I can’t remember the last time I had a good Sunday roast. Sundays for me now consist of curries or Thai or hungover Dominos but you can’t beat a nice big roast with all the trimmings. I was recently given a voucher so I could go & enjoy dinner at Roast in Borough Market. They very kindly agreed to let me swap my dinner reservation for a Sunday lunch time booking so I could make the most of their three courses for £37.50 deal. Roast serves great British food from their glass-windowed restaurant located in the middle of Borough Market. It’s owned by Iqbal Wahhab, the founder of Cinnamon Club and it’s a famed for its use of seasonal produce. We decided to kick our meal off with some fancy looking cocktails. Tom went for the Mango Tarragon Martini(£12) made with Roast gin infused with fresh tarragon, fresh mango purée and elderflower cordial. Lovely and fruity and very strong. I went for the SE1 spICED tea(£12) an even stronger blend of gin, bourbon, citrus infused vodka, rum, cointreau and sugar, topped with ginger ale. Despite containing half the contents of the bar, it’s surprisingly refreshing and the perfect way to start out off meal. I started off our three courses with the pork and black pudding scotch egg served with piccalilli which was incredible. The egg was perfectly cooked so the yolk was still runny and ran into the crisp meaty casing. I felt the piccalilli was a little over-powering so I recommend using it sparingly. Tom went for the pressed wild rabbit and ham hock terrine which came with fig chutney and toasted sour-dough. Not quite to my taste but Tom really enjoyed it. The main courses were where Roast really lived up to its name. The roast pork belly came with the biggest piece of crackling I’ve ever seen. The meat was perfectly cooked and had that rich, melt-in-the-mouth quality — not too fatty but still packed with flavour. Lamb is Tom’s favourite so he went for the rosemary and garlic studded leg of lamb with redcurrant jelly and mint sauce. Perfectly tender and served with an extra-large yorkshire pudding. Roast really know how to spoil you with the extras! All the roasts come with a selection of beef dripping roasties, seasonal green veg and carrots. If you’re anything like me — order an extra round of gravy which the staff are more than happy to bring out. After all that food we had to activate our second ‘dessert stomachs’ so we could squeeze in room for pudding. Tom went for a piping hot Bramley apple crumble served with the creamiest vanilla custard while I predictably went for the sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and clotted cream.(They can call it sticky date pudding all they want, it will always be Sticky Toffee) The three-course Sunday lunch is brilliant value but the alcohol doesn’t come cheap. The cheapest bottle of wine is around £40 and they increase steadily from there so the bill can rack up pretty quickly! Roast would make a really lovely spot if you’re heading out for a celebration. It’a a little pricey so while it’s probably not somewhere I would come every weekend, I would definitely recommend it for a birthday or an occasional treat.

The food was really good, just as was the wine. The ambience was cool, but a bit too loud. Overall a good experience, but I would not consider it eye opening.

EXCELLENT!!! We made a reservation for tonight for 6:30, we walked in and we greeted by very sweet ladies who checked our coats as its a rainy mess in London tonight. The service was pretty good tip is included in the UK at restraraunts so I guess no need to really hustle but they were still good just a tad slow. We started with the celery and blue soup, not sure what to expect but OMG it was fantastic hot warm creamy soup with walnuts and blue cheese gosh it was perfect. Then my husband and I(honeymoon) had the chateaubriand for two with a side of glazed carrots and added two sauces on the side bone marrow and bernaise. The meat was cooked medium to perfection(this dish is a timed dish 40 mins wait) it was worth the wait. The little roasted potatoes were wonderful the sauces were on point but best of all it came with the best Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever had fill the hole of it with the most delicious gravy from the pan dripping we ordered more of the gravy too yum, the carrots were awesome as well. If in London stop by it is FAB

Beautiful restaurant situated right above Borough market. My sister made the reservation and made sure we got there at the exact time. We got seated towards the back since we had a toddler. At least we were close to the kitchen where we could check them out. I know a few of us ordered fish and chips and I can’t even remember what I ordered. Might’ve been some sort of poultry. I have to give them a thumbs up for their service. There was a waitress that totally took a liking to my toddler and really made him feel special. There was also a musician that night and the kid was swaying to the music. The ladies at the front also gave him a balloon while we were leaving. While the food might not have been so memorable, their service definitely stood out.

