The Chelsea Potter

I stumbled upon this place when walking in the shopping area of Chelsea, with my dad. So glad I ended up in this establishment! I have definitely had an increased appreciation for British food since I hadn’t tried British pub food!
I got Pimm’s Cup and a meat pie! My Pimm’s was delicious and refreshing on that summer day (it was summer day when I visited London)! The meat pie was perfectly cooked with the sauce and the portion was more than enough! It was served with roasted veggies and fries.
Overall, great service, ambiance (since it was during the World Cup), and great food! I love this area and will definitely be back in the future!

Don’t waste your time… or money. Probably the single worst experience I’ve had in quite some time. Why is there not a zero star option?
Service. Atrocious. Both behind the bar and service when the food came to our table.
After waiting almost 40 minutes for food, One person in our party waited an additional 20 minutes after we all got our food — according to the waiter it was his fault because he ordered separately. Um… we all did and ordered after him… and when it came out it was stone cold and had to be sent back anyway.
The food. Criminally bad. Every single dish. The roast lunch was microwaved, the chicken chorizo burger was a joke. The only redeeming factor? There was alcohol.
I get that this is Chelsea, and this place is going to be busy regardless of what anyone says on here but just my 2 cents. Patrons BEWARE.

Fresh from a complete makeover, the Chelsea Potter looks much different than it did just a couple months ago. It’s a bit more wide open inside, has a nice new paint job and the beer selection has dramatically improved! If only they’d gotten rid of the tacky slot machines in the corner… they must be moneymakers for the pub, but seem a bit out of place for a pub that is obviously trying to transform itself from an old man boozer to a more popular place with the young Chelsea crowd.
It’s certainly been busy lately with the World Cup going on — you’ll find a projector and a screen in the back, which makes it probably the best place to watch the matches in Chelsea. Other pubs may have TVs, but watching on a big screen changes the dynamic and brings everything to another level.
I didn’t really like the Potter before its transformation, but I like what they’ve done with it. I’ll have to get back to you about the food — it looked ok but I didn’t eat.

The Chelsea Potter has been cheered and vilified… by tourists that think it’s not «authentic enough»…to locals that complain about the cost of «fags» (hey it says right on package — «smoking will cut your life span-​no soft touch comments like in the states).
However, I have been to the Potter so many different times, day, night, weekdays, weekends, holidays… sunny 80 degrees or rain or snow and 37, I think I can honestly assess the good the bad the local and the touristy.
First the location and set up is great, right on Kings Road with a poultry number of picnic tables outside (regardless of weather –there is usually a number of people hanging outside– almost always locals).
The intention is an English Pub… but dude from Texas… this is the English Pub of the new millennium… super cold Kronenbourg and flat screens along with the more traditional ale pour set up… and especially during the day, you are going to run into more tourists… but this is London, not Minneapolis… I’ve met people from Brazil. Japan, France and Egypt… that in itself makes the place a treat.
They have a typical decent selection of Beers, Ales, Stouts, …and a few other drink choices… the food? meh… its ok new English Pub food, I’ve usually stuck to more of the appetizer fare. I’d suggest prices are typical… perhaps a tad more than a pub further afield…
But contrary to remarks like «chiseled-​cheekbones …Chelsea Wannabes-​this can feel very local… I’ve celebrated an English Rugby victory, and boos when Rooney stepped on that lad’s groin back in the world cup… believe me there we loads of locals at the bar… and for anyone from the states, or abroad that hasn’t been to the UK in lets say, the last 25 years??? The locals come in all races, colors and accents… not just pale with a need for a dentist:)
The staff is friendly, mostly locals a few American expats and a Canadian the last time I was there.
However, on a rainy Tuesday evening around 9 pm, looking out of the bay like window on Kings Road… loving the city the way I do… I find warmth… levity and friendliness every time I happen to say …“Hey — they have Strongbow »

If you are going fishing for Chelsea twats, then drop your line in here and you’re bound to catch something.
My sister and I went looking for somewhere to have a quick drink after dinner on the Kings Road and came upon this ‘traditonal English pub’. It looked lively so we went in. Full of Made in Chelsea looking wannabes. My sister whispered ‘don’t their faces look very similar’. It did look like they all came from the same family. Identical hair cuts and chiseled cheekbones. And the staring, how much they stared at us like we were dinner. Eugh.
We drank and left, never to return. The place is just bland and they were actually playing Made in Chelsea on all the tellies.

