Oooh I like it here. I was helping run a blogging event here earlier this week and they’d just done up their private room. Which meant it still smelt slightly of wood shavings and paint. I’m decorating and interiors obsessed. I love the smell of wood shavings. The wine was good. And considering it was a sponsored event so this was possibly their house wine, it was very good. The chairs in the main bar were comfy, the little cinema-esque layout of the private room was lovely. The food was forgettable, but then I didn’t get any mini burgers. The spirits and cocktails are expensive, but four points was £11.50, I think. That’s not too shabby, is it? That said, aside from a few others, the population of the bar was made up of us. It’s quiet(is this because the whole place closed while they did it up and no one know it’s open again?). I wouldn’t come here for the vibe or the food, but if you’re in the area, it’s a good place to pop on your way into the busier areas of Shorditch.

Having been to the restaurant at Tabernacle I thought I would add my review. I went there for a business lunch. The restaurant is elegant, rather dark and a good place for a quiet business lunch or to take clients to. The food was excellent. The shared platter of antipasti was incredible(cured meats, vegetables, pickles, olives, pates, buffalo mozzarella and crostini). My companions had the house red by the glass — the glass was the size of a fish bowl and the wine a mouthwatering italian red. I had the prosecco and it was the best I have ever tasted — tiny bubbles, dry and fresh. The main courses were a bit less impressive. My monkfish with mussels was beautifully presented but a little salty. My companions had the Roast chicken and Tagliatelle and both were very pleased with their choices. The service was very good. I would definitely go again!

A word of advice, make sure you are always dressed to the nines if you plan to go to the Tabernacle. Do not expect it to be a quirky place, even though it’s in the heart of East London. This place gets far too packed on a Saturday, well the cocktail bar up top does. And don’t even venture into the downstair meat market(oops, sorry, i meant ‘Nightclub’) Service at the bar was slow and they had run out of Malibu and Bourbon the night we were there. The only thing it has going for it is the décor. Trendy, furniture showroom style. Obverpriced and overcrowded and overpretentious.

The Tabernacle has a bit of everything, there is a bar which serves pretty generous drinks measures(free pouring wine and spirits instead of measuring them out first) with bar food which has a few platters, sandwiches and a pretty traditional bar food. There is a resturant which has a more of an a la carte menu which is much more expensive– looks delicious but I have yet to sample it. Downstairs there is a club(which they call the Lounge Bar) which is open til 2 and does sometimes get some quite big name DJS. There is a lot to do in the area– but if you do not feel like trekking around Shoreditch the Tabernacle is a good place to have some drinks then a bit of a dance!