It’s well situated, but service is lacking and the food is about average for its class while the price is above average. Food: had the braised pork belly with whipped potatoes. The belly was unctuous and slightly herbaceous with a crunchy, chewy skin. The fish & chips were pretty standard. Service: we didn’t have reservations for lunch so we waited at the bar while tables started opening up around us. When we saw they weren’t being filled, and the hostess hadn’t notified us that a table was available, we asked again and were seated a few minutes later and given menus. The menus were blank. So we asked for menus with actual menus which were quickly provided. Thereafter service was fine, nothing memorable or outstanding. Overall, the food and service value didn’t match the price tag.

I wish I could actually review the food here, but they set up reservations for times they aren’t actually OPEN!!! Thanks for ruining our Sunday dinner, Roast!

For our anniversary, my partner and I decided to try Roast, nicely located in Borough Market in London Bridge. We arrived about fifteen minutes early for our reservations, and much to my surprise, they took us early. We were seated next to a window overlooking the market, but a little close to the table next to us, but that’s a minor quibble. After looking through the menu and their extensive wine list, I settled on the rib-eye and my partner had the pork belly. The waiter was nice and pleasant and even suggest a perfect wine to compliment his pork and my rib-eye(white for him and red for me). The waiting for the waiter and the food did not feel all that long given how busy they were at the height of Friday night dinner. As the food arrived, it was presented simply, but very nicely. The rib-eye I had was cooked perfectly and still very moist and juicy. Didn’t quite care for the béarnaise sauce that accompanied it on the side, however. For dessert, I opted for the chocolate pudding with home-made salted caramel ice cream with their suggest dessert wine pairing. The pudding was soft and moist and the chocolate inside deliciously spilled out. The ice cream was heavenly and the wine paired nicely with the meal. All in all, it was a great experience with wonderful food. A bit on the pricey side, but it is well worth it. Minor quibble at the end though, was it seemed like there was mysterious menu options that weren’t on the menu(unless I was reading one thing and expecting something different). Unless there were different circumstances with those offerings, it is slightly disappointing as the couple next to us had a dessert I would have liked to try, but I am still very happy with everything I had and am looking forward to my next visit.

Desserts came not only with recommended dessert wines, but with recommended cocktails. I’m not very good at daytime drinking, but you can guess how I feel about matched cocktails… Full review on

My parents and I wanted a cup of coffee and a place to sit in the hustle and bustle of Borough Market, and we mistakenly took Roast for a café. Luckily there was a table available even though the place was packed. We really just wanted coffee so we ordered a French press, but we felt too guilty to take up a table in this fancy place without having any food. My parents shared the fish and chips, which was probably the most expensive fish and chips that I’ve ever laid eyes on. Unfortunately the fish was a bit bland and could have used a bit more salt. But not dry at all and great batter. My charcuterie plate was lovely, absolutely no complaints. I also got the Orange Bombshell which consists of «Roast gin, Mandarin Napoleon liqueur, Kamm and Son’s ginseng liqueur, Grand Marnier, lemon curd, and orange juice shaken and served on a frozen orange.» It was a delicious drink, but the presentation seemed a little. juvenile? The description does mention that it comes in a frozen orange, but a small plate or shallow cup would have been nice as the orange kept staining the table. As others have mentioned, it’s expensive but the service was great and you get a nice view over the market.

Delicious full English and Eggs Florentine on a Sunday although it was nothing special. I’d like to come back to try the lunches or dinners but it’s a bit expensive for what it is. The staff weren’t very attentive which was a little disappointing.

The restaurant is nice and airy. Live music when we were there but a bit loud. The food and service was average and really nothing to write or complain about. But this place really is not that cheap. For an extra 10GBP, you can get a much nicer roast at The Grill at The Dorchester for its Sunday Roast in the amazing dining room. Not a terrible place if you are in the neighborhood and want roast. But at this price point, I almost feel like it should be a special occasion and we probably won’t be coming back here if we are in the mood for the roast.

