Tartine is an honest North African/French café that offers a wide menu that ranges from continental and English breakfasts to homemade burgers and North African inspired quesadillas. As is apparent from the cheap prices on the menu there are no airs and graces about the food offered here. It is good wholesome food served always with a smile. If you’re after a high end French bakery or bistro experience this is not for you. For example the croissants although always are served crispy and buttery evidently come into the café frozen and are cooked on site in the oven behind the bar. Another example, the Eggs Benedict won’t be the best you have had as they use cheap eggs(I accidentally saw the box in the open kitchen) and the consistency isn’t always great but remember how much you are paying and it puts things into perspective. The crystal coffee beans(I asked the staff) they use are smooth and appear to be medium roast. The latte is always served thick and frothy. Whether you are after a weekend brunch or need to get some work done early on a weekday this is a place I recommend. The wifi is great and the atmosphere is comfortable. Of course during peak hours they are very busy and there may be a few too many«yummy mummy’s» for your liking.

Great and relatively inexpensive coffee as well as a good atmosphere. Food is pretty good but overpriced. ‘Large’ Caesar salad wasn’t large, cost £6.50 and consisted of just cos lettuce, a few croutons, a little grated parmesan, too little(very tasty) chicken and way too much dressing. Would probably come again for coffee but would give it a miss for food.

I have often walked past this place and it always seems to be buzzing with people. I have wanted to try it for a while so when looking for a nice place to go for breakfast on Sunday morning this seemed like a good option. We got a table straight away and the service seemed pretty good to start. Our orders were taken quickly but we then had a long wait before we even got our drinks. The food was a longer wait again. The food itself was ok. I had the Croque Madame which itself was quite nice but it came with fries where were underdone and not particularly edible. My friend had the full breakfast which he said was really good. Looking at other food coming out it did look good and the people around me seemed to be enjoying their food. They were really busy so it was hard to get the waitresses attention at times. When I did eventually get their attention I asked for a glass of water but it never appeared and I didn’t bother asking again. I don’t think my personal experience was brilliant but the overall atmosphere in there was really good. The place is really noisy and lively and I think it’s definitely worth another go before I make up my mind.
