When jet lagged and hungry, Joy really can be a joy. After returning from a somewhat exhausting flight, to an empty flat and echoing fridge there comes a moment in every Londoners life when you must try the closest curry house to your abode. Joy happens to be mine. For £12 I got enough food to last me for 3 meals over 2 days. Not that the portions were huge, it’s just that I ordered a wide selection in my greedy piggy hunger and it wasn’t expensive at all. But as the others say, this is a pretty piss poor curry house. I can’t bring myself to 2 star it though otherwise when I go back in there again(which I know I will), I’ll be hanging my head in Unilocal shame.

Was it a Joy? Not really, I can get this type of Indian food anywhere in London. Was worth a try but I shan’t be back.

I don’t know whether it’s my bad luck but this place seems to be open at really odd times or not at all. Which is a shame since the few times I’ve actually got food from here it’s been yummy. Less stressful than trying to pick and then haggle a meal down the hell that is Brick Lane you can get your poppadom and passanda fix here for much less hassle

Sometimes I really fancy a good curry without wanting to go near the hustle & bustle of brick lane. For me, Joy is the ideal place. Five minutes away on Broadway Market, it’s a small, intimate restaurant, usually busy but I’ve never had a problem getting a table. The food was pretty good, not the best curry I’ve ever tasted, but its affordable, and you get free poppadoms which is a great touch. So if you’re in the area, and you’re not in the mood for haggling for cheap curry on Brick Lane, Joy is a good alternative.
