This is a US style steakhouse in the Canary Wharf district of London. It prides itself on the American cuts of meat that it serves — mostly grain fed at that. As an American, I told the waiter to skip the US cuts as I can get them anytime in NYC or Chicago and show me what they had from the area — and grass fed. I got a grass fed bone in rib-eye from somewhere perhaps in Scotland — and wow! I’ve been to some damned good steakhouses but this was unbelievable. The meat was dry aged to perfection and cooked to bring out all the flavors. I told the waiter I’d give a review of this being the best restaurant steak I’ve ever eaten — so here it is for all of you! The side dishes were quite good though I thought the onions were a bit on the sweet side. The ambiance is very classy without being boringly stuffy. I was there for dinner alone on a Friday and got a seat near the bar easily — reservations are a must if you are in a party of two or more from what I saw. The crowd seemed to be workers from the district so it had a business dress atmosphere. There was no presence of a TV near the bar — a plus in my book. I hate the things in restaurants. The service was phenomenal given I was just a stray walk-in. I highly recommend this place if you want a great steak in London. I’d suggest you go for the grass fed selections from the UK.

Goodman is a very nice matured meat restaurant. The side dishes are quite good, especially the mac and cheese with truffles… The service is correct but every time a bit pushy. The wine may be good as well, but very expensive for the selection. This last point can be reviewed. Eric

Holy food baby. I haven’t had a really good steak since I left NYC, so this was a real treat. I came here for lunch with a vendor and I left so stuffed that my colleague and I had to waddle back to our office. It’s in a nice location, right on the water and close to all Canary Wharf offices, so I am sure they get quite busy for dinner as well. I had the prawn and lobster cocktail for a starter and normally I would shy away from that since I hate how everything is over-mayo’d here in the UK, but they actually nailed it with a very minimal amount of mayo. I could have just eaten that and been satisfied, but instead I trekked on to having a Nebraska grass fed fillet. The server asked me if I wanted US or UK meat and of course I went with the US. No offense, but our meat is just better. This fillet did not disappoint. When I cut into it my knife just glided through the beef. It was the perfect medium rare and I admittedly ate the entire thing. I was so full but it was so good that I refused to stop. To keep it semi-lean I ended up having some sauteed spinach and salad sides. The other diners had two orders of fries — one regular and one with truffle oil. I stole a few and they were good, but I’ve had better fries, so nothing to write home about there. The wine list was pretty vast and the by the glass Rioja was just right. I would definitely recommend coming here for a quality steak.

They offer a lunch takeaway service where you can pick up one of their legendary burgers. Just remember that this needs to be preordered before a certain time. Burger must be handmade, is perfectly cooked and manages to survive the trip back to the office in its special container, that’s if it lasts that long…(Visit — 05/06/2014 Lunch)

First time try Goodman. Ordered a medium rare ribeye. It’s a very good quality piece. I’m very pleased. The lobster starter is fresh and nice. Will definitely come back ! Thumb up !

My second 5 star place in London and kind of unexpected. Going to be living in one of the blocks of modern buildings at one of the quays for a few weeks i had to discover the area and Unilocal pointed me in the direction of my ground floor neighbours Goodman. The place is packed most of the evenings but I managed to book a table for two and we were welcomed and directed to a table promptly. We were then shown some of the pieces of meat that were served that night and a huge chalkboard with all sorts of cuts, sizes and types of meat. Boy I love meat and at Goodmans they know their meat! I ordered a 400 gr rib eye and was not disappointed, the meat was delicious, really tasteful and grilled very good. We loved the waiter who was very attentive and took his time to explain everything they offer and how it works and was also extremely social and funny without being there too much. Great value and quality, also really nice wines, but not the place to go for a cheap steak. Definitely a new favourite!

