Had a three course lunch. Potted shrimps made me feel a bit sick and tasted way too fishy for my liking. However the muscles were cooked to perfection. For mains I had the wild mushroom risotto which was delicious. I couldn’t finish it all. Had two cheeky deserts: Apple and blackberry crumble and blueberry crème brûlée. But crumble defo wins. This is a cosy unpretentious place. Only negative was that my waiter didn’t really tend to my needs, they didn’t check if I needed a refill or come when I wanted to order extras hence why I spent two hrs here when really I just wanted to eat and go. I’m not sure if it’s worth the money but the experience was nice.

Good food done really well. I came here for lunch. My friend and I both had the chicken/ham/“leak” pie, which was glorious. The ambience was nice and the staff were wonderful.

Great food, wonderful location, but the best part was the amazing waitstaff. They not only«put up» with our toddler, they welcomed her and made us all feel very comfortable. We will return again soon and enjoy another meal with our new friends at Rivington. Thank you.

Went here with some colleagues after a conference. Seems like a good upscale dinner place, the steak was delicious and it was certainly an enjoyable meal. The fresh bread was a standout, too, and the drinks were good(the bar there has a very large selection of gin).

Confession: I was a bit broke when I came here and so ended up having the burger and I sort of regret it. Don’t get me wrong — it was a good burger, but compared to the steak every other person on the table had(bar one veggie)? I’m not sure it can stack up. This isn’t to say that Rivington is overpriced — it’s not cheap by any means but it’s no more expensive than the other steak houses in London. That said, it was very good and the sides we shared as a table were all great. The rest of the table raved about their steaks and it did all look pretty impressive. The veggie in our group was a bit disappointed with the one veggie option on the menu not available and the replacement a lackluster tomato and vegetable dish. Obviously you don’t go to a steak house for the vegetarian options but still. Others have mentioned the slow service — I didn’t notice this particularly but we were a large-ish group and they made sure to keep the wine flowing so who knows? Staff were all friendly regardless. Overall, it was a good evening. If I ever go back I’ll make sure it’s the right end of payday and have the steak…

As with other reviews the service is incredibly slow. It seems that under new management the restaurant has gone from a great place for good English/British food like a good Sunday roast, to a very poor establishment. The air conditioning is always too high and it is like being in the Antarctic. When I went, the staff seemed to be more concerned with preparing the restaurant for the dinner service rather than waiting the tables with customers. My roast beef was overcooked and they were unable to offer me an alternative or replacement. The food took a very long time to come out and overall it was a very disappointing experience. I would definitely think twice about going back here again. If you want a good place in the locality that does good British food, go to Chapters All Day Dining in Blackheath. Very good and is my replacement for the Rivington

Headline: Clams or Fish and Chips — you won’t go wrong We were visiting all the touristy goodness that Greenwich has to offer, but didn’t want to eat right at the tourist destinations, so we picked the Rivington Grill. It’s a couple of blocks away from the major tourist attractions. When we arrived for lunch, it was almost empty, but filled quickly. They have a nice patio area, but we sat inside, right next to the Window. The weekend bought an open-air market just outside with an incense vendor adjacent to the patio area. I was starving for a British classic — fish and chips with mushy peas. If you have not had this classic, then it’s well worth the try. The fish is nicely cooked and not greasy. It also actually tastes of fish, which is usually the major failing. The chips were nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the center. They had a side of tartar sauce that was obviously made in-house, tinged slightly green. Finally, the mushy peas were absolute heaven. My sister had the clams — three clams on the half-shell, covered with sauce and bacon and cooked to perfection. While in England, it’s important to remember that you get the option of sparking or still bottled water — opt for tap water as it doesn’t cost extra. Alternatively, buy a half bottle of the Rioja Rosada — a rose Rioja that is light and refreshing and more resembles a white wine in taste.

Meh. I was really hoping when I moved to Greenwich this would be my go to spot for delicious slightly upscale food but the few times I’ve been here its been not bad but not very tempting either. The parent company of this resto also owns the Ivy which I really think is way over priced and over popular for what it is, so likely my impression of the Ivy does rub off on Rivington. Either way its all about the food and I’d rather head over to Cote in Blackheath or the always lovely Guildford Arms.

