Another university bar in the very studenty fallowfield. Woolton Hall is firstly a very quiet campus in contrast to the Owen’s Park Tower area and the surrounding the buildings. It’s less lively and well, I guess students actually get some studying done in this part of the campus! Anyhow, I wouldn’t really have an idea about the stuyding bit, since I’m pretty much a last minute racer. This bar is obviously also a reflection of its Hall, quiet and well, not so lively. The good thing is the free pool and fooseball table, which is common to the OP bar as well, but this one, you actually can enjoy without having to wait your turn for ages! Though the missing noise and liveliness adds to the drag of the place. Drinks are of course, cheap and serves good! The only reason I would stumble here, is if I prefer a good laugh and games with my friends without the rushing atmosphere of the OP bar.

The difficulty with reviewing university hall bars is that they’re all exceptionally cheap, and so mentioning it as a plus starts to become a little redundant after a while. It’s like saying there’s oxygen in the air. For one to actually be good it has to stand up on the other tenants of a good bar, namely atmosphere and quality. Woolton Hall suffers from the curse of many hall bars in that it is often as empty as the grave. Less so even, because graves have at least one person in them. If you get there with friends then you can have a laugh, but since you’d be in Owen’s Park you might as well do what everyone else does and go to OP Bar.

Woolton Hall is one of the quietest Fallowfield campuses, with only five small blocks with no more than 45 students living in each. The quietness has a direct impact on the bar, which is very empty at all times. It’s a small bar in the Junior Common Room but all students, even from other halls or universities, are welcome. It has a similar appearance to Owens Park Bar, though its less sticky and cold and has a more homely feel, in accordance with the ethos of the campus on which it is situated. The bar has gone through a £7000 refurbishment over the summer, and it is looking considerably nicer. They serve a wide range of beers, wines and spirits and they’re all cheap. Tetleys and Calsberg cost only £1.30, Blackthorn is £1 and house wines are only £1.30 per glass. House spirits too are very cheap, at £1 per shot. Its slightly cheaper than OP, but what you save monetarily(about 50p) you pay for in boredom. There is a free pool table and table football but OP too has these and it’s a livelier more enjoyable venue. What they do have, which for me is the only cause of significant centripetal forces operating on the bar, is a free table tennis table, which is a good laugh with a few mates alongside a cheap beer.
