I found this shop years ago after an extensive search of chippies in the area. It is not just the best in Otley, but the best for miles around. This is because of the quality of the ingredients, not least the beef dripping used for frying and the top notch fish. It is busy as a result and everything is cooked fresh, so there may be a short wait. Prices are very reasonable and the fishcakes and sausages are also excellent value. The cooking is done by a wonderful father and daughter team who treat everyone the same, regardless of the value of the order. No wonder it has so many regulars.

A lot of people really rate this chippy, and quite a few say it’s the best in Otley (which is quite a title as there’s about one chip shop for every three people in this town).
I don’t think it’s as good as it’s reputation suggests, however — it’s often busy and I found the service to be slow last time I was there. The food itself was fairly good though — I only had chips but they were piping hot and greasy, just the way they should be.
I still prefer Bondgate, a bit further down the road, but this place isn’t bad. It’s just not as good as people will have you believe. And it shamelessly uses the Chevin’s name in vain.
