Really nice atmosphere in this place, though the food I thought was average but had a hearty homely feel to it. The menu could do with a few more vegetarian options as well.

I had the pork belly with kimchi-coleslaw. It was a really excellent dish — absolutely loved the tender pork belly and the amazingly flavourful(and plentiful!) kimchi-coleslaw on the side which went perfectly with the pork belly. All the other dishes our group ordered looked good — the barbecued hake and chicken caesar salad. All of our desserts were fantastic too — I loved my sorbet and ice cream. Ambience is simple and hipster. Good for up to semi-formal occasions. Service was generally prompt and good. No major hiccups, and they were understanding when we had to rush to our performance at the end. All in all, a great place!

I had been meaning to visit the Green Room for a while now as I always walk past it and it looks really nice. So when I got to pick the team lunch destination I picked this one. The menu looked fresh and tasty and there was a good selection of drinks. I had the burger with chips and I was very happy with it. While they only have one option and it is pretty simple without any fancy extras, the patty was juicy and slightly n the salty side like I like it and the bun was very fresh and soft. I wish all my burgers were like that. The chips were also very yummy and full of flavour. My colleagues also tried the squid and the chicken and they all said that they were glad I picked this place because their food was great. The raspberry wheat beer that I also tried was a bit too sweet but it was an interesting flavour and after I got used to it I liked it. The staff was very friendly as well and while the food took a little while the atmosphere of the place made up for it. I think it’s the quirky décor that has a hipster/reclaimed items vibe and a lot of light coming in from the glass windows all around that makes it feel like a happy place. There is also a beer garden outside for when the weather is hot and they sometimes put deckchairs on the grass so you can drink comfortably. I would definitely go back to try more of their menu and have already recommended it to some friends.

Starting this review, astonished by the bad reviews written by others. So we went there on a Friday, end of the day. Probably before the rush. So we found a nice table outside, in the shadow. Service was very friendly and efficient. For the drinks: yummy cocktails(Rosemary gin lemon and ginger beer) For the food: best hotdog I ever had. I know hotdogs are not«haute cuisine» but it’s delicious :-) also the fish and chips was nice. Nothing wow but good nonetheless. The great thing is the big outdoor area with grass also

I went here for dinner after a trip to the nearby Old Vic theatre and as a friend recommended it(I can only think that when he went as it was a Weds eve it was better). I’m so disappointed as I really wanted to love this place from what I read and heard about it especially with how socially conscious it is, in using local produce and serving /supporting the local community but this was one of the worst experiences I’d had in a while. From arrival to leaving, the service was an absolute shambles and a few hours later I am still annoyed about it especially as it wasn’t cheap and I feel more should’ve been done(and possibly we should’ve said more at the time in complaint) It seems the mixture of some Saturday Summer sunshine and I’m not sure what else caused our experience to be so disappointingly slow and inept. On arrival, a tourist barged infront of us and was dealt with first(not necessarily the staff’s fault but it was clear we were next in line) so that wasn’t the greatest start. We waited at least 10 minutes, possibly 15, to order our drinks and of course by this time were ready to order our food too. The first waiter who took our order(we had four!) seemed harassed immediately and could barely understand us(though we both speak clear English). Our cocktails arrived — nice but in tiny tumblers at the cost of nearly £9! I thought someone was going to tell us they’d run out of adult glasses! When the food arrived — though tasty, was small in portion size especially mine which was the pork ribs with coleslaw and corn on the cob. I have no idea how a man could’ve eaten the same size portion and not been starving still. We ordered desserts and waited nearly half an hour for them to arrive. We both had to ask two separate waiters when we were likely to receive them and when I enquired I had to say we were going to miss our train home if they didn’t arrive soon. Clearly they had been forgotten. When they arrived, it took a few minutes for us to receive the spoons to eat them with and the complimentary hot drinks we had been offered because of the dessert debacle. I am still in shock about how disappointing and poor this experience was and would not recommend going here especially as we have experienced bad stomachs since.

Very small portions considering the price. Vegan burger delicious, hot dog not so much

Having seen the plot of land on which the National theatre and Coin Street latest project«The Green Room» restaurant is on, evolve and develop into aforementioned eating location; it is just opposite my office — I was keen to test out the menu and take a look inside. It’s huge glass windows gives passer bys a view into the whole restaurant, and there are a couple of outdoor areas which will no doubt be very popular during the summer months. Upon arrival you are greeted by a huge box of blankets for those brave people keen to embrace the outdoors at this time of year. The eccentric green theme runs throughout; green books as shelves in the loos, green wine bottle end glasses on the table and complementary green cutlery too. The quirky design features are made from old props from the national theatre and the sustainable outdoor space around was designed and is maintained by the Bankside Open Spaces Trust with volunteers from the theatre and local area. The menu was simple — a range of different meaty items(hot dogs/burger/steak), calamari for those fish lovers, and for the vegetarians, risotto and veggie hot dogs. Salads and skin on chips on the side are extra, and the home made baked beans sounded great but I’ll have to return to try them. Burgers, steak, a hot dog and calamari all arrived at our table, each enjoyed by their owner. Glasses of white wine were very reasonably priced at £5.50, and served simply; in a clear end of the bottle style glass. Despite not being a pudding lover, I gave in and shared profiteroles, whilst a baked Alaska(very sweet) was served to the sugar lovers. Really great, and I would say simple menu — my hot dog had great flavours and the calamari was said to be fantastic. Definitely worth a visit if you’re on the south bank and fancy something different to the chain restaurants that are available near the river by embankment bridge.
