If you’re at the O2 waiting for the doors to open for an event, the Slug and Lettuce isn’t a bad place to stop for a drink. It gets really busy so you might not get a table unless you’re there early but there’s a few places you can put your drink down and stand at or lean on. There is an upstairs but it was closed off when we went so I guess they only open it when there’s a really big event on. The drinks are standard for what you’d expect in terms of price, selection and quality. The food menu looked good, although all a bit beige, but really decent portion sizes. On Mondays they have 50% off food which would make it really reasonable. I’d visit again and maybe try the food if I was there on a Monday and early enough to get somewhere to sit. The sharing platters looked especially great.

Sunday night, World Cup, pub. Sounds like a good cocktail of requirements, but one which someone didnt quite work. All three ingredients were there but one important one was missing: atmosphere. There was a(as in, one) TV down the end of the bar and since no one else seemed to be at all bothered, my mates and I nabbed it to watch Mexico lose to Holland(boo). The service was good, and this could be because the bar is quite long, and they have a decent selection of beers on tap. I will probably come here again if Im in the o2(post cinema beer), but the new All Bar One opens soon and generic chain bars are interchangeable so it’d be a case of which is less rammed.

Food was really nice exceeds expectations. Only the service is a tad slow and a bit a-mature.

If you want to see a cocktail made properly at the O2, go to the Slug and Lettuce. The bar staff are quick and efficient, they taste the drink as they’re making it to make sure it’s right and they focus entirely on it until it’s done. I can’t tell you how much of a novelty this was after the chaos of T.G.I’s round the corner. The reason it only gets three stars was the unceremonious way we were told it was shutting. At 11:45pm with a closing time of midnight, they whacked the lights up to full brightness and turned the music off. What a shock to the system that was after several cocktails under my belt and safely ensconced in a booth! Despite the fact they were still serving drinks at the bar, the atmosphere turned pretty unwelcoming and we left as soon as we could. Bit of an uncomfortable end to what was a pretty good evening really.
