You would walk pass this and not give the place a second look. However this is a lovely simple sushi place. I love eating here. There is always a table for walk ins. The staff are friendly and the place has a friendly ambience to it. The sushi is amazing. I have yet to try something I did not like. The green tea is made well(I have been to places where the water is too hot and makes the tea bitter). I admit I’ve not tried anything but the sushi menu, so I do not know what they are like.

Great value for money on the sushi… Miso soup delicious and the tofu steak gorgeous too. Unfortunately the beef teriaky in my opinion was microwaved… Meat too dry with the slimy blood underneath… Typical of the microwave if you warm up a piece of meat! For sure we will be back!

after Unilocal had already let us down earlier about a nearby place no longer open(and re-opened clearly under a different/new name), we thought we could rescue the evening dinner plans by going to Taro, which seemed to have pretty good ratings(in hindsight this seems to be a spot mostly for locals who must go there out of loyalty rather than value reasons). but alas, this Unilocal info seemed a bit also misleading w/the two pound-sign price-rating, where as our meal came out to a bit more than we expected(almost 50 quid) and we didn’t really order all that much food. this wouldn’t have bothered as much had the food been a bit more impressive or at least good size portions, but neither was to be found, it actually was just rather mediocre on both fronts(for japanese food standards), and we felt not quite fairly departed from our money with what we received in return we started off with an appetizer, and a sashimi platter. the appetizer was some decent fried fare(tho i can get en entire lunch for the price of just it in the city where i work), the sashimi is where things started to go down hill for us. while the fish seemed fresh and tasty, the portions were pretty meager and the amount of slices were less than you would expect for the price. the menu listed more salmon pieces than we received(but they gave us extra other pieces i guess as compensation). would have been nice if we were told that ahead of time since my lady actually really enjoys her salmon. trying to look past this we didn’t make a big deal out of it to the staff and continued our meal. the pork katsu was actually pretty well made and the chicken noodle dish was, not bad either. all in all, the meal wasn’t horrible, but when we got the bill, we were a bit in disbelief. having us both also had just a beer each, and the 10% service charge they add to the bill for you(although i understand it’s discretionary), we were looking at almost a 50 quid bill. can’t blame the place entirely that we didn’t scrutinize the price of every dish and do the calculations ahead in our minds(but having to do that takes some of the fun of dining out). we simply ordered what we thought would be a reasonably sized, reasonably priced friday night dinner. what we got was lacking in the former and excessive in the latter :-\

I did takeaway, so eating in might be a slightly different experience. That said, I do live close enough to Taro that by the time I walked home and got settled in, the food was still a bit too hot to eat — so I don’t think I lost much in the way of quality by carrying it out. We ordered the chicken yakitori, chicken dumpling soup, beef teriyaki, and a seafood noodle dish(yakiudon, I believe). The beef teriyaki didn’t come with rice, which I found surprising, but whatever. The yakitori and teriyaki were both disappointing in the sense that the sauce wasn’t what we were expecting. I’ve always known teriyaki sauce in particular to be thick; this was almost like the beef was marinated briefly in a thin sauce, then cooked, with a spoonful of sauce tossed over it before serving. The yakitori sauce was decent — but had barely any flavour. The yakiudon was by far the most disappointing, though. There was very little sauce(what little sauce there was had settled at the bottom of the dish — but, trust me, there wasn’t much there), and the result was that it tasted almost like I was eating leftover noodles. You know when you reheat a noodle dish but have no more sauce to add? So you have a delicate sauce-like flavour if you pay close attention, but the whole thing is a bit dry and sticky? Yeah, that. That said, the chicken dumpling soup was delicious — though, again, the chicken lacked flavour. I did like the broth, as it wasn’t overly salty nor too strong. A light, delicate, clear broth. I will say the staff was very friendly and did get the food turned around very quickly, so, uh, points for that?

