This has got all the things a good country pub should have — friendly locals, real ales, and heart warming meals, amongst many other delights to be found at the Miners Rest. They even manage to to get a view of some nice countryside whilst only being a half hour walk from Clifton. Perfect for those of that aspire to be the sort of people that go on long walks to country pubs but don’t quite have the time/inclination. Cosy and localish, this is a typical country pub, well worth a visit to get away from the stresses and strains of Bristol.

Situated on the top of a hill in the village of Long Ashton, which is surrounded by rolling hills and the beautiful countryside of outer Bristol(it takes less than 10 minutes to get here, but you can feel a million miles away from Bristol), the Miner’s Rest is a good little find. It’s a traditional pub to its core, with a good selection of local ales at excellent prices. It’s got low, wooden beamed ceilings and open fires and just the kind of pub you can expect a resident dog to stroll around and gain affection from the ale supping clients. The last time I came here it was on decidedly wintery night, and the pub did just the trick for an evening tipple in its cosy, warm atmosphere. They’ve got a few seats outside as well, so when the weather is good you can admire the view of the local rolling hills and countryside, and watch the sunset over the distant hills…(that is, whilst the planes land at Bristol Airport on top of the hill on the other side of the valley). A really good local pub.

Great little pub with good ales and food. Views across the valley.
