowls — essentially the same as the ones I used to use for Scouts, so nice nostalgia factor there! My wings were amazing, sweet potato fries less so — can’t be sure whether that was the fries themselves, or the fact they whop the wings over the top of them, turning said fries into a soggy, uninspiring mess. Staff are friendly, helpful, everything you’d expect. Will be back next time I’m down that neck of the woods!

I’d been hearing rave reviews about this place, so I had to give it a go. I popped down after doing some shopping in Lowry, and all that walking around had worked up quite an appetite, so I was drooling at the prospect of some great pub grub. I opted for the Traditional Mac Burger with Fries and went for the Dockyard Amber Ale on the side. Whilst, the burger was good, I won’t say great because I have definitely had better(and Manchester is somewhat Burger heaven at the moment), but it was tasty and it filled the spot nonetheless. The Amber Ale was fantastic and went down perfectly as the scarcely visible Manchester sun crept through the clouds. The layout is cool and has a real hipster vibe to it. I sat outside on one of many outdoor tables(perfect for a groups) and enjoyed spotting the celebrities that were in between scenes of Corrie! Thoroughly enjoyable lunch in the sun, will definitely be back on my next venture to the Quays/Media City.

The Dockyard is one of the latest drinking establishments to open its doors in Media City over in Salford Quays. It is a proper pub as well as offering an excellent outdoor space which includes seating its own bar and BBQ. This is a great pub for people watching with ITV and the BBC being based here you are bound to spot the odd familiar face or two.

I just love this bar! Been quite a few times now and the place has a fantastic vibe. Well stocked bar and an awesome selection of real ales and craft beers. The food is also really good and very reasonably priced too. Definitely the best place for a drink on or around the quays/media city.

The Dockyard was the first real ‘pub’ to open at MediaCityUK and boy was it needed! Run by Steve Pilling and his team, it’s a great, un-pretentious place for all the media peeps to hangout and for visitors to enjoy. Real ales, carafes of wine and hearty food(burgers, sandwiches and salads), Dockyard is right at the heart of the city overlooking the glorious Piazza. The price tag feels about right for what is on offer(burgers start around £6) and there’s certainly a buzzy atmosphere to the place. They have regular live music nights and events and a screen showing music videos. I’ve always found an eclectic mix of people in the place, from BBC and ITV employees to theatre goers enjoying a pre or post-theatre meal or drink. Occasionally you may spot a celebrity from Coronation Street, BBC Breafast(Mike Bushell is a regular) or one of the many shows made at MediaCityUK — but I am afraid that is not a guarantee ;) Worth a visit if you’re in the vicinity.

I guess I’ve had mixed feelings on this place for awhile. Or maybe it’s just that there’s not a lot of choice in Salford Quays for chilling out that mixes my mind up. A slight feeling of making do. However, yesterday I visited twice. Once at lunch, and had a pretty good chicken curry and rice for fiver, whilst sat in the sun outside — ok, it was served with fresh white bread… a bit odd, and I had to go back to order a second time as the kitchen was too busy to take new orders or something like that. Either way sat out in the sun with a mate, and modest priced tasty food was a good point in the week. Revisiting after wurk, it’s a different vibe. Slightly louder music, but for me, not too loud. Time to try 2 or 3 of their fairly wide range of beer — fans of 13 Guns will find it here! It’s pretty busy with a mixture of beeb folk and agencies. For the first time in many years I found myself playing fuseball! I was rubbish, but it was great fun.(Put ‘some’ money behind the bar for the ball! So, I had a really good time with a couple of mates here yesterday so it gets a 4 star, though it’s not without niggles, and a lot of the time I think it’d be more 3 star as the beer is slightly pricey, and it can just be too busy when you want to chill /reward yourself with an end of day pint.

Decided to visit here for the first time before going over to 7 brothers brewery… It was nice to see that they are supporting local breweries as well as the more established brands. The place is nice and airy with ample seating inside and out. The beer which I had was perfect. The food looked very scrumptious. I have since been back again but until there is more bars in the media city area I wont be returning(unless I am looking in the wrong places…) — good news is that they are soon opening a new place in Spinningfields which I am really looking forward to! Overall a very good bar with friendly staff and good beer.

Came here for a few drinks after a Unilocal event, only had one cider– Koppaberg elderflower which was IMMENSE I haven’t had it before and was quite exciting! This is essentially a really cool bar where I imagine lots of BBC people go after work so it was quite exciting watching who came through the door and hoping to see some famous people! Sadly we didn’t :(BUT had a lovely time and will definitely come back in the summer when you can sit outside in their lovely garden bit and watch the sun go down! Not cheap drinks but brilliant view and helpful staff :)

We popped in here for a couple of sherbets late one night after doing an event at 7 Bro’s brewery in Salford and I have to say I was really impressed — much better that I was expecting based on what my previous experiences to the quays have been like years ago. Salford Quays seems to be getting better and better and I’d happily call in at the Dockyard again in the future. One thing I loved was their support of local breweries(as well as having all the usual suspects on the beer front) — especially seeing 7 Bro7hers on tap and a heavy load of Shindigger which I love — their West Coast Pale Ale is ‘Simply The best’ as Tina Turner would sing! Loads of seating and a nice and airy feel to the place — nice job Dockyard!

