Oh dear. Went here as a group last night with high hopes but ultimate disappointment. If you are going to specialise in one thing then you should really make sure you serve it immaculately and with top notch sides as well. This is all the more important if you are charging decent money. I paid £10.95 for two sausages with mashed potatoes plus simply cooked cauliflower and broccoli. I also received a small teapot full of lumpy, lukewarm gravy. Not great. On the plus side, the building is great and the staff were excellent.

Wow, talk about pleasant surprises! Don’t get me wrong, the place looks and smells fantastic, but not being someone who orders sausages, hot dogs, or anything of the sort on paper this wouldn’t be my type of place… alas, it pays to try everything at least once and this place is simply one of my favourite recent finds. First off, these guys make sausage seem like a dang art form! Whether it be a hung over breakfast, hearty dinner, or something else altogether these guys will have you covered. To be honest I normally have to go for the smaller sizes, I once forgot to specify and had far too much food! The desserts here have been fantastic too(goodness, the chocolate soufflé), as have the oysters(huge!)… both a very pleasant surprise. For the star, the sausages themselves, I would say order whichever sounds good to you… for me it’s normally the Black Pudding sausage on a mooring(OK, afternoon!) after a few drinks… but I haven’t had anything here I haven’t liked, again… keeping in mind that I shy away from similar dishes at all other times, Full English Breakfasts and BBQs included. I love the look and feel of this place, and they have a sausage dog called Hannah… an honest to goodness cute as can be sausage dog that is often in.(Of course if you don’t like the idea of that it’s a minus, but then I assume you have no soul or are allergic at best.) The service has been through the roof as well… some friends and I have been a couple of times and the staff, management, etc., are always awesomely friendly… if you keep to yourself they are the right level of attentive, but if you have a bit of banter they are very cool and wonderful to speak to… something that is missing a lot these days. I almost feel like the name isn’t doing these guys justice because despite being a completely accurate summary, the variations of the dishes, that reach far beyond the cosmetic, makes it seem like so much more.(Cosmetic comment explanation: the flavours very WILDLY… they’re not just dressing up the same underlying dishes in a different manner.) Having sadly left Newcastle now this is definitely on my list to return to when back in town, hopefully often. (Oh, and for those wondering, they have a few draft beers as well.)

Trish and I have been trying new places in Newcastle for Friday lunch and a gossip so this time we tried here. If already been following them on Facebook as they only just opened, so I was intrigued. We went for the beetrooty vegetarian option(I know, a bit of an odd choice) but often that’s the way to see how much a place ares about their food. We were visited by the shop dog, a sausage dog of course, and she was lovely. I think she was hoping for a treat. So cute! The waiter was nice and the whole experience a good one. I like the fact that they are in the old railway arches!
