Average pub filled with Canadian flags and sport team memorabilia. Staff were friendly, and they have some arcade games. I didn’t try any of the food, but didn’t see anything really Canadian on the menu.

The Maple Leaf is a Covent Garden staple and has been for decades. I visited on a Friday and was surpised it wasn’t as busy as I imagined ti would be. For the unintiated, the Maple Leaf is London’s only Canadian pub. It has lots of TVs showing footie or Ice Hockey, if you are lucky. They have a range of «Canadian» draft lagers(brewed in the UK) and bottled beers(possibly not). I recall about twenty years ago it had a vending machine with all sorts of weird things in it(paper underwear anyone?). That has long gone and although slightly suprised it wasn’t too full, it had a nice chill vibe and we could perch easily at the bar. However, the lighting was a bit bright for my taste(and looks). They do food but I haven’t tried it.

Came for a few beers and a rugby game. Place was packed, in and outside. Good vibe, fair prices, good people around us, and friendly staff. We have not tried the food nor went far into the drink menu. It was just convenient for the moment, easy to access and walk in. The street the bar is on, is full of bars, people and looks like one of those destination places to grab a beer with friends. For date spot while in the area, try Polpo restaurant in front of the pub. I will be back only for a Canadian related event, or if I am in the area.

The Maple Leaf is a fun Canadian bar located in the heart of Covent Garden on Maiden Lane. I’ve been there a few times for some beer and wings(both of which are delicious — especially the wings!), and let me tell you, the place is pretty popular. It’s quite big with lots of tables, making it a great spot for groups of people. Monday’s they offer an £8 special on a batch of 24 wings(normally priced at £12), which I highly recommend. The service at the bar, however, can be a bit slow, especially when they’re busy. However, I would most certainly come back and look forward to enjoying another batch of BBQ wings!

We went here for a drink on Halloween as a family. We had a Sleemans and a Moosehead IPA. My wife is Canadian so we all got our Canadian poppies. The table next to ours was a mother and daughter from Sault St Marie Ontario. The daughter was teaching in Dartford Kent UK and the mom wax over visiting. The only pity is the bar tenders were not Canadians although on on other occasions my wife and I have visited they have been. There is memorabilia like Oilers hockey jerseys etc. We like it. You are more likely than other places to meet Canadians as the High Commission is only round the corner.

So I’m giving this place 5 stars for the following simple reasons: — had space to sit on a Friday night — check — reasonable price — check — friendly people — check — good volume — check It really is a perfect place for some simple drinks and catching up with friends. Also had some yummy looking burritos.

Walked in, so happy to find a bit of home while visiting London. Staff was unfriendly. What made it worse was that two large customers approached me — they looked me up and down and asked me what I wanted. I told them that I was from Canada, living in the USA, and was happy to find a Canadian place. They looked at me and told me that«I’d have better luck at a pub down the street as the food is better». I felt horribly intimidated — a big part because I look very middle eastern, and felt as if I was being profiled. Justified or not, it was the most un-Canadian feeling an establishment could give me. I went outside to snap a pic to post on FB, where I met an employee who was smoking while sitting on the curb. She gave me a stinkeye. I told her I was from Canada and excited to see the pub. She disregarded me. Avoid here. It’s a bar that put up flags and pretends to be Canadian. Apart from the decoration, there’s no real«canadian» feel here.

It might not have all the Canadian beers, but it’s still a little taste of Canada right in London. I ate the«Maple Leaf Burger» which was really good, and they serve some delicious honey brown ale on tap(can’t recall the name). One of their bartenders at least is from Canada, so it adds to the authenticity.

This is in quite a convenient location for those people interested in a Canadian themed pub. The flag, the bear in a display case, the trophies and souvenirs one would usually buy when visiting the country, they are all here. The place has an old pub feel and on an early Sunday evening there were still at least 4 – 5 groups inside enjoying a drink with sports being played on the TV screens. Drinks were nothing too special, mostly American pints likes Coors etc. The barmaid was friendly but the atmostphere felt a bit too lacklustre. Perhaps they have more patrons during their wings nights etc.

Imagine myself, an American on safari in London finding such a gem, nay, Maple Leaf, amongst London’s finest pubs. Upon entering you are instantly transferred to Canada, in a place filled with hockey jerseys and hockey relics. The beers on tap also create a longing for the homeland; Moosehead, Labatt, Molson. It is a boisterous place, especially on a Friday /Saturday night. I give it a 3⁄5 star for an «Eh-ok» experience.

