We came upon the tavern and needed a drink & food. Perfect spot. We got our pints & fish & chips, steak sandwich. The Food was very good., and so was the beer. Upstairs has some tables but the real fun is downstairs. In a dungeon like setting we occupied Cell #4. Every table was reserved for the evening. Seems to be a very busy place between 6−9PM We came between lunch-dinner so had ample of seating selection Staff was very friendly. I’ll go back.

I had lunch here after moseying around Covent Garden. It was a great place to escape the rain and grab a pint!

This is a nice pub with good food and a good atmosphere. It almost gets a little too busy at times so if you want a seat I would get there early, but it’s in a great location with a view of the Shard, there’s a little bit of space to stand outside and the food and drinks are reasonably priced. The food is good too… if you want a proper meal there is a seated area downstairs which helps you avoid the crowds of drinkers, but it’s often full so again, leave yourself some time.

I went here last Sunday before lunch for my friend’s bday and it was fairly busy for a late Sunday lunchtime but not massively so. Think it seems more so because space wise it seems so tight. Had a nice glass of wine in there and would probably return. Quick and friendly service. Very handy location on the edge of Borough Market and one of the Southwark tube entrances so handy for there and London Bridge.

Just stopped by for a beer. If you want the English experience and you’re from America or somewhere else, stop by and have a Timothy Taylor brew. Great staff !

The Southwark Tavern is a strange place. Located just off Borough High Street, at the edge of Borough Market it makes for a busy pub. I came on a Friday night at about 9pm and there was diverse crowd of City workers, tourists and people out for a big night. A very convenient place to meet people, I think it would be better in the summer than a rainy February night.

Okay, so perhaps The Southwark Tavern didn’t have the first two ales I tried to order in stock. But once the charming lady behind the bar had made the apologies, I went on to order a Sunday Roast and settled in the corner with my friend(an actual human, not the pint of Cask Ale). The food turned up 20 minutes later, and my Half Roast Chicken came complete with potatoes, roast vegetables, Yorkshire Pud and copious amounts of gravy — but the Chicken(which, lets face it, is all anybody really cares about in a Roast) was juicy, tender and very tasty. I’d like to think that a good Roast Chicken isn’t too difficult to get wrong, but more often than not, the chicken turns up dry, flaky and I end up ordering extra gravy just to get through the whole darn meal. All kudos to The Southwark Tavern — for a gastropub meal, this was a fine Roast, and I’ll happily pop by for another(and hopefully completed with my first choice ale!)

He modificado mi comentario de 5 estrellas a 2.

Went there for a drink with friends on a Saturday night. Typical pub. I just wish they could have poured in more vodka in the glass…

Great location for this pub(just a bit south from London Bridge, on the corner at Stony St. right next to Borough Market. Had an interesting beer, here, Stonehenge Eye Catcher, but tended to gravitate back to the more traditional London ales. Good service during the afternoon(both at the bar and at the table) at midday when the place was a little less crowded. It gets hectic later on, though. The afterwork crowd fills the place later on making the service understandably less reliable. Food is pub classics, mediocre, but what you want in a pub. Great place for a pint off Borough Market if you’re headed this way for the day. I was a tourist here but felt like I was treated as a regular, so that scores high in my book.

A solid, reliable place to go. You won’t be wowed but you won’t feel like you strolled into a tourist trap. I’ve been here about 3 times in the last year and while nothing has blown me away, the quality has been quite reasonable. The staff have been attentive and good humoured which can’t always be easy judging by how packed it can get. Good beer selection. Not too hammy and pretentious. The food is good. Again, not life changing but reliable. Fish isn’t overcooked. Chips were a little dry. Sausage and mash hit the spot… the chocolate and salted caramel tart is definitely one of the reasons I keep going back, it’s probably not even all that fancy but it’s delicious. The only thing it fails at is being standout. Had you put this a mile or so north in the middle of dodgy-Wetherspoons territory there’d be another star here. However set against the backdrop of Borough Market it seems to pale a little. On the doorstep of some fantastic producers and truly unique offerings it just doesn’t seem enough for this pub to be plodding along the way it does. Perhaps it just needs to have a little confidence and show off. Put it this way: it’s opposite the Brindisa tapas restaurant. It needs to up its game. It’s almost there, it’s just got to catch up with everything around it.

