The Garden Shed

I had no idea this was a «kiwi pub», but noticed a few lovely touches like the Aoteroa painting, and the beef burger on the menu proudly uses «Winiata beef». The bar staff are mostly made up of friendly aussies and kiwis too. They were able to easily accommodate gluten free options but there weren’t many vegie options — this didn’t seem unusual though as the menu wasn’t huge. I had a mushroom and goats cheese burger with fries which was nice, nothing particularly special — but I asked the lovely girl at the bar for extra cheese and she made this happen which was appreciated!
There was a guy with his guitar playing awesome tracks we all know and love, he had a great voice and the music wasn’t too loud so everyone could enjoy it while still being able to chat. He even let me sing a little duet of crowded house with him haha (too many wines on my part but I am a singer too so it wasn’t entirely terrible from me. I hope not anyway!)
The atmosphere and beer garden is very lovely and has quirky lantern lights everywhere which is a nice touch.
As a wine drinker I was pleased to see the selection of New Zealand wines on the menu too.
All in all I had a very pleasant evening at the Garden Shed, I would recommend it to everyone — whether you’re kiwi or not ;)

Lovely interior — beautiful green tiles on the bar, fireplaces, Winchester style armchairs — it manages to feel light and airy but cosy at the same time. There is a lovely conservatory with space for large groups that is available for hire though it is not necessary to make a reservation to sit here. There is also a garden with what I think was a ping pong table but I wasn’t out there. I noticed they had board games & there was a sign saying a Wii was available. When we arrived at lunch time it wasn’t too busy and we were warmly greeted by the very friendly owner, we chose from their menu of pizzas but they also offered salads and some snacky options like wedges and chicken wings. The pizzas were freshly baked, did not take long to get to us and were really tasty. The other member of staff we dealt with was really lovely & friendly too — a great spot all round.
