The Cricketers

Looks a pleasant place — No idea what the beer is like (on this visit). Barman seemed to think he had two (x2) separate things to do rather than serve me. Still — It gave me time to get out Unilocal,and decide to try the immediately adjacent ‘The Princes Head’. Their beer is great — but most importantly their service is superb!

I was very disappointed with the service, food & drink when out with work colleagues.
I had made a booking about 2 weeks in advance for a large party (15 of us) but once we got there, it was pretty clear that it was a ‘self service’ kind of place. With our table being upstairs, we had to go up and down to get more round of drinks as well as food order. After our first drink, they had ran out of the ale some of us were drinking. Secondly, when placing the food order I was informed that they had ran out of not only sausages but also the steak! So, had to order something else… ended up going for the burger (big mistake) as it tasted like it had come out straight from the freezer bag.
All in all, it was truly disappointing and can say that neither myself or any of my work colleagues, who are local in the Richmond area, will not be coming here again!

I have no idea what the food is like but the beer is the best in Richmond.

I was told that this was a must-​stop now that I live in Richmond and that is absolutely true. I haven’t been here long, but I can already tell that this is one of those pubs that represents the town that it’s in very well. Ales, ciders, upscale pub food, a cricket theme, a cozy feel and a lovely green across the street. Outdoor seating, locals, a clean space and good service. Excellent all around!
I’m not a sports fan, generally, but I can tell that this will be a favorite place to meet friends (hope to make those soon) or just pop in for a quick and tasty casual dinner with my husband. Nice and elegant, but not fussy — I definitely recommend it.

The Cricketers is a pub tied to Greene King in Richmond.
During a wander around Richmond I happened upon The Cricketers on my way back to the train station, and decided to pop in and see if they had any ales on draft I’d not had before.
Proceeding through the door I was met with a small, well furnished pub that seemed a fine place to stop off before heading home. It was fairly empty as is to be expected of a Friday afternoon, so I couldn’t get a sense of what the atmosphere was usually like, but as I found it The Cricketers would be an equal home to friends, families or couples. The upstairs area provides more seating and a pretty view of the cricket green the pub is situated next to — I’m sure the view alone could make this a pleasant place to rest your bones on a hot sunny day.
While I didn’t have any food myself, looking over the menu I was happy to see a good range of reasonably priced English favourites, sometimes hard to find in Richmond where food prices can rocket up to the astronomical and ridiculous. One guest ale was on when I visited amongst an array of the standard fare found most places. However one pump did carry a house ale unique to this location alone, which is common of Greene King pubs. Named after the pub itself, Cricketers is an easy drinking malty ale with notes of burnt caramel which reminded me to return to this pub during more pleasant, warmer weather.
All in all a fairly standard experience. What got me excited about visiting again was talking to the brother and sister pair that have recently taken over management. Obviously fans of a good pint themselves, I was interested to hear their plans to begin brewing their own ales on site, as well as filling the bar with craft brews from the local area. My understanding was that The Cricketers would become a go-​to spot for tasting what the brewing scene in South London has to offer. This would certainly carve the pub its own niche and sense of character that I didn’t sense during my brief visit.
I look forward to returning, especially as The Cricketers has the potential to be something really special.

After walking into and not being able to get a table at two other pubs, we decided to wander in and check out this venue which looked rather quaint but nothing special. We ordereded a drink and were told of the upstairs dining area which we decided to check out. Overlooking the park was nice but this place still lacked atmosphere and had a tacky feel in my opinion. The food was ok but not raveable and not something im going to hurry back for (might just check out another nearby oub next time). I had the chips, mushy peas (choice of mushy peas or salad) and scampi which was a bit greasy — i hate having to choose between mushy peas and salad as mushy peas is always the winner which makes salad an extra side not included with the meal — needless to say i didnt get my salad. My sister had the roast turkey with cranberry sauce and endless potatoes and veg. She seemed to enjoy the most but said the meat was a little dry. All in all an ok place but im goin to keep exploring what other pubs richmond has to offer.

Bland food with horrible service! Even witnessed a staff member make a customer cry! Very rude people who work there!

