Great little local for a Sunday roast. The Yorkshire puddings are humongous and a very generous serving of vegetables. We ordered the lamb roast and the mint sauce was incredible. The serving of meat could be a little larger.

Possibly the rudest staff I’ve ever encountered in London. We arrived just before lunch to find that there were about 6 tables free in the restaurant and for it to be fairly quiet. We were ignored for a good five or ten minutes waiting to be seated. Firstly one girl finally came over and didn’t seem to have a clue what she was doing, having asked us if we’d like brunch or lunch — we were undecided — she decided to find someone else to see to us instead. He again asked the same question, received the same answer then was incredible rude telling us there ‘wasn’t enough tables to get us in and out quick enough’ — so despite there being loads of free tables, apparently we weren’t deemed good enough to eat there. They had really awful attitudes and were incredible unhelpful. Just avoid this place, there are so many more around the area with much nicer, more accommodating staff.

We ordered two Chargrilled Artichoke, Radicchio, Caerphilly & Honey(£7.50 each), a portion of the Scallops, Caviar, Shallot Purée & Blood Orange(£9.50) and two Potted Pork, Coleslaw & Crackling(£7.50) to share amongst us. These were all delicious! I tend not to order anything veggie, especially as a starter but the salad was stunning with plenty of flavour from the charred artichokes and a lovely dressing which balanced perfectly with the shavings of Caerphilly on top. The pork was juicy, flavoursome and came with a large shard of crispy crackling and the scallops were perfectly cooked but outshone by the silky shallot purée. On to the main course we shared two Pan Fried Plaice with Fennel Four Ways(£14 each), a Half Lobster, Wild Garlic Butter & Triple Cooked Chips(£24) and two Butcher’s Steak with Bearnaise(£14.50 each). The plaice was delicately cooked and worked very well with the various fennel textures, the lobster was as good I’ve had anywhere but steeply priced compared to the whole lobster for £20 I recently had at Lobster House. The steak was the stand out dish for me — cooked to a perfect medium rare and cut in to man size chunks with a velvety smooth, rich bearnaise to dip in to… It brought a big smile to our collective face. We also ordered a few sides, all of which didn’t disappoint — Broccoli, Purple Kale and a couple of portions of very good Triple Cooked Chips. All of this was washed down with a couple of lovely reds — a Nero D’Avola Caleo(£20.50) and a Pinot Noir d’Autrefois(£25).

One of my new favorite places in London. Steak was fantastic, cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese is a must. Chips and greens always run the risk of being drab but ours were excellent. The service was friendly and well-time. Great wine list too. Definitely recommend.

Great steaks. Fantastic service and a good wine list. Definitely worth a visit. I had the Onglet, she had the pie. Chips and jersey royals were perfect. The broccoli was over cooked but the puddings made up for it. There is a nice rum selection if you go to the bar and don’t bother with the list. Will definitely be back for sure.

Atrocious service. Way too fucking unjustifiably ‘cool’ relative to the quality of food and track record

Dalston is not known for its British restaurants. Turkish? Of course. But not so much British. But with the arrival of fashionable cocktail bars, gastropubs and a ton of hipsters, restaurants are appearing that fit with the image we have come to expect from the area. Jones & Son(what a great surname that is, I like it immediately) is great British food at fairly reasonable prices. Our food was delicious, the bar is well stocked and the décor very Bistroteque. The guy who runs it used to manage the Cat & Mutton and the wait staff appear to have been nabbed from there. The chef was trained at Bistroteque and he cooks in a white house within the restaurant. Apparently the roasts are amazing and over 100 people are booking every week. I’ve just been for Saturday brunch but am keen to go on a Sunday ASAP. The also have a fixed price menu if you go between 6pm and 7pm or after 9:30pm that looks really good value for money.
