Great Greek food. We had the loveliest meal served by quite possibly the politest and gentlest staff. We ate the sardines, sea bass, the most incredible mushrooms and vegetarian moussaka. Could not fault a thing.

I really like Greek food, so I was excited to see this family run place with such good reviews… We ordered several small dishes to make our own mini meze, along with some grilled fish of the day. The fish was really nice… it seemed like Greek home cooking, and was a pleasure to eat. The hummus was pretty yummy too. However the fried things(whitebait and calamari) were so greasy that we couldn’t finish them… I asked for them to be wrapped up for my cat, but even after I’d peeled off the batter, he wouldn’t eat them(!) I don’t think the calamari was fresh at all. *sigh* Looking at the other reviews, I assume they can do better… just avoid their fried dishes.

«Humility is a beautiful thing»…* Indeed it is and I couldn’t have been more humbly impressed with the food and service provided by the mannerly Vasis proprietors. This family-run Greek restaurant is a delightful Fitzrovian institution offering staple home-cooked dishes and a cosy dining atmosphere. Favourites such as shashlik, souvlaki, moussaka, dolmades and stifado adorn the à la carte menu, sternly challenging the decision to opt for the fresh catch of the day(grilled and de-boned sea bass, sea bream, salmon…). Complimentary pickled chillies, carrots, pitta bread and potatoes generously furnish the table in addition to the munificent entrée portions supplied. Fresh mint tea proffers an idoneous detoxing culmination to a plentiful meal, and is highly recommended. _ *stolen from my date of the night. I can’t always be the original quote purveyor, though I shall be the implementor.

After a drink at nearby Jetlag bar, a friend and I decided we needed a quieter place to eat. A quick glimpse at the menu told me all I needed to know — Lamb Kleftico in the House! I love Greek food and this was no exception — a mixed meza plate of bread and 3 types of homemade dips(hummus, tzatiki and tarramousalata) were light and delicious. We’d been brought some olives and pickled chillies first — nothing to write home about there, but my oh my, the main course was lovely! I had the lamb kleftico — slow-cooked lamb that is so succulent it falls off the shank(NOT cheaper shoulder cut) like butter. Sides of rice or potatoes were a nice non-overwhelming accompaniment. Mains were around £10 — £12 which wasn’t too bad but sides etc push the bill up. The house wine was actually really lovely(I was expecting retsina-esque sharpness) so we had a bottle of red to boot. All in all, for our shared starters and mains and drinks it came to £49.00 or so, not super-cheap but decent quality food and friendly service that makes it worth the money.

A friend found this place on his quick break before his gig at a pub near-by and so a group of us descended on to it one Wednesday evening. No mistaking about this place being a Greek Restaurant with it’s two big white pillars and tasteful pink neon light outside, the inside had a warm, small, family run business feel about it. While we were playing ‘Celeb’ spotting on an adjacent wall that’s covered in signed photos of the famous and near famous when the complimentary olives were brought to our table. Didn’t really get a chance to see the wine list as there were a bottle of house red on the table already and the group quickly agreed to tackle that one first, followed by some ‘Keo’ lagers. We all tried something different from the special board for our starters and mains, fish and shellfish dishes being the dominant in numbers. Garlic Med Prawns followed by Shank of Lamb was my choice and both dishes were lovely, the Shank of Lamb I would recommend. Everyone in the group really enjoyed their choices of starters and main courses, not one bad comment from anyone. As with Greek traditional dishes expect a lot of meat with a small amount of veg/salad. About half of us tackled the dessert menu, all made by the owner’s wife fresh each day —(up to you if you want to believe that but we found the desserts to be as enjoyable as the rest of the meal). Wonderful food, good & very friendly service plus a couple of glasses of wine each and some beers on top of that all for £26 each. 5 star from us both, a wonderful mid-week restaurant. Head for the Post Office Tower(BT Tower), near a pub that looks like a toilet.
