We stopped in here for a pint and quick bite to eat. We’ve been to other Wetherspoon pubs, and they’ve all been generally fine. They tend to have a daily special which is usually a fairly decent value, but I was informed a pint was not included in this location’s fish and chips deal. * Shrug * ok, I can live with that. Given the pub’s proximity to some of the most popular sights, it’s understandably tough to find anything reasonably priced. That said, while the beer selection was fine, the fish was rather disappointing. I love me some fish and chips, but the fish really seemed no better than frozen, battered fish sticks/filets you’d find in your supermarket’s frozen section. The portions were very small, as well. If I need a quick pint in the future, I wouldn’t mind stopping in here. Were I on the hunt for food, I’d look somewhere else.

I had no idea that every time I walked down Whitehall from Trafalgar Square that I’d be passing this Spoons. Also, love the name. Typical Wetherspoons cheap food and booze with a decent selection. The bathrooms are spotless and the Christmas decorations were a nice touch. With high ceilings, long windows, and retro carpeting, this link of the chain was not too bad at all. Plus, Wetherspoons will always deliver what you expect. My Gourmet Burger was fine, a bit sloppily put together. The staff was nice and even walked around to ask how our food was? Never had that happen in a Spoons. Bravo. I would have given this a 4 star rating but the location means its rammed at mealtimes(and outside of them as well because we got there around 3:30pm). it was meant to be a 25 minute wait for food but probably was closer to 15 minutes. Also, it is very open plan here which means it’s quite noisy. Bit of a rowdy(albeit fun) clientele as well!

When I saw the«£7.99 fish and chips» on my first night in London, I could not resist but to go in my first British pub with my friends. Surprisingly, the pub was spacious and even had a nice retro décor with a cool vibe! The beer selection was decent, but the fish and chips simply did not disappoint! The cod was nicely fried, and the fries was better than the US’s version because it is more starchy and had more dimension to its texture. I guess I see why fish and chips is such a big deal in UK! Anyway, this pub is really close to Trafalgar Square and its spaciousness makes it perfect to meet your friends for a British pub night out!

Nice airy pub. Somewhat jammed today with the Rugby World Cup on. Very friendly staff, good food, handy to Trafalgar Square. Been here on several trips and always satisfied with all aspects. We’ll be back again.

The Lord Moon of the Mall is a superior J.D. Wetherspoon pub in the centre of London, just south of Trafalgar Square. It is the classiest of the three JDW joints in that area(another is on Leicester Square, and one on Charing Cross Road) that I know — which isn’t saying all that much. But the décor is pleasant enough, especially at the rear of the pub, and the ceilings are high. JDW guarantees competitive prices on beer and food — but London being London, you can just about add UKP1 to the JDW prices that you know from smaller cities in the UK per pint, or per meal. Of course, they offer the usual«clubs» — which means that certain kinds of dishes, like steaks, Indian food, chicken or «Sunday roasts», will be even cheaper on certain days. Almost every day is some kind of «club» day now. The real ale selection isn’t quite as large as that at some other JDW pubs(like my favorite, The King and Castle in Windsor — which taught me a lot about real ale back in the day!), but decent, and the beers are generally well-kept. The food is streamlined, of course, the differences between JDW spots are minor indeed. This time, I had a «large breakfast»(which includes two sausages, two strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, four half slices of toast with butter, the(in)famous red, sweet beans, half a tomato, a big mushroom and three hash browns(these are«Rösti» to the Germans and the Swiss). All in all, terrific value for UKP5.49 — for London anyway. To which I added what I consider their finest«house» beer, Devil’s Backbone American IPA. You can get that at any Spoon I know. Another time I opted for the 14 oz Angus Steak with chips and dips. Nice, too. This place gets *verrrrryyyyy* busy at lunch time and in the late afternoon — when the offices in the surrounding Westminster area close. But you should be able to find a couple of seats if you’re patient enough. Spoon being Spoon, there’s no music playing. But when it gets busy, it gets loud, too.

This giant pub lacks the cozy feel commonly associated with an English pub, but sometimes that’s a good thing. The Lord Moon of Mall has a ton of tables, matched with a better than average beer selection(with great prices), and a bar staffed with no fewer than four bartenders. We did not eat here, so I cannot comment with regards to that, but from those around me I could tell that the menu was diverse and intriguing. Finally, these are the best pub restrooms I’ve seen so far on my now 26-pub-tour!

This place was situated on the run up to Whitehall, I will admit as mentioned here by a few of the members plenty of seating area within the pub itself, decked up with the old tradition bar cellar look with a tad of modern splash to the décor, I was disappointed by the fact unlike normal Wetherspoons promotions a drink is normally provided with the meal, in this place it’s only available on some menu choices obviously with that fact, it bumped up the price on your tab. If your having a little to eat, and also again no tradition joints of Steaks served at this pub, which is a bummer!!! =o(the atmosphere seemed lively and fun enough with a mixed crowd in, will say that men’s toilet or the corridor area smelt like old musty cellar and that looked it was stemmed with history to it and I found that area a very eerie place! Is it haunted? I wonder!

Cute Pub. Got slot machines, and plenty of seating to accommodate the tourists. Lots of beer on tap but nothing really exotic.