located in the Canary Wharf district this US style steakhouse is beyond compare. After a long day we took 12 employees and customers to this steak house. I was sceptical since a good steak is normally hard to find in Europe(living and working here for many years) I was very surprised that Goodmans had Nebraska beef that they wet and dry aged for 120 days. Wow. I was looking forward to a good steak in London. In Europe steak is often sold by the 100 grams so a conversion app is useful. Prices are high compared compared o the US but… it is London We ordered a bone in rib eye wet aged 120 days medium rare. Sides of mushrooms and steak fries. I must admit that we. The steak came out it was perfectly done and looked like it was fron any top notch US steak house. The Result Was As Good As IT Looked. One of the best steaks I have had in a while anywhere and that says a lot for the UK where beef was normally shoeleather tough and poor flavored. It truly was a perfect steak house meal all round. Great wine list, good choice of appetizers, perfect service, meat cooked exactly as requested and a busy ambiance. The place was busy and I know why — best steak in the UK! And I am a steak lover. if you like great beef go to Goodmans.

Great place to have steaks, very friendly staff and great food. Although, you have to pre order the Halal steaks 24 hrs in advance.

I work nearby in Canary Wharf and this is the place to go for steak. Larger cuts available on board and the sides(especially the mushroom) are to die for!

I went to Goodman with one of my American colleagues who was here for a short visit. I think it’s safe to say that we both loved the steak, service, and environment a lot. I am sure I will visit there again amd for sure I’ll bring steak lovers with myself.

If I’m allowed to choose where we go for a team/client lunch, I’ll usually choose Goodman. The service is always impeccable and the food is always delicious. I have to admit though, I’m a little biased. I generally prefer USDA prime over the grass-fed beef found in the UK. I’m okay that they are pumping the cows in the US with cheap corn feed to fatten them up. Why? I like my beef marbled with flavor. I tend to stick with the special cuts listed on the blackboard that they present to you prior to ordering. Avoid the lunch menu and go for the real steaks, because you need at least 350g for a NY strip or ribeye to ensure thickness and temperature. The sides are all done family style and are large enough to share. You cannot go wrong with truffle mac n cheese, creamed spinach and an order of chips. Also, if you happen to work in CW, the best time to go is at lunch on a summer day. After being stuffed from inhaling a large slab of cow, you can slowly make your walk back to the office alongside the canal, enjoying the sun, avoiding the itis.

Well. It’s rare that Fiona and I are ever in London together on work. So given she was staying in Canary Wharf, we decided to have a meal out together & be sociable(despite working for different banks lol) This place came up with some good reviews from fellow Unilocalers & was literally a 5 minute walk down the river path from hotel. Google maps will not help you either. If you are ever here, it’s across the metal bridge from Herons Quay DLR station and the skyscrapers & then walk left along the water to the lights of the bars and restaurants. Really welcoming & it’s such a lovely interior décor. We literally did spend over 2 hours in here & the time flew by, as it’s so relaxed. Server came over with a huge chalk board of cuts available and prices, as well as the meat plate of cuts on offer. A lot of care and attention goes into this! On deciding to go with 2 fillets from USDA, she helpfully went through the wine choices & brought out 2 glasses to sample the Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both were absolutely delicious! Went with the Pinot though, as slightly lighter & better matched to let the steak flavour do the talking. For starters, we went for a tempura kind prawn on a bed of avocado… wow!!! So fresh & light that you could eat them by the bucket load! A 15 – 20 wait later, the steaks arrived & look amazing. Only. this is a running theme with me. Fiona & I normally always order the same cut/weight of steak. Hers always ends up being pretty much Medium as requested, but slightly to the medium rare camp, which is still fine for us both. I however, normally get the one place on my plate, cremated or in this case… completely rare in the middle! No exception to the rule, but rare is too much for me & I asked for it to be cooked up, as opposed to wasting a perfectly good steak having it re-fired. The manager, Ryan, quickly came over to apologise & said it wouldn’t be long. Fiona pretty much finished her steak by the time it came back(with fresh sides I might add!). Good 8 – 10 minute wait. However, it was still pretty rare on one half & just tasted ‘gassy’ from the charcoal and convector oven. Lost all the initial flavour. Ryan came over to see how it was & I just called it quits, as no one really wants to eat separately or wait another 15 – 20 minutes for a steak. Ryan couldn’t be more apologetic & made it up to us with complimentary desserts and dessert wines to accompany the selections of white chocolate brûlée & baked cheesecake. I always say, sometimes you go to a place & just doesn’t work out. HOWEVER… it’s how the place deals with it that ultimately turns it around & makes you want to go back. This is such a place. They care they got it wrong & as our first visit, we were not left wanting for anything. Would I come back here, bearing in mind I would have to jump on a tube from Southwark to Canary Wharf & the roundtrip would be an hour? YUP! The steaks are simply some of the best I’ve had in the UK and the wine is amazing. Is this a cheap place? NO… You’re talking £12 for a starter, £9 a glass of wine & around £35−40 for a fillet steak, £7 for dessert. There is also 12.5% service charge added. Will you begrudge spending £100−150 on a meal here — NO again! You can order burgers, skip wine and dessert and enjoy a meal for £50−80 on the two of you. So checkout the menu & decide before you go. You Gotta STEAK This Place Out — FORSURE! :-D

