I’m constantly on the hunt for a great hair stylist. After all, they’re like your best friend, your preacher, your conscience all rolled into one. They’re not easily ditched (it may be my loyalty gene), and once you’ve found one, you keep them hidden like a little secret that’s only shared with your nearest and dearest. After one visit, I’m not 100% convinced I’ve found this in VS.
Sure– their reputation is unparalleled. And like my fellow Unilocaler said, THEY certainly do tell you what you want. Which, for the most part is okay by me. I’m not a hair stylist and darned if I know what I look good in /​what looks good on me. But two things I do know: I don’t like my curly hair and when I pay a small fortune to have it cut and styled, I like to have it straightened.
Buzzing in a bit of factory-​like way, they do take great care to give you a great cut. Their whole philosophy is based on the fact that they work with your natural hair to make it look great. I can appreciate that. But when I’ve lived with my hair for 35 years, and have never been satisfied with or successfully made it look great regardless of hair cut or product, I think I have the right to ask the person I’m paying to do my hair to blow dry it straight. Perhaps I’m too eager to please or easily chastised… either way, 75 GBP later, I walked out of there with curly hair.
*Sigh* I guess my hunt will continue…

Gone are the days of the barber shop… no really… GONE!!! Vidal sassoon has over the last 50 years revolutionised the art of hair cutting/​styling. He has created an art form a science and he is still going strong at the age of 83. He might live in LA but his brand is now spread worldwide and his legacy will no doubt live on.
The concept is so different here. You don’t walk into one of these salons and tell the stylist what you want. THEY tell YOU… what you should have. For example clippers!!! According to one of the stylist I was talking to during my last cut, everyone’s head shape is different their faces are unique. That’s a fair point right? So if you use the clippers and just follow the contours of the head depending on how your head is shaped and it won’t be perfect with no bumps let me tell you, it will look odd. What the stylist do here is recommend the right hair cut which best suits your head and face, I think this is fair point. Whether you care or not is a different matter but I still feel the argument is a compelling one. Now this almost scientific attitude towards hair styling didn’t come about over night as I mentioned Vidal has been going for over 50 years. It almost acts as an international academy now for the rest, who merely follow in their footsteps.
Ok so let us come to the issue of how much it would set you back. Cheap it is not, but needless to say the service will be impeccable and you will be in safe and expert hands. A consultation, shampoo massage, conditioner and finish will set you back around £50, however there is a 20% discount available for students as well as corporate discounts. The ideal scenario I suppose is a gift voucher which is a perfect gift or treat for a friend or other half. Must add that price tag is for a creative level 1 cutter. As you go up The ladder the price goes up. Creative director of this salon for example will charge £89. Which is less than they do in London… around £120… So Like I said just wish that someone treats you to a gift voucher or go along yourself, and be educated in the art and science of hair styling. If you want the best you gotta cough up right?
