Very inviting little place that oozes comfort food and warmth. After a warm welcome, I sat at a window table and was promptly served olives and bread — big doorstops of freshly baked loveliness. I ordered the avocado & prawn starter, fish pie and a glass of rose. The service was friendly and efficient and my enquiry about mussels in the pie handled quickly and courteously. The fish pie was light and devoid of all the cream and butter you might expect. The fish was the star with a solid supporting cast of smooth potato(complete with crispy top), dill and chives. The French guy at the next table was clearly relishing the escargot — quite the endorsement! For dessert I had the chocolate & brandy mousse. It looked huge, but miraculously it soon disappeared. I don’t usually go for chocolate but this was worth making the exception. The bill came to £33 including a 12.5% service charge which is great value — anywhere, not just in London. A great experience made even more so as I was dining alone and hardly even noticed!

Do not say you are open until 10:30 yet deny service beforehand. This is the definition of customer«service».

Americans in London, staying on Gloucester Street. We were seated in the downstairs dining room. Small place. They had a hard time understanding what we wanted. Owner seemed hands on. Started with seared scallops and Potok and leek soup. Both were prepared well and very flavorful. Wife had lamb special which came with root vegetables and potatoe, she loved it and couldn’t finish it because it had too much meat. I got the chicken breast with cheese and asparagus but no starch included. Dessert was Eton Mess. All in all a good meal for a reasonable price although I was a little disturbed our waitress found us difficult to understand. We are from Boston.

It’s really a three and a half stars. Traveling on business. Was looking for a homey place serving typical British fare. Grumbles is the place. Seating is limited but there is also a basement with additional tables. I went there on a Monday evening but the place was jam-packed. Looked around and impression was that the patrons were mostly local(or at least not from out of country). Good selection on the menu. I ordered Avocado with shrimps as appetizer which was okay. Fish pie was quite good. Generous portion and lots of flavours.

More typical British, the atmosphere is nice and warm, the area is residential. The food is good and fairly priced. I had a fresh sea bass which was nice, good selection of wines, friendly staff

A humble and cozy dinner spot in Pimlico, good for traditional British fare. Our party ordered the fish pie, another fish dish, fish and chips, and chicken with cheddar cheese and asparagus(?). The last dish was… creative. The food was okay(a bit on the pricier side), but improved by the atmosphere of the restaurant. A solid choice for dinner if you are in the area.

Solid three stars. The atmosphere is lovely — a surprisingly cosy, nice place to sit and enjoy a leisurely meal. And I do mean leisurely — no one took our order for 40 minutes! And it took us about 15 – 20 minutes to order tea/coffee after our dishes were cleared. The food was good, not great. Well, actually — some dishes were great and others were pretty bad. It seemed very hit or miss; my scallop appetiser was delicious but overpriced(£9 for 3 small scallops), but my salad was pretty bad: it was slathered in a very strong mustard dressing to the point that I couldn’t taste anything else, with the exception of saltiness from the otherwise tasteless halloumi. My dessert(vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and almonds) was served very prettily and was rich and yummy. It was just a shame that my main was so bad. Other comments from my table included: «Well, a fish pie is a fish pie, so it was fine.» «My shrimp appetiser was amazing!» and«The crème brûlée was alright.» Basically, it’s not a place I’d seek out. but I also wouldn’t be against giving it another try if I was in the area. Just a matter of hit or miss on the dishes.

Super great tasty food. Quite a complex menu for the size of the place, small and cozy. Nice service too. Plates were fairly priced and portions were perfect sized. We’re out-of-towners staying with a friend nearby, came here with the wife who is American and shocked to see that nearly every customer in there was American too. Bizarre.

I’m an American who was staying in the Victoria area recently. This is a nice little gem in the Pimlico area, and we were quite happy with the food, service and ambiance!

We were looking for a place to eat in the Pimlico area. Our goddaughter’s had been to Grumbles and gave it a two thumps up! We will agree it! We ordered the chicken salad and the fish and chips and were not disappointed! The setting is intimate. It was full when we got there but seating cleared as the evening went on. It’s nice to just sit and enjoy a meal and leave when you’re ready. Another nice feature I didn’t want to forget to mention was the music. Playlist was a kind of Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin tribute. Very nice!

This place was nice, had good food, good service, and prices seem good for London(we spent £10−13 per person)

We are tourists from San Francisco area with two small kids. Would recommend. Went last night and place was warm and accommodating. Waiter was supremely nice. When we asked for taste of a wine we were considering a bottle of, he brought over three glasses of half filled wine so we could try all the offerings of that varietal. Lovely bread and olives complementary. They have an early bird 2 course for £10.and 3 for € 13. Super value. I had haddock, my husband the linguini. They were good, but not spectacular. All their dishes needed more oomph. But honestly it could just be that it’s English food! I can’t dock them for that. The mango sorbet and toffee ice cream were hits. Very nice night. Made child sized portion(and priced less) for younger child too.

