Sadly this vegetarian pub has changed hands many times and trying to get food had been very hard work. As a result we all stopped going. Its changed hands again and now serves meat and reduced the veggie vegan options. The new management dont get the veggie bit and still advertise it as a veggie pub. Ive only ever found 1 veggie beer in this veggie pub. Sadly the changes have not worked and even less ppl visit now

Whenever I’m in Newcastle I make sure I visit this place. Perfect location by the Quayside and great veggie menu. It gives student discount and is warm and cosy with great music. Don’t be put off my an unusual seemingly butcher’s shop name– it couldn’t be more veggie if it tried :)

Even if it is a bit worn around the edges it is still a very cosy and character filled timber framed pub. This is the best basic veggie pub around these parts which is also reasonably priced. Nothing special but it is not trying to be anything but a pub. The staff is friendly and nice.

This places serves great vegtarian food at a really reasonable price — the service is friendly and the place is nice and relaxed. A great place to go if you are a vegetarian as you dont have to worry about anything on the menu. The vegan menu isnt as varied but there is plenty here if your just vegetarian. Have taking meat eating friends to who enjoyed their meal

Be warned, despite the well-publicised accolades that Bob Trollop’s has received for its vegetarian menu, it should be stressed that it shares a kitchen with the next-door pub that has numerous meat dishes on the menu. So if you’re hoping for a veg-only kitchen, look again, as this isn’t it. Also, there’s not too much care put into vegan options, as I recall a supposedly vegan meal once being served with distinctly egg-containing mayonnaise. This is why the strictly-veg menu doesn’t really ring true. That said, it does have a great décor and old-fashioned look to it, and if you’re just planning on having a few drinks, this is one of the more relaxed and atmospheric Quayside pubs for it.

Bob Trollopes — which won ‘Vegetarian Pub of the Year’ in 2000 — is located on Newcastle’s Quayside, next to the Red House pub and opposite the Guild Hall. This area has any number of pubs, bars and eateries — there is something here to suite every taste and every pocket. Part of the Wessex Taverns chain, this is an old timber framed pub with traditional décor — bare floorboards, oak beams, old irons and a blazing open fire in the ‘snug’. The pub is split into two distinct areas, to the front there is a larger bar and dining area with a plate glass window: the back room is very small, very dark and very cosy. The bar at the front provides a partial view of the Tyne bridge and Quayside. There used to be a free jukebox in the front bar, however I have no idea if it’s still there as I always head straight for the warmth of the tiny back room. There is always music playing but it’s always quietly in the background rather than ear-splittingly loud like so many places. The bar at the rear of the pub may be accessed from the covered and tiled Victorian alley which also leads to the rear of the Red House. The menu is moderately priced and entirely vegetarian. I have to be truthful and say that the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be, however, that’s not to say that it’s bad. There is a fairly good variety of starters and main courses, and a more limited choice of traditional desserts. The food is quite nice and it’s moderately priced. The drinks are quite expensive compared to a number of other pubs in the city. This pub has a really nice atmosphere and in the winter months it’s lovely to sit in front of the old range, watching the flames and enjoying a stodgy pudding and a pint(or if you’re a wine drinker they do a nice shiraz). There are regular buses from the centre of the city to the Quayside and a taxi rank is located outside the pub. Although the bar is mostly on one level, using a wheelchair may present a few problems — there is limited space in the back room, the tables in the front bar are on a raised plinth, there are heavy swing doors to negotiate and the entrance is cobbled. Toilets to the rear of the pub are generally clean and well maintained. Opening Times: Monday — Saturday 11am — 11pm Sunday noon — 10.30pm. Tel: 01912611037

This pub has an award winning vegetarian menu which is full of veggie starters, mains and desserts. There aren’t many vegan options though. If you are a meat only person then away you go(next door to the neighbouring pub). I had a boursin and asparagus quiche with my afternoon pint which was splendid indeed. Bob Trollops sits next to the Tyne river just past the Tyne bridge and is the only pub I know that has a strictly vegetarian menu in Newcastle. A 20 minute walk from the Centre of town will work up your appetite or you can hop on a bus to the quayside. Allsorts of people stop by here, from office workers to rough and tumble types. It’s a fairly small pub but if it gets too busy I’m sure they’d let you sit in the pub next door.