V Cheap for Kings Road, atmosphere OK, easy to get to, gets a bit squished on a Fri or Sat but none the less a bargain pub in a sea of expensive watering holes

So many times I have walked past this local pub. Maybe I just got so used to passing it by it felt wrong to walk in. But when I finally went in one random Sunday afternoon I found the place quite cozy. Its draw is that it is your typical boozer –a TV to watch the match of the day, a couple of game machines and the usual line up of drinks and menu. Its familiar and that makes it a good place to go for no particular reason then to grab a pint and be with friends. There are more exciting places to drink at on and just off the King’s Road, but every now in then this place will do nicely.

It was the turn of the Hodge to host this month’s meeting of the Supper Club and this was his venue of choice; a slightly strange selection but he does live just round the corner! If you walking along the Kings Road from Sloane Square this is the first pub you will come across and it’s somewhere I have used a few times in the past to recover from a shopping session in nearby Peter Jones.
We rolled up last Thursday on a lovely sunny early April evening to find plenty of folk enjoying the fine weather, all the outdoor seating was taken so it was standing room only if you wanted to enjoy the evening sun. This was fortunate for us as it meant we were able to locate a table inside for the five of us without too much trouble.
I was drinking the Woodforde’s Wherry ale which had been well kept, was crystal clear and a good temperature. My pals were drinking the Doom Bar and London Pride which got happy nods of approval all round. The wine list looked ok, but nothing to write home about, and is what you would expect from this type of pub in this area.
After a couple of pints it was time for some food and after a thorough examination of the bog standard, and if I’m being honest pretty boring, pub menu I decided to go for the cod, chips and mushy peas. It turned out to be a safe but distinctly average choice; a large piece of fish in a decent crispy batter, lukewarm slightly overdone pre-​prepared chips and an ok portion of peas. At £10.95 it was not cheap but was decent enough fodder to soak up the beer. If you are looking for good food you could do much better than this at a similar price in one of the many local restaurants.
The pub itself is fairly unremarkable in terms of its décor, nothing much in way of any particular charm but basically inoffensive. The clientele are mostly down to earth, non-​pretentious, local types with a few tourists thrown into the mix. The staff are friendly and efficient.
It’s busy a pub without being too packed and it’s a good place to pass an evening chatting with pals or just to grab a cold one and watch the hustle and bustle of the Kings Road.

A decent enough pub in a good location. It’s basically your standard London pub with a crowd of young professionals and a few old geezers mixed in. Good selection of beer on tap, and the food isn’t half bad. The benches and tables outside are a nice touch, if you can find a space!

Sit outside and watch the posh walk by. Kinda snooty people, typical of Chelsea. Sit on the benches and make friends.

This pub actually impressed us on Saturday. I’m not used to West London so was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere of this place (even whilst we were sat outside). Friendly staff, decent rose and enough ales to keep the ale drinker happy. There’s a fag machine too, but at £6.80 for 16 it’s not going to win any points from me — until you realise that there’s nowhere along Kings Road to buy smokes. Then this place is a lifesaver.
I’d come back here if I was in the area. Perfect place to start a night out.

Poor beers and cheap pub food. However, one of the few pubs on the kings road with a true atmosphere. Meet there before you go out and eat, drink bottled bears and its just fine and dandy.

Typical pub with typical fare — though its location means it still draws in some token members of the Chelsea crowd.
It wasn’t too busy on the Sunday evening when a couple friends and I stopped in, and we easily snagged a large table with stool-​chairs before placing our drink orders with the friendly and helpful staff at the bar.
Even though we were really just there for a quiet drink, about an hour into our conversation we ordered some fish & chips (not me), olives and some garlic bread. Again, nothing more than what you’d expect from a pub, but the quality wasn’t wanting and there was nothing otherwise objectionable about the food — something I often consider a bonus when it comes to pub fare.
Come here if you happen to be on King’s Road and are looking for the familiar wooden boozer in which to enjoy a standard G&T.

This a good, honest English pub and the last of a dying breed on the Kings Road. It’s a perfect summer pub when they open all the windows — a great place to watch all the fashionistas of the Kings Road marching up and down on their shopping extravaganzas. Now a bit grubby around the edges, hence the 3 stars.
