I took the pictures of the greasy food to be an exception, considering the other reviews… but MAN this stuff is greasy!!! I had Take Away for some Lamb Rogan Josh, and its a tin half full with oil. The chutney’s were decent, but the«Paratha» was absolutely terrible… like eat one bite and stop bad. I gave it 2 stars because, besides the grease, the rogan josh was actually pretty tasty. 10£ lost isn’t the end of the world. Perhaps they have other tasty dishes, but too poor of a first impression to return.

Generally oily food with nothing unique, the dishes were poorly presented and over cooked.

Like Aleksandra points out — good enough for the Dalai Lama, good enough for the rest of us. In this case his wisdom has not failed him! I’ve been here a couple of times, usually for colleague’s leaving parties. Great beer fuelled curry nights, from what I recall the food was very good too. I have a distinct recollection of some of our American colleagues pulling the ‘bring me your hottest dish’ stunt and proceeding to eat a mouthful of vinadloo each, proceeding to swerve towards the pilau rice thereafter. The Standard does not pretend to be something it is not. The décor is dated, the carpet is old, but if you’ve found your way here, you’re probably here for the food, and if I’m honest, you could do much worse.

It is a well known fact that THEDALAILAMA comes here when he is England. How awesome is that? Apparently his friend owns this big Curry house, and by golly should he be proud because it serves up some of the best curry I have eaten out. They also have a B.Y.O.B policy which is brill for student budgets and meals out with loads of mates. The curry is excellent. Never had a bad tummy complaint either. Because I am a wuss and cannot handle my heat the chicken tikka massala is my perfect option. Or something with King prawns, that is always a winner. Their naan bread is exquisite and they will always top up your chutney and popadums– the sign of a good place. They have good set menu offers as well for penny saving whilst gorging. And as we have already discussed, if a place is good enough for the Dalai Lama, it is good enough for me!