Slooooooooooooooooow! But very very good. Although I like some activities to follow that tempo, I find eating(even brunch) to be one that I wouldn’t mind being a little more allegro. I was absolutely starving and quite desperate for food(it had been at least two hours since waking and my metabolism demands protein within about 10 minutes of rising). The waiter was quite lucky that I didn’t start gnawing his arm. When it finally appeared, the food was delicious(the coffee was cold, but I simply had lost the will to care) I had bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and toast. It was lovely! It would have been lovelier 30 minutes beforehand, but I suppose you can’t rush genius!

I loved my dinner here! I used my taste card which gave us 50% off(if I remember correctly), but do check their website because they do offers on there too. We had a lovely romantic window table with a candle on the table. Bread was served to us as soon as we sat down and we were offered a choice of water(sparkling, still, or tap water) which I loved as I always order a glass of tap water and I liked that it wasn’t a problem here. The cocktails were amazing and they had some cool brands of cider that I also tried. We had squid to start, which was cooked perfectly. I had a burger with chips and my boyfriend had roast chicken with potatoes for our mains. Overall it was lovely, and if we wasn’t in a rush to make our film I would have loved to try a desert. Overall, a wonderful meal with great service. It loses one star because the table cloth was made of paper and we had paper napkins. When your paying this kind of money I think they could provide linen! X

The best restaurant in Greenwich. Fact. I went here one afternoon with three friends before going next door to a movie at the Picturehouse. If we hadn’t have had our Taste cards it would have been expensive but thankfully because of those little beauties we experienced a delicious meal for a great fraction of the meal. The food and wine was lovely, service attentive, quick and friendly and I would definitely return.

Turned up without a reservation and was certainly well welcomed. Unfortunately the service went a bit downhill after that. Not sure if they were short staffed but after getting water and some great bread we didn’t see anyone for about 15 minutes. After the meal it took a long time to get the bill and we had to ask twice. Despite this the service between courses was good and swift and the food was good. It may have been an off day, but we did feel a bit abandoned. Would go back to see if the service improves as the food was good enough to warrant it.

Wonderful little restaurant in Greenwich, if a wee expensive. My fish and chips was delightful, and the minted mushy peas were a nice touch– as well as the local brew, which was delicious. I’d like to return for a lengthier meal. As it was, we were in a rush to get to the O2 for a concert. Wonderful atmosphere, high attention to service. Well done.

I went here between two Sunday films a few weeks back, and it would have been on its way to five stars had I not done something similar a week later and been blown away by Market in Camden. Beautiful airy restaurant with a gentle buzz, a great menu, and some interesting beers and wines. I started with oysters(you have to love a place that has more than one variety and sells them individually, so I get to taste them without robbing a bank). I then had Lamb Henry. Now, I suspect I might not be alone here, but I had no idea what Lamb Henry was(and, to be honest, the waitress wasn’t much help) and when I Googled, third on the list was this place which made me laugh. It’s a slightly unusual cut of the shoulder(I think) if you’re interested. Anyways, it was pretty damn good. So, Market trumped this place(and the only reason I am comparing is because they felt like they were both going for the same kind of thing) both because their roast beef beat Rivington’s lamb, but also because their waitresses really know their stuff about the menu. I always think briefly your waiters is such an easy thing to do, and makes such a massive difference. But still, it’s well worth a visit, and I’ll definitely be going back to give it another go(and of course there are still more oysters to try).

