Familiär. Man kennt recht bald die anderen Gäste. Lecker Sandwiches bis 21:00. manchmal auch später. Um 22:15 klingelt die Glocke«last order»

I was traveling recently with my girlfriend recently, and we had a long layover at Heathrow so we decided to take the London Express to stretch our legs. After running around town to explore for a few hours, we looked for pubs nearby Paddington Station and decided in the Cleveland Arms because it was nearby. We couldn’t have picked a better spot! The bartender was friendly and accommodating to our ignorance of British beer styles and pub culture. He even poured an extra pint for each of us. From our short time there, you could tell he knew everyone well, and this was a local favorite. Three cheers for the Cleveland Arms! If we are ever in London, we will definitely stop by again.

The Cleveland Arms is under new management. The pool table, darts board, and quirky details have been removed, and the interior has been covered in a steely blue emulsion. It’s a rather soulless environment, but it’s still a very attractive mid Victorian pub in Paddington. IPA is reasonable, but the other beers on tap are pricey. Also to be charged one pound –fifty for a lime and soda is pushing it. The attractive young staff are inexperienced, and seem to change on a weekly basis. The food on offer is OK if you are prepared to pay a tenner for a plate of charcuterie or smoked salmon. It makes a change from microwaved curries, which was the fare before. Gentrification has it’s pluses and minuses, and who knows what the present management has in mind? However be aware that you are paying West End prices for what is basically a back street boozer by Paddington Station, and if you want somewhere a bit more lively and convivial I suggest that you go elsewhere. It has a rather more austere quality about it nowadays.

Obviously changed hands as it isn’t the local haunt I was expecting. No pool table as indicated in the photo but a decent enough place to meet friends. Not bad price wise as two tonics and a pint of real ale was £6.80. Would come again with friends

Thank goodness this place has changed hands. It has turned into a relaxed, convivial bar with limited but really high quality food ranging from the simple but delicious smoked almonds to platters of smoked meats, cheese and delicious breads, as well as open sarnies: my favourite is with avocado mash, soft boiled egg and chilli miso dressing — Yum! They also do simple delicious breakfasts including fruit and yoghurt in various forms, as well as the more Indulgent croissants and pain au chocolat. Q

Nice quiet authentic local pub. Had a nice cheese and bread lunch. Bar tenders were very social able — greeted me like a local, took my order and checked up on me once in a while while I worked on my laptop. I can definitely seeing this as my local the next time I am back in London.

Garbage. Don’t waste your time if you are not a local looking for some decent pub grub and a good ale. If you are from out if town don’t expect to eat or drink. They don’t want your business and would prefer you stay away. Not once were we greeted not did anyone acknowledge that we were there and wanted to place an order. We walked out and took our money else where. Clearly business is too good to get any more. This place is garbage.

Quiet little pub but very social. Feel like I’ve stepped back in time to a social club. Good cheap ales on tap. Darts, pool and games at the bar. Nuts and cushions at every table. Comfy I say!

I like the atmosphere and craft beer selection at this pub. The bartender was quite nice and allowed us to try all of the beers that they had in the cask. Since this was my first pub since moving to the UK — I definitely got off to a good start! The prices are about the same as any other London pub. The food selection is decent — we had a meat dish that seemed to be somewhat like canned chili, and a curry. The curry was definitely the tastier dish. Overall good experience and nice place to get some grub and beers in London.

Officially annointed as our local. Nothing fancy, but a great low-key place… pool, darts, beer, trivia, plenty of regulars, you get the picture I think. Not especially crowded, especially early in the week. Music selection is stuck in about 1996 as far as I can work out, which is alright by me! Haven’t tried the food, so can’t comment on that…

This place was awesome! Right around the corner from where we stayed(Grand Park Hotel), cheap beer and entertaining people made the pub !! I remember this one really really drunk, belligerent old man trying to hit on this one lady which happened to bring two of her daughters which possibly were 18 – 20 year olds(18 years of age is the drinking limit but you can be 16 and drink as long as you’re with an adult and having dinner). One of the 18 year olds was hitting on the bartender which told her to leave him a lone and that she was ‘poison’. Cool Juke box music with ’90’s british alt-rock music!(Chemical Bros, Bush, Arctic Monkeys) Man what a place :)

My neighbourhood spot. An awesome pub, very dynamic. Dimly lighted with a large front area, along with games(darts, snooker, board games…) in the back. The music is the best I have heard in London, ranging from classic punk rock to motown to country western. The beer selection is decent: four real ale pumps, along with a bevy of macro lagers and ciders. Prices are decent. During my last few visits(and right now) I’ve been ordering the BrewDog Edge. Clientele is diverse. They have free bar snacks. There are two TVs, although they aren’t on unless there is something important to watch. Very unassuming. Love this place.

A very traditional(and well preserved) pub dating from 1852, and named after William Vane, first Duke of Cleveland. Built in front of a long mews, its original clientèle would have consisted primarily of the stable lads and servants of the grand houses around. It has a very handsome façade of yellow brick with stucco dressings, with classical detailing. To the right is a carriageway giving access to the mews behind. Look out also for the original decorative tiling in the entrance porches at either end of the frontage. The building is — unsurprisingly — listed at Grade II. Inside, the high ceilings draw away from the fact that this is a relatively small pub; at the rear is an even smaller room with a pool table and darts. The décor is an odd mix of prints, cartoons, and the odd bit of transport memorabilia(it’s close to Paddington). It attracts a loyal, mainly local and down to earth following, plus the odd tourist and commuter. On our visit rock music was belting out from the sound system, but wasn’t too intrusive in the rear. They serve real ales and are featured in the current(2010) Good Beer Guide.

Ok. Walked in the pub and smelled curries. Good sign, right? Ordered Thai shrimp, butter chicken, and another curry dish. We were sipping our beers when my son asked for a coke. Walked up and saw the bartender opening foil packets that contained our food. Basically, he heated up these foil packets in the microwave, poured them on a plate, and served them to us. GROSS! Never again
