The harbour has suffered from under investment and poor planning for a few years now, and is silting to a great degree, making it less usable than previously. Once a great engineering feat and architecturally important, now being neglected. New services due in March may help to revive the ferry port, but the closure of the Maritime Museum, and the threat by the council of selling off the building and adjacent land, could severely damage this once great asset. Less visiting boats from abroad and less events based at the harbour are the result of the neglect. What a pity.

Lovely small harbour with plenty of interesting boats and yachts moored all year round. Within walking distance of the town centre. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes around the harbour, some with a lovely sea view. Occasionally a pirate ship is moored in the harbour and you can take a our of this. There are sometimes boat races and similar events going on in the summer. Passenger ferries unfortunately no longer go to France from the harbour.

Lovely location for mooring up, after an exciting time at sea. Lots of interesting boats and yachts are here all year round. Close to the town centre and local restaurants and cafes. Boat trips are available from here around certain parts of the isle’s coast.
