Your question might be: why go to a local(Home Grown) bicycle shop? Let me share my experience as an example to the why. I am just a guy from out of the country USA(Lilburn, Georgia). I came here to Chorlton to visit my girlfriend. I went over to Ken Fosters and inquired about a bike that I could ride while here. They loaned me a Raleigh SP Race while I was here. The guys at this shop go out of there way to give the best service possible. Sean the manager(made a phone call to help me get into a race last minute), Keith Bailey(took me out on rides), Ashley the mechanic helped me with getting my fit correct. Ben helping with whatever else I needed. And Lou who let my girlfriend borrow his bike so we could make the trek over to the race at Tameside. This shop isn’t about the«numbers» they are about the experience you get, the love for cycling and the willingnes to share that with others. Please spend your money with local ownerships. Thoroughly skilled staff who can give you unbiased advice. The Range of gear here is also good enough to cover almost all circumstances you’d generally need a bike store for. Some really cool bikes too! Anyone in Chorlton with a bike should appreciate this honest to goodness bike store. I love it.

Ken Foster’s is everything you would expect of the main cycle shop in the ‘right on’ and fairly affluent suburb of Chorlton, and Cycle Logic warrants mention along with Unicorn etc as a pillar of the great, green civilisation that is Chorlton. The shop is on a Victorian front of shops at the far side of the ‘burb, with lots of shutters down on either side due to vacant premises or else restaurants and tapas bars that open in the evening. However, on a Wednesday at midday, Ken Foster’s was busy with plenty of customers, although still with a pleasantly relaxed Chorlton vibe. I haven’t bought anything from them as yet, but I would second Kirsten’s comments about the stock being more than adequate — it is all on one level, but a very deep plan store and with more bikes under cover out the front of the shop. I think they sell second-hand bikes also if you are needing a good machine for under £200. On the customer service front, I asked about detachable baskets and tag-along bike trailers. While they had a good enough selection of panniers and baskets in stock, I was impressed with how quickly staff pulled out various manufacturer catalogues with prices to give me a good look at the full range of options available. I’ve since come home and Googled ‘basil.nl’ and also ‘klickfix’ and come up with too many parameters, I guess, although with a good feeling of no stone left unturned! Also, any in-depth technical questions the sales staff was unsure of(e.g. custom brackets required for mounting baskets) he went straight to the mechanic in the back shop who had the answer. Plus, I talked with the sales staff about where each of us lived and bike routes, and he gave me free copies of the Manchester and Trafford area cycle maps produced by the city council, which I’ve found hard to get hold of elsewhere. If you live anywhere near Chorlton your cycling needs are well-covered by this place. Also, if you live a bit further afield but appreciate a more customer-facing approach you could do a lot worse than asking for Sean at Cycle Logic.

I’m a fan of all local bike stores, especially the independent ones. I have bought parts from Ken Fosters and the service was fine. When I needed repairs after a car drove into me right outside their store my bike was fixed in fairly good time, however they apparently took advantage of my concussion by telling me that I could have the cheapest part free but then keeping my salvageable parts for themselves. I should have gone back and asked about what they did with my hub when they replaced my front wheel, so I am partly to blame but I shouldn’t feel like I have to question their service. They also made a mistake when I asked if they could help me lower the gearing on my bike, replacing the sprocket for one of the exact same size. I would not warn people away from Ken Fosters as they do a good job most of the time.

When you get past the terrible pun, this is a fantastic bike shop with a range of bikes and accessories for both road bikers and mountain bikers(and hybrid bikers like myself!) I didn’t buy my bike from here, but shortly after buying my bike, I realised that I was missing an essential for any bike owner in Manchester — a decent lock. I knew that I needed a D lock and I wanted something pretty good, as I knew so many people who had had their locks cut within seconds. The guy who served me was incredibly helpful. He talked me through all of the locks that were available and advised me about the pros and cons of each one. He wasn’t at all patronising or pushy. If I were to need any further bike accessories I would not hesitate to go back to this shop. It seems like a great team of guys who work there, and they also do custom builds, maintenance and repairs.

Brilliant place to get a bike from. I recently bought my own bike from there and the help I recieved in making sure that I got the right bike for me was second to none. I have been to other places where they just want to sell you a bike, any bike, even if it’s the wrong size for you ie too small, too large. I had the choice of about 10 bikes that were the right size for me from a 14 Raleigh that they were willing to order in, up to a 15 bike that was priced at near £400. They take your old bike in part exchange and give you a fair assessment of what it’s worth. I ended up buying a DiamondBack for £160 minus a generous part-ex on my old bike. I was able to get all the accessories I needed at the same time. They have good after sales service aswell, offering a service on your new bike after the firt 2 months to make sure it’s still at it’s best.
