«It’s really spicy» — shocked waiter as we order first dish. «It’s really spicy! — shocked waiter as we order further dish. «Wasn’t it very spicy?!» — shocked waiter at end of meal. Yup Sichuanese food is pretty damn spicy! We are both used to it though, and ordered my dream combination of lamb with cumin(a Hunan dish actually I guess) and«numbing» fried chicken with chilli. I also would have liked an aubergine starter but that would have been way too much food as the portions are massive and we also got some delicious water spinach with dry chilli. The food came out incredibly quickly which was a bit weird but then lamb tasted great and wasn’t at all tough so no complaints. The deep fried chicken was really tasty although be warned it is tricky to eat as it involves so many little bits of bone. I will definitely come back here to sample more options on the wide menu. They do have classic Cantonese dishes but also a great variety of offal based cuisine, as befits any decent Chinese restaurant. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. Also…one of the best restaurant websites ever — very easy just to scroll down the whole menu.

As a Chinese girl: D, I really try hard to get away from some Cantonese restaurants in China town, why? Although those chefs are actively creative in changing their ingredients, what my friends and I need is authentic taste! Believe me or not, MK is the best Szechuan and Hunan restaurant in Manchester(I was born in Chongqing, China), the Boss is same as Red Chilli, but its chef definitely masters traditional chilli cuisine, like shredded pork with vegetable and chilli, fish filets in hot chilli oil, and steamed pork with rice flour. The main course price is from £7-£12 for each dish, noodles around £5. If you would like to try different noodles style: rice noodles, one of my favourite noodles!!! Try shredded pork with pickles and vegetables, used to be my everyday essential noodles hohoho: P. If you get there, pages of menu would make you ‘ouch! decisions!’. Usually my friends and I spent 15mins or more, worth it!!! Anything added to my 1st review? Awwww… If you really like Szechuan food, I mean really~~~why not travel to Sheffield? China Red, my reason for 4 star here. I didn’t mean to break my friends’ hearts as they seem to be locked in MK everyday. Their reasons? near campus, near library, near station, or near their projects’ dead lines??? However, we all enjoy the food and service.
