Recently opened Gurkha’s Inn has carved out a little niche for itself by serving a combination of Indian and Nepalese food and positioning itself outside the Brick Lane blast radius. In fact, a decent curry is surprsingly hard to come by in this corner of the world. Reasonable prices, generous portion sizes and perfectly spiced dishes. Coupled with friendly service — I shall head back. EDIT: Also, in case it’s not entirely obvious, this is a review of the restaurant on Mare Street, not some hotel in Greenwich with the same name. I’m not quite sure why Unilocal is associating the E2 post code with Greenwich… And the Unilocal«customer support» team refuses to change it. Not very supporting of the customer there, folks.

eaten here twice now and will be coming back on regular basis — friendly, welcoming staff, calm and reasonably spacious atmos, amazing food. Complementary pomps and fresh pickles on arrival, very attentive service throughout and no problem to take your time to make your menu choices. My absolute fave is a dish cooked in coriander rather than basil which they simply call a ‘green curry’ and is available in lamb or chicken, gorgeous. Every dish has deep spice tastes and doesn’t taste fatty or oily. Yum.

My boyfriend took me to here on Good Friday, and after looking at some pictures of the restaurant that are on their website, I must admit i was slightly worried. Its down a side road and looks, from the outside like someone’s house, but once inside its pleasant. We had grilled salmon and butterfly prawns for starters which we couldn’t stop ‘mmmming’ over, and then the mains came out, loads of it. Phewa Machha(cod curry) for myself and Gurkhas’s Special Biryani for my partner. I finished mine but my boyfriend got a doggy bag and took what he couldn’t finish home. Staff were very friendly, but the only downfall was no desserts were offered, which I would of had, although in hindsight perhaps best i didn’t. This was made up however with complimentary shots when we got the bill. And to top it off this only came to £48.00. Brilliant!
