This is strictly for bar, location, and we got two very comfortable chairs, to enjoy our pints. Girlfriend is from London, we were staying in Victoria, had toured Trafalgar Square, so it was convenient, but she waved us off concerning the food. Also, I being new to British beer, she saw one that she knew I liked in the pub. She thought this would hold me, until we arrived at Covent Garden, it was fine with me, had our pints and were on our way.

The pub is located conveniently near Trafalgar Square. Me and my family went in around 2:00 o’clock so it was easy to find good seating. Like most pubs you order at the bar. I had the pastrami burger, my sister had a pot pie, and mom had a fish and chips. The food wasn’t anything special, but still warm and hardy like all good pub food. I recommend the place when it’s slower and you’re in the neighborhood.

Infested with rodents. When I went there 24th July 2015 we saw two mice quite happily and calmly running around people’s feet as they ate. If we are seeing mice boldly in the pub just imagine how many there must be. If you really want to know about the rest of the pub… they pour the Guinness badly. It is shabby and unclean in the toilets and shabby and worn down in the finishings upstairs. The wallpaper is peeling off and it just feels like it needs a good clean up. Hopefully that would get rid of the mice as well.

My mom and I came here on a Saturday around noon. We found this place after entering many other restaurants on Whitehall that were at capacity. The pub was right by Trafalgar Square and there was ample seating available. It took us a few times to realize this, but the Silver Cross, like most of the pubs in London requires you to seat yourself then order at the bar. Luckily there was signage everywhere reminding customers of this practice. My mom had the fish and chips and I had the chicken burger with lettuce, bacon, and cheese and chips. It took quite a while for our food to arrive at our table and when it did it was a bit cold. We were starving so the food was a welcome addition to our stomachs, but compared to other places we ate at while in London this food was sustenance to keep us alive rather than enjoyable meal. Pass on this place and try another further off the tourist routes.

My food goal when visiting London was to find a decent order of fish and chips, that’s it. My fiancée and I stopped in here while visiting Trafalgar Square and realizing that most pubs in the area weren’t serving food and thinking the atmosphere in here seemed pretty nice. We ordered our meals at the counter and grabbed a few drinks to enjoy in the meantime. The beers weren’t that tasty(many British beers are nothing to write home about or buy again, unfortunately), but that’s no fault of the pub as we just picked a few duds. We got our meals and my order of fish and chips was generous, looked great, was well-cooked, and hot. However, the only word I can really use to describe the taste of it is «bland». It was very disappointing to say the least. My fiancée ordered the hunters chicken and she also felt it was bland and tasteless(the BBQ sauce was awful in particular). The meal was also quite pricey, even for London’s standards. While the people were friendly and the atmosphere was nice(I love the feel of pubs), the food was tasteless and way too expensive for what your receive. I would never come back here and I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they just want to grab a quick drink.

Still don’t understand room temp 3.5 beer but that’s what you can get here. Solid place, good environment good, good pints and pretty solid grub. I only got the fish & chips but it was pretty good.

Soooo. Very bland pub food(nothing awful but nothing to write home about either). Steak burger was okayish, fish and chips barely passable(but the peas were positively horrible). Prices a bit high, and standing in line to order and prepay your food is not thrilling either. A special mention of disgrace for table and seats which were uncomfortable and dirty.

Sad to see such negative reviews. As a tourist in London, this was easily my favorite evening stop. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere is like stepping back in time, and the drinks were wonderful. We never had to wait long for service any of the three nights there. I found the prices to be adequate for a pub in the middle of the city. There was plenty of seating and we even befriended one of the bartenders. Hope to be back soon.

Ordered the Fish & Chips: portion size is very generous. Fish was average quality. The bartenders were friendly in describing the various ales on tap. This pub may be in the center of London, but it was very relaxed and welcoming to just chill and enjoy a beverage for a moment.

So far as pubs go between Parliament and Trafalgar Square, this one isn’t entirely horrible. If you don’t walk in expecting a proper British pub experience — i.e. if you’re not surprised by the constant avalanche of tourists — then you can actually enjoy a decent pint and some pub grub that [probably] won’t kill you. The beers are a tad expensive(~£4) but the food is standard Brit-pub chain prices, £6−9 for sandwiches and £9−14 for most entrees. The wait time for lunch this past Saturday was around 45 minutes, so ask before ordering in case it’s too long for you to wait. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the staff are terrible, but given the slow speed at which tables are cleared and orders are taken at the bar, they’re clearly understaffed at least and rather inefficient at best.

As an end to the London portion of my family’s vacation, we all felt we had to get some local English pub food before going home. This establishment, however turned out to be a bad choice for the experience. Located right next to Trafalgar Square, it’s interior is what you would expect and initially was very pleasing. The bad portion was the food and service. For the four of us we ordered 2 orders of bangers and mash, one steak plate and a chicken wings plate. Keep in mind that here, one has to order food at the bar and pay in advance. There are no servers. It took 45 minutes and two visits to the bar to complain to get our food. When we did get the food, all the food was warm at best, so we surmised that they had just forgotten about us. My son’s steak was not seasoned at all, not even salt or pepper. When we asked for some steak sauce(A-1 or similar), we were told it would cost 1.5 pounds($ 2.25) extra. The bangers and mash were well plated and looked good. The taste of the items was in fact good, but just barely warm. Lastly, my wife’s wings plate was very disappointing. She tasted some of it and was concerned. My son works at KFC and told us after we left that the wings«look like the stuff we throw out»…yikes! I should have done some research before picking this place, but it was late(after 8:30 and we went with what was close.

Hübscher Pub, mehrstöckig und klassisch. Mit unserer Gruppe aber haben wir die Kochkünste eindeutig überfordert. Also im Foodbereich nicht zu viel erwarten.

Oooh welcome to tourist-land! The Silver Cross is absolutely HUGE inside! We had a group of 11(as we’d just finished a meeting next door) so it seemed like a sensible option to stop us wandering around for aaages to spot a pub with enough space for us. It was OK because: — The staff were friendly-ish — The snack food was all-right(we shared some mounds of nachos and chips) — We managed to fine a huge table with room for all of us — Someone bought some yummy bottles of wine The ‘Eep’ factor: — Ohmygoodness! The ladies toilets were pretty stinky! — I seem to remember thinking the main menu sounded a bit bland. I wouldn’t come back here to eat, but it’s an okay place to stop for a drink.
