Yummy yummy yummy I’ve got love in my tummy, thanks to an absolutely epic takeaway from Blue Ginger. This small Manchester company has a fair few outlets in the city, and they can’t really go wrong with a Fallowfield branch now can they? Nestled amongst plentiful takeouts, this one’s for the more discerning student. You get quality, but ultimately you’re gonna pay more for it than you will for your naff kebab or burger round the corner. And rightly so, to be honest. For Blue Ginger is fresh, zingy and magnificent. Not only do you get to eat your grub out of those little cartons, so rare in the UK, but you also get piping hot, spicy, flavoursome fare. For less than thirty quid I took home what I thought would be a meal for two, but it turned out to be enough to feed an army. The bag of spicy prawn crackers was the size of a multipack of crisps, and days later I’ve still got masses of the things in a Tupperware.(Waste not want not.) You get a sweet and sour dip with those, but you should also give their flavoured chips a try — simple concept, a carton of tasty chips with a variety of sauces to choose from. The poster on the window’s adorable, just try to resist them. It’s not greasy, and it doesn’t contain MSG. Winner! The portions are so generous you’ll have countless leftovers for the next day, and they were fine with my request to combine tofu and mixed veg for my Szechuan sauce(they’re separate items on the menu), plus the beau’s beef chow mein disappeared faster than I could set my own carton down. Even the non-king prawns are gargantuan. I’ll most certainly be back to Blue Ginger for more lazy food — I’ve got my eye on the Satay sauce next time. Nom indeed.

Another branch of the quickly expanding Blue Ginger brand, this time located in Fallowfield for the lucky locals and students to enjoy. I love everything about this takeaway bar. The concept is so fresh and forwarding-thinking, even the menu has been stamped on perspex and then mounted to the wall. They also make sure you know that their food contains no MSG, something they proudly display in the window. You’re likely to pay more than your average Chinese or Thai takeaway here, but if you’re looking for quality then I suggest you give it a try. Delivery is prompt, the packaging is unique and the portions are generous. My favourite has to be the crispy shredded chilli beef for £6.70. Ordering is easy, just a few clicks on their website, and i believe you can also order alcohol. Brilliant.
