Poundland

Im Poundland, der britischen Variante der Euro-​Shops, ist der Name Programm: alles für’n Pfund! ;-)
Für mich war die Shepherd’s-Bush-Filiale vorgestern Retterin in der Not. Beim Verlassen des Hotels riss mir der Schnürsenkel, auf dem Weg zur U-​Bahn gab es aber keinen Laden, in dem ich Ersatz kaufen konnte. Ich versuchte mein Glück im Poundland — und wurde fündig.
Insgesamt gab ich 6 Pfund aus. Der Laden führt derzeit auch DVDs von Monty Python übers britische «Shameless”-Original und «The X Factor» bis Ricky Gervais (einige sind gebraucht, sehen aber aus wie neu). Und ich konnte auch einen weiteren D-​UK-​Stromsteckeradapter gut gebrauchen. Bei meinem letzten Besuch kaufte ich dort die Hörbuchversion der Autobiografie von Sharon Osbourne, Ozzys leidgeprüfter Ehefrau.
Unter den paar Billigläden, die ich kenne, ist dies einer der angenehmeren — sauber und modern, also erfreulich «unramschig». Die vier Punkte gibt’s fürs Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis.

Ever since this shop opened in our neighborhood, I’ve been a regular customer, visiting the place at least once a week. Unlike other One-​Pound shops that I’ve been to, this one is clean, organized and have an awesome variety of products! The products really run out quickly so you have a constantly changing range of products with the basic items always in stock. I’ve never seen it empty and often always have to line up in queues, not annoying queues though because they have many check-​out cashiers. The only concern that I’ll warn you about is your overspending! Yes, it is a one-​pound shop and for this very reason you often end up buying things that you don’t really need! Also, sometimes many of their ‘too good to be true’ products are of very low quality, so not unless you know the brand (they do sell good brands sometimes) I wouldn’t advice you to buy because they will either prove to be of poor quality or you will end up using it up more quickly than a regular product (such as the case in cleaning detergents etc).
What I also love about their products is their changing season themes, for example, towards Spring you’ll see a whole section dedicated for Gardening and towards Summer they now have a section for BBQ products. It is really neat! You should pay it a visit :-)

Poundland. Everything’s a pound. But everything is worth a pound or less, so it’s not like you’ll get a Tiffany necklace for a quid.
Every branch is always a shambles, probably because when everything’s a pound people have less respect for the products because they know they’re so cheap. This is not a particularly big branch so is maybe more messy than most. They cram everything in and the aisles are small so avoid if you have claustrophobia.
Tips: come here for branded toiletries — they have some things which you’d pay more for in Boots or Superdrug or the supermarket. Also, toilet paper — they do 6 packs for £1, which is cheaper than most other places.
Obviously this is after you’ve decided that you won’t lose all of your pride and dignity by shopping in Poundland.
Also a good place to pick up small gifts, stocking filler type things, like gadgets, sweets and toys.