Grumbles is a really nice, down to earth, home-away-from-home local eatery. Food is delicious, and definitely for me some inspirational mixes of herbs that left me wanting more. Staff is courteous and friendly and the small street off a main road is residential, so you can sit outside and not get bogged down by passing cars. Food selection was just right, both the heavy and the lighter stuff and the wine card was just as it should be. Matched the food in both pricing and taste. I almost don’t want to recommend it, because that’ll make it more difficult for me to get a table ;)

Went to charming Grubmles. So intimate– and food is so hearty. It was very satisfying. The workers are very nice people and informed me you can bring your own wine on Mondays!

My wife and I ate dinner here on our first day in London and had a great time. The restaurant is very cozy and inviting, with nice seating in the restaurant and outside on the sidewalk. The food was delicious; everything from the first glass of wine to the last cup of coffee. We had the grilled goat cheese, scallops, sea bass and lamb targine; all fantastic. For dessert we had a special strudel with ice cream, which was a great finish to the evening. Portions were very fair for the price and the quality was outstanding; I highly recommend Grumbles.

After a very long day of navigating the London Underground, Portobello Rd, more underground(how dare they close the line we need on the day we’re here?!), a nice quiet dinner was very much needed. Enter Unilocal. The very first restaurant I looked at was Grumbles. A short walk from our hotel, check. Review/, positive. ££ = «moderate price», and so off we go. It really IS a 5 minute walk! At 7:30PM we were fortunate to get the last 2 topper table although I’m assuming there’s a back room because people went in and never came back out. I was still not quite ready for dinner, so I ordered the soup of the day, cream of broccoli and an appetizer, which was 3 large scallops on a bed of butternut squash and a top of pancetta. My husband ordered the rocket(arugula to us Americans) and Parmesan salad, and a lamb taggine dish. Everything came out piping hot, well prepared and delicious. We shared a crumble for dessert, raspberry and apple with a topping and then we poured cream over. Again, piping hot and positively delectable. After an insanely busy day eating crowds, figuring out the London Underground, and walking our poor legs into mere sticks, this quiet, well modulated dinner was just what we needed. In closing, we should have asked the reason this restaurant is named Grumbles. It should be «Compliments» because I’m sure that’s what everyone does who eats here!

I showed up a little after 10:00pm, I had not expected to go here however they were open and I was hungry! I had the Liver, Bacon and Onions, it was excellent. A side of mashed potatoes accompanied it. My mom used to make Liver and Onions, so I had some expectations, they exceed them. For dessert I ad a Sticky Date pudding with Custard and Butterscotch sauce. It was great, I’ve never had anything quite like it. The place was nice, there’s a downstairs however I didn’t see it. Some art on the walls, including a man that looks like he’s «grumbling», it made me smile. I would recommend a stop in here, they’re open a little later that the average place around which is a plus, but just on food alone it’s worth a stop.

I was here in July ’13 via a suggestion in Rick Steves’ London book… and as with all of his suggestions, Grumbles did not disappoint! Everything was wonderful– from the food to the service to the wine. Loved the quaint atmosphere and the overall experience. I’d highly recommend.

A hidden treasure. Just off the main road, this local spot has a cozy, intimate setting with tables close enough that you can keep yourself entertained by looking curiously at what other diners are eating. The service was excellent, and the waiters didn’t treat us out-of-towners any differently than the other patrons. I ordered the Goat Cheese and Chicken Liver and Foie Gras Parfait as appetizers, and they literally melt in your mouth with taste. The main entrée, the duck confit, was also good but the apps really stole the show. Good value with food that could be found in much more expensive restaurants.

Grumbles is a reliably good traditional British restaurant in Pimlico. I’ve been here many a time with work colleagues and it has never disappointed. They do a good value set menu(2 courses for around £12 I believe), the food is decent and the service friendly and quick. The interior is farmhouse-meets-church: the front door is thick varnished wood, with a mixture of benches that could have come straight from the pews of a nearby chapel. Thick candles add to the effect(there’s no incense mind! Or organ-playing) and on the walls are old black and white prints circa turn of the 20th century. The crowd tend to be predominantly older residents of Belgravia, with the occasional tourist and nearby office worker. Overall, a dependable spot to get lunch or dinner.
