I LOVE clubbing, but this place seems distinctly average. I’d recommend checking what time doors open, and then leaving it two hours, and having pre-drinks somewhere cheaper; we once turned up on the dot and were running wild in the place for a good half hour on our own paying rather expensive drink prices. Pretty decent, especially on Friday’s for propaganda, and I have to admit their live gigs are definitely worth a look if it’s someone you like– the stage effects and atmosphere of a bigger venue but the intimacy and not-getting-crushed-to-death of a smaller one. Always seems to have drink offers– just make sure you check the price before you order, they can catch you out sometimes on things that you would think would be less expensive. OH and take out cash, not only does it stop you from spending EVERYTHING on your card, but it also makes getting a drink ALOT quicker. Music is a mix of club and indie classics, good for a dance and a sing-along. The upstairs smoking area is ALWAYS packed, and a great place for meeting new people of course. Despite the bathrooms being pretty dire with a long queue I would not recommend a sneaky piss in the corner as the security like to kick people out for that ;) Worth it with a group of people, probably not alone.

I visited this club on a Friday. I felt out of place because nearly all of the clientele were under 20. There were three rooms, but not much variation in music from room to room. Drinks were cheap, but tasted flat and no straws! I dressed up to go, but found most people had not made an effort. I didn’t find the atmosphere friendly, club was dirty and drunk people kept bashing into me which sent mine and their drinks flying. I’m sure it’s great if you are 18, if not, I wouldn’t bother. The search for decent nightlife in Northampton continues

Worst place I have ever been to, the place is being run into the ground by rude management and offensive bouncers. They want to be a student venue however they need to learn basic maners first. The floor are sticky from spilt drinks from weeks gone by and often they dont even open more than one room. The toilets are a huge drug den where people can easily shoot up or sniff what they want without being caught. Stairs are dangerous in wet weather and a massive health and safety risk. The only redeeming factor is the sound system and the acts can be pretty good, but why would big acts go to such a bad venue, they should look at going else where in town.

Since it’s renovation and the closure of the Soundhaus, the New Roadmender has really come into it’s own as a live music venue and nightclub specialising in alternative and rock music. I’ve seen various bands here(most recently Iglu & Hartley) and always been impressed with the acoustics and staging arrangements. As a nightclub it come sometimes be quite empty but, as the only place in Northampton that caters for those into rock and indie music, it’s still a good night out. If you don’t mind the odd bit of sticky floor, sweaty grebos and drinks in plastic glasses then this place is for you!