Better than Hawksmoor and Gaucho methinks! Sides are awesome here. Truffle fries, truffle mac n cheese, grilled tomatoes were perfect accompaniments to our 15 quid lobster tails(which comes with butter and lemon), and meat. Their cuts change daily, so refer to the blackboard of cuts and prices they have available. We shared a 400 g of loin for about 30 quid. Meat was sooo tender and perfectly seasoned. They also have a good selection of wine and beer from all over the world. View is great too, right next to the water, and it was very easy to get a table the day of.

For a steakhouse the steak was impressive and some of the best I’ve ever had. But first I have to say their appetizers are incredible. We shared several dishes and devoured them so fast we had to hold back to order more. But it’s a good thing we did because the meat is filling and very tender… something which should be eaten slowly and purposefully. Every bite was amazing. We came here with a reservation which they forgot, so the manager took every measure to make us comfortable and relaxed with free wine. We really appreciated this because it make the whole experience from food to service worthwhile, and will definitely go back now.

We came here after work on a Friday because I was craving for a restaurant quality steak. We had heard good things about Goodman and our evening here did not disappoint. The steak was the hero of the night. We both agreed that each of our steaks was very nicely cooked, juicy and delicious. Something to savour. We are fans and we would definitely return. The service is friendly and thorough. The lady brought out a tray of the different cuts of steak and briefly described each of them, to help us make our choices. My wife had the bone-in rib eye and I chose the Goodman rib eye, which had more marbling. I prefer mine cooked medium and my wife prefers hers medium-rare. When we sliced into our steaks, we could tell that they were cooked just to our liking. We also had side dishes of truffle chips, fried fois gras and creamed spinach with gruyère cheese. These were ok, but not as good as the steak. I think we would order fewer sides on our next visit. We both had some wine during the meal. I had a nice glass of Malbec which went well with the big piece of steak. The total price was a touch over £120, but admittedly we had ordered quite a lot to eat and drink!

Day two in London and the time change was taking its toll. So I looked on Unilocal for something close to the hotel. Goodman was around the corner. A great steak, good chips and passable creamed spinach. Two glasses of Chianti and out the door for 72 pounds. I’m a fan, and the service was great, too.

