Great friendly pub, good beers and even better food — not pricey either — midweek deals(after 7pm I think) are about £6−8 with a drink. Also does a very good full English. has a small car park(about 8 – 10 spaces) or street parking after 6⁄630 pm — check the signs as it’s a permit area. Overall you will be pleased you gave it a try.

One of the more upmarket pubs thats situated within the Golden Triangle of Norwich. The Unthank arms is a popular haunt for locals straying in from Newmarket Road, and wine guzzling locals. The pub has a nice cosy feel, but can feel a bit cold and sparse during the week if there not many people about. The meals are quite expensive, but I do believe you get what you pay for their and don’t feel short changed. There is a nice garden outside, but the coverings for smokers could be improved. A yearly highlight is the Red Card comedy club week, worth a visit if you fancy wetting yourself with laughter. Nice!

The Unthank Arms, the peculiarly named to outsiders such as me. Named after a local town or village near Norwich I believe. I was in here for a friend’s birthday, we just made it before the heaven’s opened, scrambled in and I headed to the bar while everyone messed about dragging tables and chairs about. I drank a lovely local tipple called Golden Jackal, from the Wolf brewery, howling good so they say, and to be fair it was. I had a few. It was a good drink to have with my meal, not too strong or gassy. For dinner I started with belly pork and some form of dip, it was nice, possibly overcooked but for six quid it seemed more like four pork scratchings and McDonald’s dipping sauce. The main course made up for it; hock of ham with mustard mash and creamed leeks. The vegetables all tasted beautifully fresh and the mustard mash rivalled my own university recipe, it were good, really good. The ham was extremely tender, falling from the bone, rare yet with crispy outer glory. A fine meal and really good value, the main more than levelling out what was a poor starter. The pub itself was a fine old building, purpose built for the surrounding mid-1800s estate, popular with students and locals alike. The garden was enormous, like a football pich, but for the rain I may have run about outside, instead I cowered under some roofing and smoked. The staff were really efficient, friendly and frankly damned attractive, as were the regulars, if a little less attractive. Was I ever to return to the area I’d encourage a return visit.