A ok pub, right by London Bridge and Borough Market. Good for an evening drink but I wouldn’t recommend the food! It looked like it had been hanging around for a while. I had Salmon Fishcakes with potato wedges, there was nothing particularly awful about the meal, but there was nothing great about it either! When I arrived I asked the waiter if it was ok to move a table and he was pretty rude about it! Think needs a bit of an attitude check.

Its location near London Bridge is perfect for an after work pint — or in my case on the way back to my hotel. It seems like a great neighborhood pub, perfect for meeting up with friends or just to have a pint. They have 3 or 4 different TVs making it a great place to watch Olympic events. It’s also at the beginning of Borough Market so if you have a few, there are places to grab chips nearby. The people are friendly, too.

The basement cells here are very cool, although actually being trapped next to a cell with a loud, drunk and obnoxious occupant was a little taste of real prison! That didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this pub though, which I generally really liked. The prix fixe menu for £10 is excellent value and unlike a lot of prix fixe menus actually has some interesting options. I had whitebait to start which was great but unfortunately the minute steak was overcooked(both mine and my friend’s) so overall I’d have to give 3 stars. Would come back though, and maybe try a less risky dish.

Great neighborhood tavern. Good beer selection, tasty food. I wandered into this place by chance while killing some time before meeting friends. The staff are friendly and the place is clearly popular with the locals. You’d have to stay for hours to make your way through all the local beer/ale options. My only complaint is the same complaint that most would have with the majority of London pubs… the restrooms stink. This is more of a complaint with London as a whole. You’d think this world capital would have figured out urinals and sewage by now.

Ok, here is how we stumbled on this place. We tubed it out(is that a phrase?) to the Borough Market and it turned out to be closed. Womp womp. As we were walking around it anyway, I saw this unsuspecting spot on the corner and it was rather full. Were they tourists? Probably. Was I hungry? Definitely. They have a pretty impressive beer selection. I went with a nice bitter or ipa called the Reviver. It was pretty light bodied, low alcohol and with a nice hop presence. Our meals were the 21 day age West Country Beef and the Roasted Loin of Norfolk Pork. Both dishes were garnished the same way, broccoli, carrots and roasted potatoes which were quite delicious. I really enjoyed the sage jelly that came with my pork and the meal was certainly substantial. I definitely enjoyed the pork more than the beef. The pub itself is quite cavernous and the service was rather good. It’s certainly a decent place to sit for a pint and a bite.

I was waiting to see if London Bridge was gonna fall down, but I got tired of waiting. Must eat, me hungry! A short stride away from the infamous bridge, this tavern served its purpose. The bartender is efficient but not the friendliest chap. No matter, the 2 course 10 euros prix fix menu is sure to take care of things. The salt and pepper squid with lime mayo was thinly battered and had a soft bite to it. My smoked trout-egg salad had a nice ratio of protein and fresh veggies. Bf’s beer battered haddock and chips were fairly decent, the fish was a bit bland but the crispiness made up for it, well, that and the malt vinegar we doused it with. On the other hand, chips were pretty good. Better as a place to stop by for a pint or two, or if you fancy wine, they have a chalkboard list on the wall as well.

Totally decent food(but the steak was cold, and the mash on the side of my otherwise solid braised lamb had that slightly nuclear heat of the microwave) An excellent beer selection– shedloads of ales on tap… but then what’s with those prices? £3.75 for bottles of crappy mexican lager? £4.75 for Sierra Nevada? I know it’s an import, but seriously. Yeah, you’re in zone 1. Suck it. Somewhat cluless barman on one side of the bar(but props and cheers to the guy who pointed out he wasn’t serving in the order arrived) Very cool downstairs with cells in the cellar Too many fecking people in a too small space(but then it was wet and dreary and December) I like the place. I want to love it. The quiz was an awful lot of fun, even if I only joined in so I could keep my table and eat my food. I just can’t love it. And I think it’s because it’s got all the earmarks of what’s going wrong with Borough Market. Which is the price of success, I suppose, and I accept it. But I don’t have to love it. All that being said… I’d come back here. But probably just to drink. And wouldn’t go out of my way for it(though I work awfully close by, so…)

Dozens of nooks and crannies, with exposed brickwork aplenty at this lovely pub adjacent to Borough market. Here’s eight good reasons to venture down on a Saturday: — Open from 10am serving breakfast and beer — Gourmet Sausages and mash served all day — Five secret booths to escape the hustle and bustle of the market — DJs from 8pm — 21 ice cold draught beers and 18 ciders — Gorgeous home-made burgers — Both bars open all day — Open til 1am Need any further convincing? Thought not, just best get there early as devout locals jostle for position.
