Specsavers

One of my prescription sunglass lenses somehow fell out of its frame and went missing, so I needed a quick replacement. I happened to be on Tottenham Court Road so popped into this shop.
Spec-​savers was quick to replace the lenses and did a nice job matching the gradient style of the old lenses although I didn’t buy the frames there. My frames were from Prada whereas Specsavers carries what you would call more budget friendly brands.
Price was a reasonable £60 for the 2 lenses (both lenses needed to be replaced so they would match) and this branch accepted my out of country prescription. Within 4 hours my sunglasses were ready to be picked up and summer was saved.

I am not happy with specsavers on totenham court road. I had an odd problem were the conact lenses that i purchased from them have broken whilst in my eye and one of the smaller fragments then makes it way round to behind my eye lid. The first time this happened i went to the soho walk in center (very helpful) I assumed this was a freak one of thing. When this happened again I decided to go to specsavers. The staff on reception where fairly blunt when i explained the problem, after some discussions they said that they could see me but they’d have to charge me a £20 after care charge. As I have been a customer for many years at this store i felt this was unreasonable. Also the way the lady phrased it i felt like they didnt really want to see me and this was to try and put me off. When i explained that i had alreadt been to a doctors and that i didnt have any other option she begrudgingly asked me to take a seat.
To give them their due i was seem fairly quickly.
The guy that saw me had a look in my eyes and said that he couldn’t see anything and that it must of come out of my eyes. I didnt really trust this so i tried to ask some questions and explain what happened before he basically rubbished all this and when i’d relayed what my GP had said that morning, he said that doctors didnt know much about eyes. Whilist i still don’t know if the fragment of contact lens is still in my eye or not, he could have explain things a bit more gently and perhaps even offered advice as how to prevent it from happening again. When i got a bit upset that i didnt feel he was taking my concerns seriously he became even more unhelpful, saying that he didnt know what i was worrying about because it wasn’t a big deal. I was clearly distressed/​worried and he didnt nothing to help the situation.
Annoyingly i’d just bought another 3 month batch of contact lenses from them but next time im going to try Boots!

I’ve been going here for years — but given that means 4 times since a checkup is every two, it doesn’t mean much. I work in the vicinity. It does, however, appear to have gone downhill. I’m sure I recall a nice man giving me a thorough eye test, recommending the not-​the-​most-​expensive glasses, and being able to book an appointment.
fast-​forward to today and it just wasn’t good enough. It took 5 phone calls to book an appointment — leaving my number for a callback each time which was never followed up.
The eye test took ten minutes, felt rushed, and was carried out by a brusque young lady whi’d clearly rather be washing her hair. I explained I’d been having not only headaches but itchy eyes and I couldn’t put my contact lenses in. She said she’d book me a contact len appointment. But surely you could maybe check that it’s not because of my eyes? Oh, ok, I’ll check your eyes ok (isn’t this the point of an eye tst?).
Then we go to book the contact lens check and she orders my same old contact lenses again. But I can’t put them in. I told her that. And the prescription’s changed. Right. Yes, of course. (Wanders off for no discernible reason, hands me my receipt and stares blankly at me). Erm… this carried on for a good ten minutes.
I give up. Thankfully I left clutching my prescription, and with a promised contact lens check with NEW contact lenses. I’ll have that, and then I’ll buy elsewhere. Their direct debit scheme is a rip-​off — you overpay by approximately 100% on the retail price — and it would appear their opticians no longer care about your eye health, which is worrying.
Yes, you get two pairs of glasses for the price of one but other places are catching up, and there’s no reason to feel so undervalued as a customer (or patient?!).

I can fully appreciate that people go here for the price. Buy one get one free «designer» glasses seems too good to pass up. I certainly thought so when I stopped in recently during my lunch hour.
I did not have an appointment, so I didn’t mind having to wait half an hour for my eye exam. It was close enough to work. I’d still have plenty of time to grab a quick sandwich before walking back. Then I learned the test came in two parts. I had to wait another 15 minutes for the next part. While waiting, I asked if I could use the toilet.
«We don’t have a customer toilet,» said the clerk.
Hmm, it was beginning to look like less of a good deal.
I had my second eye test and went downstairs to pick my frames. I found two and stood in the line at the customer service desk. About five clerks were doing something behind the counter. By now, I was beginning to get impatient. I really needed to wee. «Excuse me,» I waved at one of the clerks. «Do you have a customer toilet on this floor.»
«Sorry madame, we don’t provide customer toilets.»
Now I was irked. She’d called me «madame,» I’d been in the store nearly an hour, I still didn’t have my glasses and I needed to use the toilet.
«What do you suggest I do,» I asked, trying not to sound shrill.
«There’s a Burger King down the street. You could go there.»
«Can I at least pay now, so I can leave.»
«You’ll have to wait your turn.»
I put the frames on the counter and left the store.
I was so mad that I wrote a letter and sent it snail mail to Specsavers’ corporate office. I received a reply offering a 20% discount and suggesting that I write to the mayor of London about lack of public facilities on Tottenham Court Road.
Needless to say. I will not be taking advantage of the discount. I went to my local optometrist and paid three times as much for a cute pair of Chanel frames.

i ha to go here to get my free company eye test. in between tests the staff forgot about and were rude. When i picked up my glasses, i wanted them adjusted an the guy actually got out some mini pliers and snapped them. he then repalced the frames. I will not be going back not even for a free eye test.

I’ve been a customer here for many years now, lured by the low prices. I have had no complaints at all with the service I have received nor with the products. If you are a contact lense wearer and wear dailes then you can opt for a scheme whereby you decide how many you use per month and then set up a direct debit paying monthly, but receiving your contacts every three months.
On the odd occasion I have run out, or once when there was a problem with the post, then I have gone in and they’ve given me a quite a few spares for free.
Likewise, when I had a problem with my eye and turned up as a bit of an emergency, they were happy to see me straight away.
Give them a try, I’m happy with the service.