As a Canadian in London I love this place. The staff are friendly, they have Canadian beer on tap which you can get in pitchers, hockey is guaranteed to be on the screen when they can, and they did try to make a reasonably delicious poutine. Décor is a bit stereotypically Canadian, but that’s the point and the stuffed animals, banners and Canadiana on the walls are sure to cure anyone feeling a little homesick. Unfortunately this place is only a small bit of Canada here in London and it falls a bit short a lot of the time. Poutine should not be made with shredded mozzarella and even though their gravy was delicious the chips weren’t awesome. There is better poutine available in this city. The rest of the menu isn’t really Canadianised pub food, it’s just pub food. Moosehead and Sleeman’s are ok Canadian beers but nothing screams Canada like Molson Canadian. It’s not the best beer but it IS home. And it’s generally inexpensive, so I don’t understand why they don’t have it. Lastly, and others have complained about this recently, they’re poorly prepared for the number of people wanting to watch the Olympics there. They weren’t taking reservations for any of the games but then had to lock people who wanted to watch out. It should be obvious that a Canadian bar in a country filled with Canadian expats is going to be pretty busy during a grudge match game, and for the gold medal game of the national sport. Negatives aside this is a must for Canadians staying in London, because it really does feel like you’re sitting back in Canada for a little while you’re here. Also, as Canadians are a friendly bunch you’re like to leave for the night with a couple new friends and plenty of good memories.

My home away from home. I love the Maple Leaf! For a little piece of Canada in London, it does a great job. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It may be because they are all Canadians themselves. I love nothing more than hanging with friends and devouring a poutine and Moosehead. People complain about the poutine here as its not«authentic»(made with cheese curds, not common in Europe) but for what it is, chips, shredded cheddar and gravy… its great! The rest of the menu is not very Canadian at all. I brought my British boyfriend and the only thing I could say that was distinctly Canadian food was the poutine and Canadian beer. The rest of the food is very English. The boyfriend ordered something along the lines of «Canadian chicken». It was composed of flavour combinations I have never seen in Canada before, however he really liked it. I’ll have to take their word on the«Canadianess» of that dish, but apparently its pretty tasty. I think the décor of the Maple Leaf could use a little updating. However, it is still a very chilled out place to hang out and watch ice hockey when its in season. It always has Canadians, and because of that there is always a really chill vibe. On two occasions now, we’ve coincidentally run into other Canadians we have known from back home. Apart from Canada Day in London, where else can Canadians come together in London? The Maple Leaf is a Canadian gem right in the heart of London.

Popped in here last week after the man of steel première. I really liked this place. Its a great place to grab a few beers and is situated just behind Covent Garden. Somewhat of a hidden gem! There is a lot of Canadian memorabilia dotted around the place(it is called the maple leaf!!) and also a great selection of beers. A really nice pub with some great staff!

I went here a while ago with a Canadian friend as he was feeling a bit homesick and wanted a bit of a taste of home, otherwise I can safely say I’d have never have gone into this Canadian bar in the centre of London — a stones throw from Covent Garden and the Strand. There is a nice atmosphere, pleasant and relaxed, there seem to show an array of sports and the walls display a variety of memorabilia which my friend had a good old nose around at! I imagine that Canadians would find this a home from home and enjoy a visit here and it’s nice enough especially for somewhere different than usual.

A little piece of Canada in the middle of London, and pretty well executed too. I wasn’t the only Canadian there which is always a good sign and they have managed to make the place look and feel authentic. The food is really good and the beer is the usual Canadian mixture of blindingly good and absolutely p*** poor. If you’re stuck in Convent Garden and want to make some friends. Pop in and enjoy.

Oh the joy!!! I was on vacation in London over a weekend for my birthday and me and my friend stumbled upon this lovely place. Me being absolutely fascianted with Canada was uncontrollably excited! It’s a nice average pub that serves some traditional Canadian dishes as well Moosehead, unfourtanetly they did not serve Molson Canadian but I was too excited to care, there was hockey on the telly goddammit!!!

Enjoyed my stop here, popped in to watch an Arsenal match and found it a nice relaxed spot. It is a bit of a combination of British and Canadian — I’ve never been to a Canadian bar quite like this(nor British pub). One cannot complain really that they don’t exclusively pour Canadian beers or serve exclusively Canadian food, it is not in Canada for F’s sake. They do have poutine, enough said. Everyone is friendly and relaxed. Maybe there are a lot of Americans, but they would tend to be the ones most mistake for Canadians, so not all bad :-) Pop in, enjoy a football match or hockey game and ignore the hosers if any.

We went late-ish on a Saturday night. This was perhaps not the best choice. But The Maple Leaf was a fun end to a long night out. Not the nicest place, but not the worst either. The carpet is well-worn and stained with a great deal of Moosehead. The bartenders were a bit slippery with their fingers(one smashed a not-quite-empty bottle of red wine on the table, splattering the customers there — among other events of the night). But the drinks were cold and served up fast enough. Unfortunately some of the other patrons were obnoxious. And the women’s loos were less-than-clean. I call this all par for the end bit of a Saturday night in Central London. The Maple Leaf could do better, but I’d give it another go.

I’m at a loss for words. I’ve been to Toronto and Montréal — both fine cities, very friendly, quite beautiful, always a good time. But… Coming in here with a buddy of mine during a replay of the NHL All-Stars Skills Competition, well, if there was a record playing«O Canada» you would have heard a very loud scratch as it came to a screeching halt when we walked through the door. Not that we were the archetype stereotypical, bigmouthed Americans(which I always find unfair since I’ve travelled the world and deduced that EVERYONE sucks in their own little way), but there was something in the air that night, and it wasn’t the smell of Moosehead lager spilled too many times into the woodwork. And it wasn’t my Chara jersey, either. One and done.

Chouette!