Given it’s location, this could be a toff hell. But it’s not — it attracts a mixed crowd, especially on a warm summers day when this becomes more of a shop than a bar — as you can take your drinks over on to the Green for fun in the sun.
It does a job.
Richmond Green really is a nice place to be when the sun is out. Chances are you’ll find yourself in The Cricketers to use the loo or to grab another cider.

Awful food, had their version of halloumi, rubbery, fake plastic cheese, straight out of freezer and chucked in microwave. OK everything else, but nothing to make it stand out. As others have pointed out, they have a prime location on Richmond Green, so it’s a nice spot to buy a beer to take away in the summer, but that’s all.

You know what, I actually really like the Cricketers. Situated in one Richmond’s most enviable locations, smack-​bang on the Green, this small pub plays host to a LOT of drinkers in the summertime, when it acts more like an pint-​purchasing outlet than a pub, with drinkers electing to sit on the Green and sup their tipples.
However, the actual pub is half decent too. The downstairs is cosy, with sofas at the back and quiet areas. There is a large room upstairs too, with nice sofas next to the window (cracking view) and tables upstairs too.
It’s nice to be able to frequent a drinking establishment that is not a corporate chain, and also one that is not the preserve of rich idiots in Crew Clothing or Jack Wills. Top stuff.

Another nice pub which is slightly more modern than the Princes Head next door and slightly nicer in my opinion. It’s considerably smaller and fills out more but it has less of the ‘old man’ feel that next door can sometimes have.
Mind you, while it avoids that ‘old man’ feel it can very occasionally attract those ‘I’m a rich bastard and I’m going to let everyone know about how big my rich head is by wearing cashmere and vomiting money allover your little fuck tard of a face’ types.

The Cricketers is packed in the summer, but no one drinks inside the pub. The custom here is to take your beer out onto Richmond Green in a plastic cup, where you can catch a game of cricket or simply while away a lazy summer’s day. There’s a good selection of beer and the bar even features a selection of guest ales. When I visited the pub, on a warm April weekend, rather aptly it was Ale-​Pril fool that was guesting!
A review before has said that the Cricketers is a Youngs Bar — this is no longer the case and it is now owned by Greene King. Luckily the chain seems to be pretty cheap and whilst I was there they had an offer on sparkling wine — where a bottle of wine cost just £5. The only negative was the long queues at the bar, but on a warm summer’s day this is to be expected.

Ah, bank holiday weekend! It just wouldn’t be right to celebrate Easter Sunday without spilling out in the streets of a local boozer and clinking a few glasses to the the fact that everyone has a long lie in the next morning. Bliss!
Cricketers was this very pub for me. A cute little place packed out to the brim with local people (in a nice Unilocal way and not a League of Gentlemen style). Plenty of ales and ciders if that’s your thing and a decent enough house white for me. The staff were especially friendly which I really admired given just how busy and boozey the place was. What better way is there to break up a heated argument than to suggest its resolution over a game of jenga. Genius!

This pub has never really done it for me — something is missing? — It might be me but I don’t get it.
Pleasant enough pub on the picturesque Richmond Green it is next to the Princes head and is a popular hangout in the summer given its location. Like a lot of pubs in the area you need to hit at the right time or your visit will be wasted with very little people or atmosphere.
Typically pub with no frills, I have never been impressed by the food and think on it as a pub and no more. Overall an o.k. pub, there are better in the area (next door for instance) and I feel it needs to re-​invent itself or have the now popular refurb and gastro treatment. As I said before though I might be missing the point and it could be a closed shop in terms of getting to know people.

The Cricketers is a very typical pub in Richmond or in outer London. The food isn’t particularly good, the atmosphere isn’t amazing, the building isn’t atmospheric, the beer isn’t special, however it is right on Richmond green and on a sunny day, it brings out a magical quality to the area, sociable people spilling out on to the sidewalk, cricketers trying to win a game, families playing on the side of the green.

The Cricketers is an OK-​ish Youngs pub in an excellent location, right on Richmond green. However, if you really want to drink Youngs — then you can do so in a better pub — The White Cross, or The Waterman’s Arms but 2 minutes walk away. If you want to drink summer beer, then The Princes Head next door is Fullers and has discovery on draught all the time, so there’s not a great deal to recommend The Cricketers over these places. OK — the staff are slightly hotter here, but that’s not why you go drinking, right?!
