We found Frank’s from Unilocal which had posted excellent reviews and it exceeded our expectations! People might describe jt as a greasy spoon but that would be to do Frank’s a great injustice. Its popularity means that it can be a tight squeeze but the staff are extremely helpful in meeting your seating requirements and the clientele just as friendly. We wanted ‘full fries’ with differing requirements: the orders were taken quickly and the breakfasts turned up soon afterwards miraculously. With lovely buttered toast, the breakfasts were mouth watering with a wonderful taste. They were the best fried breakfasts we have had for a very long time. For such a treat they were exceptional VFM — thank you Frank and staff.

Good food, excellent prices, and fast service during even the height of lunch hour. An old fashioned, no frills, neighbourhood shop with the basics done well.

This is a great place to come for an English fry up. It’s busy, and that’s a good sign with a regular stream of locals coming through the door. The food is cheap too; eggs, chips and beans with a cuppa for less than a fiver. There’s tables to sit at, but the entrance is squashy with everyone coming and going. Good local food at a great price. I’m sold(and full). Word of warning: cash only, but the ATM is just around the corner at Sainsbury’s.

I really, really liked it. I work just around the corner and their liver with potatoes & carrots(which were then substituted by cabbage and peas) was delicious! And for only £3.70 I got a delicious and nutirious lunch. My co-worker told me it’s a greasy spoon place — but it really is not — you can make it as healthy or as unhealthy as you want. True, it’s not fancy inside — but the people behind the counter are nice and come on — it’s very cheap. For a £3.70 lunch — I’m going back there again — to check out their salads.

A no fuss, British version of a greasy spoon. Cheap yet filling meals — I had a lunch yesterday of a fried egg sandwich and a cup of tea for £2.50 — served at old looking tables surrounded by locals. It feels like an authentic bit of London, somehow. The staff is really great, too. I didn’t realise it was cash-only, but they were really kind about it. I was directed to the nearest cashpoint and when I got back, they had me skip the line and pay; a different person was manning the register but he knew exactly what I’d ordered and immediately told the kitchen to make my sandwich, since I was back. And let me tell you, that was a darn good fried egg sandwich. And a great cuppa. Despite the lunchtime crowd, I didn’t feel rushed and and was able to enjoy my lunch break. I’ve just started working about a 10 min walk away, so will be visiting this place often! One thing to note, is that if you’re there during the lunch rush they do not allow you to sit at a table if you aren’t eating.

This place is immense. A proper café, super value and good portions(Sirloin Steak is around £5!) I had a Large Jacket Potato and I kid you not it was the size of a half a newborn child. That with coleslaw, cheese, beans and a bottled drink came up to £5.70. If you have an appetite this is the place for you. Bear in mind, super busy at lunch but absolutely worth a visit, particularly if you have tourist friends. The staff are polite and despite the general lunchtime rush provide service with a smile. How many places can claim that. You’ll normally have the tennis as it’s summer or news on the TV. Can’t say fairer than that.

A really charming place, perfect to sit and relax while having a cup of coffee. You get great quality and in the same time it is one of the cheapest places around. Moreover the staff there is just perfect. They make sure to leave a great lasting impression in each of their customers.

No fuss, just good, filling, food! It’s not much to look out, but expect wholesome, qualily food at a very reasonable price with friendly staff! There are so many options to choose from and so far I’ve found nothing I haven’t liked. This makes this one of my top lunchtime destinations.

A proper greasy spoon café. Good for breakfast + lunches. Best for their cooked food, pasta, chips, omelette, pies, cooked breakfast plus sandwiches etc. Really friendly staff and great value. Difficult to really spend over £4. Popular with taxi drivers and the currently massive population of local builders around the Southbank/Blackfriars

I just had to add this to Unilocal as I really rate it as one of the few original Lan-dan(London) cafes. For £2 you can get something really tasty for breakfast: bacon and egg sandwich for example, bit greasy but seriously good value. For £3 for lunch you can get a great sandwich with fresh ingredients, such as proper chicken meat. The tea here is legendary, and at 60p a real snip. They also do daily specials like liver and onions, homemade burger, curries etc. It’s FANTASTIC value and has a real old-skool London feel to it. The staff are really friendly too, always smiling and helpful. I’d recommend it to tourists if they’re interested in one of these increasingly rare cafes.