I went here for lunch and was very disappointed. They are set up as a Japanese place but it’s Korean-Japanese fushion. My friends ordered the special. and i was like Hey~! my mom used to cook me that for lunch all the time.(my mom is korean)… THIS isn’t what upset me. I ordered sushi… the VERY basics of sushi is the sushi rice + raw fish + seaweed paper ~ 3 things. the rice was STICKY! no rice vinegar to make sushi rice. You may or may not know the difference but i love my sushi and was really taken aback that the one staple ingredient in sushi was not there. Therefore this place gets 1 star from me. My friends enjoyed their KOREAN lunch and did not complain… nor could tell the difference~ as i’m sure the rest of the people there can’t as well.

Really decent Japanese at a reasonable price point. I’d recommend for larger parties to book in advance though for myself and my guest it was possible to walk up and sit by the bar. They are quite busy on most evenings so be prepared for some typical service chaos. The chicken katsu was lovely and authentic, I think the Koreans make the best chicken katsu after all my experiences across Australia. Otherwise I was told the sashimi was fresh and delicious and my only dissapointment was the lack of calpico which is a taste I miss quite a lot.

Good rolls but the chicken teri bento was lacking. The chicken was not grilled but looked more like boiled with some sauce on top. Good service and reasonable prices. Chicken Teriyaki Bento Sunomono Gyoza Chicken Teriyaki Rolls California Rolls

Tolle Sushi Location mit einer großen Auswahl an Sushi. Leider sehr teuer. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich und die Bedienung freundlich. Wir mussten relativ lange warten, was aber mit Sicherheit der Vielzahl der Gäste an diesem Abend zu schulden war.

Kind of like the restaurant equivalent of a unicorn – delicious sushi that doesn’t creep you out and is cheap. Nath and I powerhoused a variety of rolls – yellow tail and green onion, futomaki, salmon avocado, salmon skin, spicy tuna(no mayo), etc etc– black cod marinated w/miso(miso paste was a tad aggressive, but not a bad piece of fish) – the cucumber sunomono was decent, the salad didn’t have the standard ginger dressing but was yummy. Delightful waitress who was clearly horrified at the amnt of food that we were consuming – clean, simple décor, would definitively not a bad place to have around as your Sunday night sushi spot.

Taro is one of my favorite sushi joints in the area. If you can’t get a table at Sushi Say in Willesden Green, this is your best bet for quality and fresh sushi in the area. The sashimi salad is delicious, with its soy/sesame dressing and fresh cuts of salmon and tuna. I also love the spicy tuna roll. Be sure to book if you are going on the weekend!

I am so glad that this restaurant is on Finchley Rd — yummy, fresh, affordable sushi locally is always going to be a winner in my book! I’ve been to Taro quite a few times over the years and the food and service is consistently good. They have a good selection of rolls(I particularly like the yellowtail tempura roll, the softshell crab roll and the spicy tuna roll) which are the perfect size to fit in your mouth and chew without gagging! :) Depending on whether you go for a plain roll such as salmon maki or something with more ingredients in it, they range from about £3−4.50 for 4 – 6 pieces. The sashimi is always very fresh and tasty and comes in pretty big pieces(you can get a mixed sashimi platter for £9.50). The place itself is quiet and simple — very clean and comfortable. The staff are very polite but not chatty, which is no big deal, as they get the job done efficiently. It can get quite busy, but I have never had to wait for a table. Little piece of trivia — Taro is owned by the same person who owns the Korean BBQ ‘Seoul’ a few doors down(see my review of Seoul!) and funnily at Seoul they have a short copy of the Taro menu slotted into their own one at the back. I would definitely recommend Taro if you have a hankering for sushi and you’re in the area. You could perhaps do what I did last night and go for a sushi dinner before strolling down to the O2 Centre(3 mins walk away) and catching an Orange Wednesdays movie at Vue… that way you are a) getting a delicious dinner b) catching a movie in a big comfortable cinema for a bargain price and c) bypassing the Yo Sushi dinner you could have had in the O2 Centre!

Japanese restaurant owned by Korean, thus my recommendation is the unusual teriyaki beef don(or rice). It has Korean style stir-fry vermicelli and mix vegetables with nice grilled teriyaki beef steak. The price is cheap, and their sushi box is good too. Some of the dishes not as impressive, but overall a nice restaurant. Service is a bit cold, but okay. They used to do Japanese yakiniku(on table barbecue) but not anymore, which is a shame. They do online order for delivery in neighboring areas.
