The Swan

I stayed in London for a week and almost every night at The Swan. Single woman traveling alone, they made me feel so safe and welcome. Their food is awesome and the outdoor seating is a great place to watch a game. What a wonderful neighborhood gem!

We made a quick stop in London and ended up here twice. The Fish and Chips were great! Beer was delicious and the service was good. We had the lasagna too which wasn’t our favorite thing. I’d avoid that. They also had a band one night and the games were on the TV. What more could you ask for?

Food: We shared the fish and chips. The fish had a very good batter on it with seasoning. It was also lighter than it looked. The chips were really good as well. I liked the seasoning on them. We didn’t really get into the peas but that is a matter of personal preference. The vinegar was also more in line with what we are used to being malt vinegar. Good selection of beer as well.
Service: The staff was friendly and the food came out in a timely manner.
Overall: We would definitely go back to this place for the fish and chips and beer. It has a nice cozy atmosphere as well to just sit back and have a beer.

My partner and I dined here while on vacation in London.
Our guide recommended this place because of the history of the place and proximity to our Thistle Hotel on Bayswater.
Pros– very nice upscale area. The pub is well kept and nice exterior and interior. We dined on a Monday evening and the place was packed. We lucked into a table for two which I held while my partner ordered our meal and drinks. Menu selection is good with a nice choice of meat, seafood and vegetarian items. Service was prompt and good. Fish and chips were hot and delicious. My partners burger and fries were also delicious. Wine and beer were very good and prices were reasonable for the area.
Cons– popular place and can be difficult to grab a table. The front porch was full of smokers and the wave of smoke was truly incredible to pass through in order to enter the place.
Overall, we really liked the place and would dine here again!

Lovely place to watch the world go by — with outdoor seating and an upstairs balcony.
Roomy inside with friendly staff. Menu looks good and the food that I’ve seen looks well prepared.
Definitely going to become my go to place when the inevitable train delays occur at Paddington.

You have to order at the bar but the beer’s good and they had the best wings! We also had a meat pie that was tasty. Solid food offerings and good beer. Not cheap, but nothing in London really is.

Relatively decent pub/​bar restaurant. Ordered fish and chips of course and local beer from the Fuller’s brewery, a flat lager that was actually not bad. The fish and chips was good, really large portions, good tarter sauce, friendly atmosphere and directly across from the famous Hyde Park. Would recommend this place if your near by.

Great night spot. Got the fish and chips. They were everything I’ve been craving since we got to London. Good selection of beers and we enjoyed quite a few. Sat outside in front. Met some great people and had a wonderful evening. A must on any visit to London from now on.

Super nett, voll, gemütlich, Riesen-​Portionen zum Essen. Küche bis 22:00(!). Bier ist eben englisch.

Very good english pubs. An amount of beers choice. We loves the ale ones (nicholsons, london pride, etc.) Fish and chips were realmy great too

I walked in and the place looks like any other nice traditional English pub. Apparently the menu and food are pretty good here, but I didn’t eat. I just stopped in for a quick pint while waiting for a friend to arrive at nearby Lancaster Gate station. The staff are friendly enough and the place is very clean. I was in and out but I would recommend it.

Really nice pub. Whether you are sitting outside or in, the atmosphere is amazing. Hyde Park is on the other side of the street and the greenery offers a relaxing view. There’s also live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, which makes the experience ever more enjoyable.

Der Laden brummt am Abend! Oftmals ist auf den Bänken (ohne Rückenlehne) draußen vor dem Pub kein Sitzplatz mehr zu finden. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite ist der Hyde Park.

Just an ok bar near to Hyde Park and Bayswater with a good balcony overlooking Hyde Park upstairs and quite a large terrace on the front, but it’s a bit expensive at £4.60 a pint!!! Its a traditional english pub and not at all trendy and it does look a bit tired and worn, Most staff being friendly. I don’t think we will go back due to the price of the beer though!

The Swan was recommended as «good pub food» and I was not disappointed. I had the steak pie and would definitely come back and order it again.

Pub vraiment typique. Cadre très joli. Nous avons seulement pris une bière, au demeurant très fraîche, mais les plats avaient l’air délicieux. Accueil super sympa jusqu’à l’arrivée d’un homme avec un badge, qui nous a retiré nos verres vides, de l’air de dire qu’il nous fallait partir puisque nous né prenions rien d’autre ! Nous n’avons pas bien compris, mais nous sommes partis quand même. Il est ressorti quelques minutes après nous, aussi bizarrement qu’il était entré !
On essaiera tout de même d’y retourner lors de notre prochain passage à Londres.

A decent pub located directly on the Bayswater Road, very near to Lancaster Gate Tube Station, and right across from Hyde Park. The beer range is limited to Fuller’s but that’s not an entirely bad thing. A nice, traditional spot to drink some London-​made cask ales. A place to visit out of convenience, not a place to make an effort visiting.

Good, solid English pub. Order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and funny, and the food was quite correct. It’s a pub, not a gastro-​pub, and that’s what you get: spot on British fare from fried whitebait (tasty starter!) to chicken and mushroom pies with mashed potatoes, gravy, and overcooked carrots. We needed a quick lunch on a cold afternoon – after an overnight, transatlantic flight – and the Swan it the spot. The daily special salad was crayfish and avocado, and came with boiled potatoes, arugula, and lemon and was light, fresh, and filling. Also generous glass pours of wine at very reasonable rates. I recommend the South African Chenin Blanc.
I’d go back, which says enough in and of itself. Or so I’d like to think.