Myself and a pal were looking for a different venue for our usual Sunday Roast outing and I recalled seeing a sign outside advertising them, the last time I was here. So Sunday last, we hopped a tram(£3.00 return if you want to pay for a ticket) and got off at Media City. The pub is literally opposite the tram stop. Ordered the advertised Sunday Roast for £10 and was delighted to be told that they give you a starter of soup and crusty bread as a side, all inclusive. That soup was quite possibly the most delicious and warming we’d had in ages! The roast — when it arrived shortly after — was served with some generous cuts of tender lamb. My pal was complimentary about their beef roast too. Perhaps the vegetables were a little too crunchy(and does anyone ever serve enough gravy???) but the gravy itself was lush, plus the mash and plentiful seasoned roasties made the overall experience simply delightful. We capped it off with a bottle of their house white(bit pricey at £15.50) and went home that evening truly satisfied and ready for the working week ahead.

We went here for a drink before we went to the cinema at the Lowry. Comfy chairs and a laid back atmosphere. My little boy was impressed with the table football. We liked it so much that we went back after the cinema for food. Food was presented ok and service was quick we all had burgers the only bad thing I can say bout this was that all our food came out at different times so we were all eating at different times. Will Defo be going back as I love how chilled out it is

How on earth has this slipped under the radar? Perhaps due to its location and the unwelcoming parking situation(Unwelcoming in that there’s no free parking) this was my first visit to The Dockyard. It was the setting for a post Unilocal Elite event knees up and although my knees had no plans on going anywhere I had a very pleasant evening. In fact it’d be fair to say I absolutely loved the place. The setting is very American(which rarely is nothing but a negative if you’ve read any of my other reviews in general) but in a good way. The high glass ceiling, the huge bar area with plentiful sitting area around the bar. I could easily shoot a bar meet scene in here, I was thinking sat with the Unilocal group. Further more given its location in Media city it’s surprisingly cheap compared with the price points in city centre bars or in the Northern Quarter. The atmosphere was very relaxed despite the bar being very busy for a school night and I could see it being an absolute belter of a venue for a mid summer friday night. I will be updating this review once I’ve had a proper gander, you can bet on that my Unilocalersona bellissimas. So watch this space.

On a visit to our first ever Unilocal event we got off the tram&came across this place. Pretty busy when we arrived but we we’re served in no time. Prices weren’t too bad considering its at media city. Fairly big inside with friendly staff. Great outdoor patio area. Great selection of beers. Only went in for a quick pint but ended up having a couple more and nearly being late for the event. Never ate there, so carn’t comment. Will be defo going back when got more time to enjoy the place&write a better review after next visit.

This was the first time Iv been here and I enjoyed it. It in the middle of all the BBC studio’s in Media city did not see any famous people tho :-(Iv not tryed the food yet so can’t comment on that but next time I visit will have to try it the staff was very nice and polite the bar was very busy but did not wait long to get served now that what I call service. When you leave the bar you only got a short walk to the tram stop which was very handy. So hopefully will be visiting this bar again very soon

Regular here for lunch hour at work! Nice choice of ales on tap that change regularly so always something new to try! They do nice pub grub; pies, burgers, fish n chips etc and all is very decently priced. They normally seem to have a £5 special on the menu too! I’d also recommend here for after-work drinks, nice atmosphere and plenty of space for larger groups!

After visiting The Lowry for the ‘Behind the Mask’ exhibition, we were obviously looking for somewhere to eat. Culture makes me hungry, y’know? With front runners Penelope’s and Love Conquers All both closed until at least 5th January, I suggested trying The Dockyard. It’s a large pub, with lots of wood and leather chairs. We plonked ourselves on one of the high tables near the window, instantly questioning the usability of them as they each have a large post, handily blocking the sun on this occasion, but also blocking anyone who happened to sit behind them. The menu is small but I would say well put together — quite classic, comfort food, including pies and a selection of sandwiches, most served with fries — and affordable. It was a toss up between the chicken wings or chicken burger, and I eventually went for the latter. When the food came, it came in the hands of a waitress who said nothing. Not a peep. She simply stood by the table until we said something, then she mumbled thanks and walked away. No offer of cutlery or napkins, which the table next to us also experienced, but they managed to catch her eye to ask for some, but no luck for us. The food was okay, though there was none of the promised spice in the chicken that was described on the menu, and the cheese wasn’t melted whatsoever. The nachos made me feel a bit sad inside; the guac was okay, with a real citrus tang, but the sour cream tasted a bit sweet, and the salsa simply made the chips go soggy. The bacon was the main redeeming feature, so crispy you could snap it. The fries were good and lots of crispy bits to pick out, so I made sure to leave some of these for last. I didn’t expect magic for the £6 mark for a main meal, but friendlier service and some melted cheese would seriously go a long way.

Came here with parents and brother the other week after we had been to the BBC Media City tour. Before the visit, I had asked other people for recommendations and had a look at the Media City web site for different options for places to eat. A few people mentioned Dockyard and I liked the look of the menu. We visited on a Sunday and they had some lunch specials. 2 courses for £10 — soup and roast. Also had daily specials from £5. My Mum and brother went for the roast and said it was good. I went for the chicken burger(with sweet potato fries) — they call it the Dr Hunter. This was a double and cost £8.95. For dessert we shared some waffles. The waffles were really nice. You could tell they were freshly made. The waffles had syrup on and ice cream. Nice, simple and delicious.