Apparently the British love beef, particularly for lunch on a Sunday. As I love beef, and brunch. eating Sunday Roast in London was on our to do list during our visit. We wanted to try ‘Roast’(what better place for Sunday Roast than a restaurant that’s named«Roast) after seeing it featured on the Food Network. It is located above Borough Market, and you have to take an elevator up. The restaurant is contemporary and spacious — it felt upscale and polished. Our group made reservations for 11:30am a week in advance for a table of 3 and were seated promptly when we arrived. However, once the server came by, we were told, rather rudely, that lunch isn’t served until noon and to just come back in 30 minutes. We weren’t sure what to do, so we kind of just sat there for 30 minutes while no one checked up on us. It was rather difficult to get someone’s attention, but once someone came by around noon to take our orders, all the three of us decided to go for their Saturday special Beef Wellington, a bottle of champagne, and Yorkshire pudding as a side. The Beef Wellington Special was a whole fillet of beef covered in pastry accompanied by three large roast potatoes. They never asked how we wanted the meat cooked, so the beef was tougher than what I would’ve liked. However, the roast potatoes were great, and the Yorkshire pudding was light, which I used to mop up the juices of the meat. At these prices(£25−30 per entrée) for Sunday Roast, I’d expect to be getting superior service and food. However, service was erratic and not friendly — the waiters had no interest in what they were serving or what we wanted. Food is only average — nothing to rave about. Unfortunately the bill automatically included a 12.5% Service charge. Will be looking for Sunday Roast elsewhere the next time I’m in town.

When ever we go borough market we always get a pork sandwich from the Roast hut so nice melts in mouth, tasty and the crackling sot juicy and crunchy. Also have eaten in main restaurant as well and again food very tasty, you get a big portions for your money and the staff are very friendly highly recommend

Made a reservation well in advance of the trip to London for Roast and was completely impressed with the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Great location for the restaurant, right above borough market. Loved the ambience inside though it was a bit loud as we were seated right next to the kitchen. All in all, each of the 3 courses were delicious. Very pricey but worth the money and the trip.

It’s above borough market and it was a great experience. The staff was accommodating towards us and continued refilling our water. The food was brought out in a timely manner. The food was expensive but it was worth it. The meal was filling and tasted great. It’s definitely worth going to.

This spot in Borough Market is fancy and has really snobby hostesses which is never a nice thing. They forgot one of our appetizers, and didn’t understand a modification request(we went for brunch and I asked for fried eggs instead of poached). But my salmon and egg poach was good otherwise. I also ordered dropped scones not realizing that those aren’t scones at all, but more like pancakes(fail!) which were served with stewed fruit(I am not a fan of these — I prefer fresh). The décor feels corporate but there are nice big windows and views of the market and surrounds.

I had a very nice lunch at Roast. I had the Roast Ripley Castle redleg partridge with creamed Brussels sprouts, wild boar bacon and chestnuts. This was very tasty. The sauce was delicious and went well with the partridge. We ordered some sides too(purple sprouting broccoli which actually wasn’t purple and spinach). The slight downfall the meal is the indifferent service. It’s nothing awful but no one came to refill our water glasses or asked if we wanted more wine. Great views of Borough Market though and definitely worth bringing friends visiting from out of town. Try and get a seat near the window. We sat in the bar and it was quite spacious, given all the other complaints about crowded dining areas in previous posts.

Good food for the price, but poor poor service. Shortly after we finished our meal(starter, main course, and dessert), the waitress came over and asked us to free up our table while half of the restaurant was empty.(We didn’t go cheap either, our bill was around 230£ for 3 people.)

We made reservations a day or two in advance and came here for lunch on a weekday. Got seated immediately and we were served bread and butter. After perusing the menu, we ordered pork belly, chicken and mushrooms. The pork belly comes with apple sauce and I normally don’t like anything sweet with meat. So they accommodated my request to bring the apple sauce on the side. The chicken and mushrooms dishes were good. Pork belly comes with a side of mashed potatoes and was really delicious! The portion size was big, so couldn’t finish the entire dish. Didn’t even have space for dessert. Highly recommend this place.