£9 for a measly few nachos and it took a considerable time for someone, anyone to bring me my beer.
The barman assumed that, since I said I was from California, I would prefer a lighter, bubblier beer. Wrong, sir. (Certainly, if anyone appreciates a good IPA, it’s a Californian. Not that I am one, being from New York.) When the beer I did order remained to be seen, even after my wife had gone through half of hers, our sad nachos arrived. I queried the server about my beer and was told shortly that she only dealt with the food and I’d have to hail the barman to deal with it. Certainly, after I did as such, the beer arrived quickly. But the weak nachos and the poor service, not to mention the odd assortment of covers being played curiously by the house band, caused me to finish up quickly and head off before more damage could be done.

Find a seat, go order at the bar, and they will bring it out to you. Excellent yorkshire pudding and fish/​chips. Deserts including the spotted dick are excellent. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Go upstairs if its full down below. Several beers on tap. Selection of whiskeys and ports is small though.

After a long walk on Oxford Street, the bf and I were ready for a nice pint of Guiness.
I had a poor man’s Black Velvet and he had the Guiness and Black. Drinks were poured perfectly.
As for the pub, there are tables outside and a few sitting areas on the first floor. Upstairs has more seating. The décor is nice and it is not too dark inside.
I hope to come back to review the food.
The Swan also does live music on the weekends.

This review is based on a visit in late September 2011 — better late than never, I suppose!
My friend and I had our first London dinner here, as it was right down the street from our hotel, and we enjoyed it. For those used to American table service, it is a pub and leans a little more toward being a counter service type of establishment… order and pay at the bar, and your food is delivered to you.
We ordered potato wedges to share, my friend had the fish and chips, and I had the steak and ale pie. My friend also ordered an ale, and I think I ordered a glass of wine (since I’m not much of a beer drinker — I know, that’s quite a shame whilst in London!). I would skip the potato wedges the next time, it wasn’t really my cup of tea. It also came at the same time as our entrees, which were more than adequate.
My friend enjoyed her fish and chips, which was basically a whole fish (or maybe half a fish). Definitely NOT the kinds of fish strips or mini-​fish fillets we are used to here in the U.S. My steak and ale pie was delish as well, served with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. This made for a wonderful first dinner in a London pub atmosphere!

a great letting off. If it is nice weather, one can sit outdoors with look at the Hydepark. Food is good and there are many things.
If one sits inside it can become a little narrow.

Ein sehr schönes Pub und einen Besuch wert. Vorallem am Wochenende, denn dann gibt es hier Livemusik und die Stimmung und Atmosphäre ist wirklich schön um einen Tag ausklingen zu lassen.
Wir hatten nur eine kleine Portion Nachos. Preis-​Leistung hat hier für London wirklich gepasst und geschmacklich halt wie mit Käse überbackene Nachos mit den üblichen Soßen schmecken ;)

Super gemütlich, nette Bedienungen, immer was los und das Essen ist super lecker!!!

Hat uns hervorragend gefallen! Preise für Londoner Verhältnisse völlig okay, gute Getränke– und Speisenauswahl. Zum Essen gab es einen Cesars Salad und einen Burger. Beides qualitativ und quantitativ sehr gut. Bedienungen waren gut, freundlich und aufmerksam. Der Pub war übrigens früher kein Gefängnis. Auf dem Weg zur Hinrichtung wurde den Verurteilten hier ihr letzes Bier gereicht one for the road he’s on the wagon.

fast immer liegt unser Hotel in London so, dass wir die U-​bahnstation Lancaster gate nutzen. Dann ist ein besuch im Swan, der auf dem Heimweg liegt obligatorisch. Der Inhaber ist Italiäner und versprüht einen eigenen Charme.
Fish und Chips sind hier ausgezeichnet. Es ist hier fast immer sehr voll und es macht Spaß die Besucher zu beobachten.

Einmal Fish and Chips sollten es denn doch in London sein und da sind wir hier im Swan gewesen. Da es ganz in der Nähe unserer Unterkunft war, naheliegende.
Das Pub ist sehr gemütlich, war ursrpünglich ein Gefängnis — lang, lang ist’s her.
Hier läuft es so ab: Platz suchen, Auswahl treffen und dann an die Bar gehen zu bestellen und zahlne, Speisen werden dann serviert.
Vielleicht war’s nur Pech, aber wenn ich in London bin und hinter der Bar steht eine Spanierin/​Italienerin??, die so schlecht Englisch spricht und versteht, dass sie permanent jemanden zur Hilfe holen muss, mit der Kasse nicht umgehen kann und auch sonst überfordert ist, dann ist das nicht unbedingt eine Empfehlung.
Jedenfalls, Sohnemann war von den Fish and Chips begeistert, ich muss es nicht nochmal haben. Die Qualität war allerdings o.K., leider war nichts gewürzt, deshalb hat es ziemlich fad und nur fettig geschmeckt. Das Pub gehört sicher auch zu den teureren. Und dafür hat die Leistung nicht gepasst.

Hat mir gut gefallen! Sehr gemütliche Atmosphäre, nette Leute, und Guinness vom Fass, so hab ich mir das vorgestellt. Essen kann man hier scheinbar auch, was ich gesehen habe sah zumindest mal wirklich gut aus, typisch deftige englische Mahlzeiten. Vielleicht beim nächsten Mal