As part of the search for the best steak in London(or really anywhere), I ended up going to Goodman’s Canary Wharf. Why so far east? Well they are doing a Californian wine special where all Cali wines are sold at cost. Yep, that’s right, you buy it for what they pay so a normal bottle retailing at £160 turns out to be around £45. Not too shabby. But let’s get to the meat. The steak is freakin’ awesome. Our group of four opted for a 700g Porterhouse(mix of sirloin and fillet) cooked medium rare and a 750g rib-eye recommended by our lovely waitress to be served medium. I confess, I was pretty apprehensive about going with the medium recommendation as I tend to eat my steaks medium rare to blue. I’m glad to be proven wrong as the medium rib-eye was a thick beast with a good amount of red showing in the middle. It was juicy with a charred salty crust and burst with such beefy flavour I was in love at first bite. I’m usually a sirloin fan, but that rib-eye converted me and I’ll be going for that next time without a doubt. The sirloin was tasty but a little over-cooked(for my tastes) and just fell short of topping that first bite of rib-eye goodness. The fillet was incredibly tender and perfectly grilled for that type of cut. This was the first time for me that«melt-in-your-mouth» truly applied to a steak. Needless to say, we would have been happy with just the steak but we also opted for a range of starters and sides, including a couple of free starters. At the point, I need to disclose that we were treated to some free dishes courtesy of a friend of a friend who happened to also be the manager. Unbeknownst to us, said friend had called his friend the manager and told him we were coming, hence the free food. That being said, I don’t think we got extra special service(well other than the tour of the kitchen and drying room), so the experience is a fairly valid one. Back to the food. Our starters including the lobster and sweet corn chowder, beef carpaccio, burrata with chorizo, and tempura tiger prawns with lime. As far as favourites, it was a toss up between the fresh crunchy tiger prawns with a light tempura batter and a refreshing lime and chilli marinade or the delicate lobster chowder. And yes, I fully mean delicate despite that rarely if ever being a term to describe a chowder. The slighty spicy chowder bordered on a bisque but managed to support the sweet notes of the lobster rather than overwhelming them. Talk about a perfectly balanced dish! Overall, an excellent experience with über knowledgeable and friendly staff, a great chat with the chef about the dry aging process, and, given that it came to about £60/person(based on what we ordered and not the surprise freebies), pretty decent value for money.

I like Goodman. The food is tasty, the atmosphere is nice and contrary to other reviews I think the service is pretty good. Burgers: Very good. But very pricey. You get a nice juicy burger that will be difficult to eat with your hands and will slobber sauce all over them, but you’ll wolf it down. The chips are also great, but as has been mentioned they could do with a little more salt, or something. Nando’s chilli sauce would go soooo well with these chips. The only problem is this will end up setting you back £20 with a drink easily, and there are plenty of other places nearby that are cheaper and at least as good. Byron and Gourmet Burger Kitchen immediately spring to mind. Steak: Well this is the real reason to go to Goodman but it can be hit and miss depending on what cut you get. You’re usually going to be ok but again as another reviewer said, you’re better off not going for the lunch menu. It shouldn’t be hard to cook a fine steak. I can do one myself at home, so it’s not really acceptable for these to be hit and miss, especially when there are again other places in the area that you could go to. Boisdale and Gaucho immediately spring to mind. I’m giving them 4 stars instead of 3 because of the cool quotes on the wall and the nice atmosphere. I’d go there again; the food is good enough and I’m only ever there for the company, which I can enjoy as the atmosphere is good.

I can’t give an opinion on the dine-in experience at Goodman’s, but I can on the takeaway burger, which is probably one of the best value in Canary Wharf. For £6, you can get a cheeseburger(awesome) and free fries(soggy) and a free can of drink. Pretty great deal, as the cheeseburger has a really juicy beef patty in between two interesting sesame buns and some vegetables. Apparently the burger isn’t as good as if you have it during a sit-down meal in the restaurant, but it tasted pretty good to me and beats having a cold sandwich from Pret that will set you back £3.50 by itself already.

I love steak. I love good steak. I’ve been eyeing Goodman Steakhouses for a while. I heard they had lobster mac and cheese. Meow, that sounds like the place for me. So when they opened a branch near my office, it seemed like fate. I would go to the ball. They had transformed the previous location into more of a gentleman’s club vibe, booths became tables, lots of dark wood and black and white photographs. But I was disappointed. I know, I know, maybe I am harder on new businesses than I should be. However, if you expect me to pay good money, then you can expect me to be particular. Let’s start with the good: beautiful bernaise sauce, fatty chips cooked, presumably, in fat, hmmmm. Cool butcher tables and an awesome selection of meat on display. The bad: service, a bit snarky and they didn’t know how to make a Gibson martini, I expect places like this to know their drinks. The ugly: a steak that was more fat than meat. This Goodman is new, so I’d definitely pay another visit. I wouldn’t order off the lunch menu. In steakhouses, it’s always a mistake to try and scrimp on your order. Just throw down the big money and order decadently. A hearty red wine, the best steak you can afford and blow out on the sides too. I’ll be back Goodman. Be ready.
