We were travelling in London through a travel agency that booked us to stay here. It was terrible. Our room looked NOTHING like any of the pictures. Our shower only had hot water so we took scalding hot showers and the room smelled like a toilet. We figured out that if we kept the toilet lid shut, it reduced the smell. On Friday and Saturday nights the William IV is also a club and so there will be loud music blasting until 2 or 3am. It is also very far from central London. You’ll be about a 30 – 45 minute bus or tube ride from any of the main attractions. Avoid at all costs.

Huge pub. Lots of areas to chill in(or hire if you have a group, as I later learned). The staff are great, they’re really friendly even if you do have to remind them to take your order sometimes. I like that because they’re not always pushing you and upselling you. There are guest rooms too, I took a look at them and they’re really nicely done, in fact the old function room upstairs has been converted into bedrooms. The prices are good and it’s an excellent start to a night if you’re local the weekends also go off, occasionally with big name DJ’s and pretty cool events. Last Notting Hill Carnival there was amazing.

My boyfriend’s mother celebrated her 70th birthday here. She picked this pub because it has moderate prices –though one day before the party they changed the price and menus– and because it has a hotel. I have to admit, the place was pretty cute with the decorations and everything but I’ve seen better. The garden is big with loads of chairs and sofas, which is a plus in my book because I am a smoker. The inside is simple and I would say they are aiming for the shabby chic style. The cold buffet they served was nice, though I didn’t try much. I heard the caramelised onion tarts were tasty and the sandwiches. What I absolutely didn’t like was the toilets. Two incredibly small stalls for the ladies. You literately had to squeeze yourself in to have a pee. Another thing was the sink! It was too small– like doll sized sinks. Thus you have to be very careful when you turn on the water because you might get splashed and come out looking like you’ve just peed yourself. The bartenders were, I wound say, bored with life, with serving people etc so when I asked for a glass of water for my boy, they actually sent me in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the kitchen to get it myself. I thought drinks were served at the bar… apparently not. Nevertheless, after this incident I bought a big bottle of water to have it close by so I wouldn’t have to travel again to a different galaxy for a glass of water. The closing was very rowdy. The bodyguards or whatever they were, were incredibly rude and pushy. We knew it was closing time, but please, let me pick up my sleeping child and get my bag… So yeah… Not many nice things to say about this place. I don’t recommend it if you want to throw a party or something similar. But on a normal day, it might be fun, who knows.

The William has kind of a strange layout in my opinion, but I like it! It’s got a crackin’ garden — very quaint and comfortable. Lots of seats out front too. Yummy food. Nice staff. Reasonably priced drinks. Wicked music. Not quite 5 stars in my book, and I wouldn’t want to spend the whole night here — but definitely a stellar pub, and very near to both The Regent and The Mason’s Arms if you feel like a little pub crawl…

Friend calls up… Sandy, feel like a drink? But I don’t feel like driving, so lets do something local. Humnnn. Something I haven’t done lately is local. So William the Fourth, or William IV as it is now known came to my mind. A place that is walking distance from me, though one I haven’t been for over a decade. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a great so called Gastro pub. Décor is a little rough around the edges but on a trendy side. It has a small beer garden that we weren’t able to use due to our British Summer. And being nosey that I am, it has a great restaurant adjoining garden that I will have to visit next time round. Now all I have to find is an opportunity. Wine list is extensive with some great choices. We ordered a bottle of South African Cabernet Sauvignon. What I was surprised with was great Tapas menu this place has. We ordered some Spinach and cream cheese parcels, Pan fried char grilled artichoke hearts, pan fried Portobello mushrooms with red pepper, roasted red chilli & butter sauce. I was having a drink with a vegetarian friend of mine. We weren’t disappointed. Tapas were scrumptious. Place definitely worth a visit or few. It gets fairly busy weekend evenings so get there early.

We’ve had our work Christmas party here for the last few years. The pub has a great atmosphere, with several different areas to sit in and a lovely beer garden out the back. I agree with other reviewers — this is a great place for a pint or a G&T and a chinwag with some mates. It’s not that good a place for food. Besides the Christmas party I’ve eaten four times here and for three of them we had to wait aaaagggges for our orders to arrive, when it wasn’t even busy! The food isn’t exactly worth the wait or the money charged for it, but it must be OK if I keep coming back!

Not only has William IV become über cool, but it attracts the odd celeb who resides in the area. We’ve actually been there a few times, as quite a large group, and they’ve always accomodated our requests quite well. The food is quite good here, so you do have to try a snack or two along with your pint.

This large pub on Harrow Road has over the years gained a good reputation. They serve tapas throughout the week which is quite a strange combination I think for a pub, but hey ho, it is lovely but the time we went there it took forever to even be served, it was quite expensive, and they got our bill wrong at the end of the night. However, just for drinks this is a great pub, with a lively atmosphere on weekend nights. If you do want to eat, the roast is good on Sundays, although again quite pricey. This pub is good for Notting Hill Carnival, close enough to the action to wander down Ladbroke Grove, yet far enough to make sure you can retreat from the crowds for a pint while still being in ‘carnival’ territory and feeling the atmosphere.
