I just popped in for a light snack on my way out to Fluid, just down the road. I was seriously impressed with the aubergine tart. I could easily have eaten another but I was conscious that it must have a fairly high fat content. Nice service and lovely ambience. Would deffo return :) x

We were tourists for a week, staying down the street at The Rookery, and we loved this place. Every morning we stopped for a big cup of Americano & a pastry, and the lovely Francophones behind the counter were both friendly and helpful. It was a good place to hang out and chat, and to watch the foot traffic passing by Smithfield Market.

French style patisserie just outside Smithfield meat market. I popped in here as I wanted to get some pastries to take to my old colleagues at St Bart’s hospital just around the corner. The selection wasn’t as good as I had hoped and the cakes were a little expensive, although substantially cheaper to take out than eat in. It took quite a while to be served. The counter girl was making hot drinks for the lady in front of me, while another member of staff was just leaning on the edge of the counter. Worse still, it felt like everyone was trying to avoid eye contact. Now, I’m not adverse to a wait, I get that its unavoidable at times, but it’s just polite to be acknowledged. They have a few tables inside where a few people were enjoying a coffee and an early lunch. Probably not somewhere I would stop to eat in, but I have to admit that the pastries were very yummy!

Newly opened branch for Paul, the French patisserie and coffe shop chain. Friendly staff, great selection of french pastries. I ordered a large apricot tarte for a dinner party and it was fantastic. If you are near the Farringdon station, it’s a great spot for an afternoon snack. Haven’t tried the sandwiches yet, but do recommend the desserts and breads.