Monopoly Pub Crawl — Stop #14 — Whitehall(Pink) The second pink in a row as we worked on collecting this color group in quick fashion and the Lord Moon of the Mall was our stop. What a cool name for a pub! Unlike our previous two stops, this place is massive with enough space for many times our number. This was also the first place where Nava complained that she was getting full from all the lager and ale choices so the natural solution was to turn to shots. And when you are going to take shots on a crawl, it’s got to be tequila. We got to the bar and ordered a couple of shots only to see the girl ahead of us had ordered four of them. Thinking we had a kindred spirit, we toasted and took our shot. I was fully expecting the guys around her to take the rest but it turns out she didn’t know them and proceeded to knock back all four one after another. Now that’s a woman! The pub is a proper rowdy place with clientele ranging from early 20s looking to get smashed to 30 somethings knocking back cocktails while«catching-up» to your older couples just having dinner after a day in the city. This was a great stop to get some random signatures on the board and advertise the crawl(I really should get paid for this!). After a bit of chat and rotating the group through the bathrooms, it was time to be off! This is also a good spot to get some water in you and when leaving there is a McD’s across the street if you need a quick bite — no time to get real food at the pub!

So you HAVE to eat fish ‘n chips in London. We saw this place after our London Bus Tour and were debating whether to go here or across the street to a more expensive pub. We decided on the less expensive route. The atmosphere is tourist friendly. You sit at any table, note the table #, and when you’re ready to order you go up to the bar and pay. My friend and I both ordered fish ‘n chips of course and I also ordered a Stella beer. The foam was flowing out and over my hands, which it should! The F&C were £5.99 which is a good deal. It is battered cod that comes with peas(mushy or not). I should have tried the mushy peas so I could say I did, but I don’t love peas to begin with, so mashing them up like baby food would not help me. At least in the states, I am so used to a crispy batter on F&C, this batter really threw me off. It was slightly soggy, pale, albeit nicely flavored. I just need a crispy batter. The chips were stocky and warm, and the peas were. peas. But for the price, and atmosphere, I would say it’s alright. But I will definitely try a pub next time around!

This place was«meh». I got the burger + beer combo for 5 or 6 pounds. They have a decent selection of beers on tap, which was a plus, but my burger was awful. My friend got their Sunday special for 2 pounds and seemed to enjoy it. There’s lots of seating here(like it’s been mentioned).

Worst food ever! Mushy fries, so-so fish and chips and nasty«ploughman’s» with one slice of cheese on the whole sandwich with a huge glop of chutney. Yuck! One gal at the bar was nice and the waiter was pleasant. Go for a beer and nothing else!

A-OK place, though seemed pretty touristy(well duh, it’s just off Trafalgar Square). Sausage and mash(when did it stop being bangers and mash?) was pretty good, including the mashed peas. Definitely looked like the best place between Big Ben and Trafalgar Square, and I went inside a couple other places before fleeing to LMoM. A couple blocks away you have the Porterhouse Brewery though, and their beer selection is much better(though I didn’t eat any food there so can’t comment on that). I’d eat and drink here again.

Big bar with plenty of seating. The beer selection was formidable and the food prices Among the more reasonable in the area. A great place to go if your on holiday like ourselves, and looking for a casual place to get a beer and free wifi so you can write up a review like this one while you’re waiting for your order. :) I had the Superfood Salad with Chicken, and it was a great alternative to higher calorie pub food on the menu. It’s within walking distance to Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Trafalgar Square.

Been here on many occasions and great for a cheap pint in the heart of London with lots of good beer on offer. If you want food though avoid, its cheap but there is a reason for that. Service is very slow, 6 out of 8 of us had finished our meal before other 2 meals arrived & standard is hit & miss. Location great though.

Good pub food, probably the best in the Trafalgar square area. Surprising to find something so cheap in an area thats so touristy. Get the burger and beer special(strongbow’s preferred) for six quid.

Ok, I was just a lowly tourist, Rick Steves book in hand. Add to this that I have spent most of my drinking life paying $ 6−8÷14 oz pint in NY City, and maybe you jaded Londoners will understand why I love this place. I had a terrific seasonal, local beer for £3! They even had crappy(for the UK) beer for £1.88! I know this is owned and operated by Wetherspoon’s(Americans, that’s like TGI Fridays of pubs… maybe worse?) who is pretty much destroying pub culture. But my goodness – the beer is so cheap, there are so many varieties, and drinking in an old Barclay’s is pretty damn cool. I liked this place so much that we went back enough times so I could be mayor of Foursquare.(please do not go here just to kick my out of my mayorship – I will weep.)

The moon is a lovely pub architechturally, and its being a part of the Wetherspoons chain means it also benefits from their comptitive food and drink prices in one of the most expensive areas of the city for food and drink. Menus are limited to ‘pub grub’ but tasty and have something for everyone. Busy at lunchtimes and early evenings it is a common gathering place for people who refer to themselves as the London ARRSE be aware that these people like to eat drink and be merry the moon appears to welcome them where many pubs refuse them service.

Located in a former banking hall, this cavernous pub provides some of the cheapest pints in central London. It is one of my regular venues for meeting friends in this part of London. Part of the J D Wetherspoons chain, the focus is on a wide selection of traditional real ales, although a variety of other drinks is also available. The pub can get very busy indeed after work(17−19h), but service is generally fast and cheerful, and after 19h it gets a bit quieter. Clientele are a mixture of Whitehall Civil Servants and tourists. There’s a non-smoking area in the back(until the UK smoking ban comes in) which is generally quieter, and they allow children in during the day for meals(check for details). The pub has the standard J D Wetherspoons pub grub — nothing particularly exciting, but filling and good value for money.