With Blackheath flooded with chains and overpriced delis i’ve recently turned to Greenwich in which to find new eateries. Having been to the cinema next door earlier in the day, the Rivington Bar and Grill took my fancy. Though the door is almost impossible to find i’m glad i stuck with it because the food is scrumptious. Once inside you do have to fight through a maze of yummy mummys’ prams but once the buggy jungle is conquered you emerge into a simple, yet nicely decorated restaurant on two levels. Based around the concept of neutral palettes and decking i immediately feel like i’m in a tradtional fish restaurant. Indeed, the Rivington is known for its oysters in particular, but you’ll find the menu suitably gourmet whilst still offering variety at affordable prices. It’s traditional fayre but with small embellishments, such as unusual ingredients in the chicken stuffing(sage, onion and LIVER?) or a different take on side dishes(3 different coloured carrots boiled in the bag). It makes the food more colourful and flavoursome than i would have anticipated. Two things in particular to note. On arrival you are given warm freshly baked bread with butter. At no cost! It’s a genius way to start and a clever way to stamp your signature as a restaurant of quality from the very beginning of the meal. On the flip side, i heartily recommend the chocolate mousse for dessert. More of a chocolate pot than mousse, it is huge, rich, covered with chocolate shavings for an extra interesting texture, and a great excuse to share(flirt) with your guest for the evening. SECRETTIP: Take your iphone. The staff, though attentive and friendly, never seem to know what’s in each dish. Not handy if eating with someone with sever allergies, so take your iphone so you can look up what you’re eating!

In SE London, this is as good as it gets in my book. We wandered in on New Years Eve expecting to be turned away and, instead of a «You are so unprepared… why didn’t you make a reservation» reaction, the host asked around and worked to squeeze us in. He was lovely. Our waitress didn’t rush us and even brought us two rounds of their AMAZING hot fresh bread that greets you on arrival. My appetizer, The Smoked Mallard Pâté, was one of the best starters I have ever had… and I’m coming off of 9+ years of New York restaurants and others around the world… it was AMAZING!!! The meal was beautiful(see my image of the ½ Chicken) and my cheese plate at dessert completed what was a perfect meal. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for the food, scene(bustling but not obnoxiously loud), and pleasant staff. I will definitely be going back! The Ginger cocktail on their drinks menu(can’t remember the proper name) was also amazing and I recommend if you are there ;)!

We had our Christmas dinner there yesterday. The service was good, but the food was rather boring and fairly tasteless. 3 course Christmas menu for £29.50. As to the toilets — 3 cubicles, 2 without a lock… Not sure I will bother to go back.

I’ve lived in Greenwich for 3 years but this is the first time I’ve tried Rivington. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed, the waitresses were friendly and professional and the food was great. This and Inside are by far the best restaurants I’ve been to in Greenwich. I’ll definitely go back, the breakfast menu looked great too. 2 course meal for 2 with a bottle of wine for £60.

Those of you who venture here regularly will now that I’ve been sick recently. This morning was my first adventure out of the house this week(yay!) and I braved still not feeling great to come here for breakfast and see off a good friend before they flew back to Aus. I figured if I was going to drag her to Greenwich, I better take her somewhere nice. And I also had an eggs benedict craving. I don’t know why I’ve never been here before. It’s a nice place, really nice actually. Friendly staff, just on the right side of pleasant and funny. Not annoying considering we were the only people in here(it’s a bar, we were there at 10am as soon as they opened). I imagine it’s busier at the weekends. But here’s the thing: It didn’t feel empty. Eggs ben was brilliant. Our mushroom sides were very tasty. Luscombe drinks will always make me happy. Giddy, actually. Small EB was £5.75 and just right. Really tasty, fresh hollandaise with a tang(not too salty though). Yep, I was happy. Our bill was wrong(they didn’t charge us for our drinks), and when we corrected them, they gave us coffees on the house for our honesty. I like it here. The only thing stopping me from giving it five stars? I think my timings would be off for brunch things(although they do other menu things too, I want more EB). It’s empty during the week, but I bet it would be packed to the rafters at the weekends. I’ll come back when I can though, it’s yummy here.

The Rivington Bar & Grill is one of Greenwich’s more upmarket restaurants and therefore more on the expensive side. However, if you are looking for great food with a more relaxed and chilled environment then I would recommend Rivington be on your list of things to do when in Greenwich. And after you have an awesome meal you can catch a flick at the Greenwich Picturehouse which is right next door.
