Duke & Duchess

Very nice bar. Lots of energy and good drinks. Their food is very good. Had the fish and chips and they made it perfectly. The wait staff is very prompt and nice.

Jules chose this place for our last book group. I wasn’t overly impressed by the website, but I’ll give anything a go. We arrived at around 6:30 on a Tuesday. The place wasn’t very full. I guess people don’t go out to dinner in the city after work? We chose a table for four and were immediately greeted by a server wondering how many we had and if we were eating. Four and yes. So she came back with menus and cutlery and then kind of hovered around the table waiting for our drink orders. We weren’t really sure so I sent her off to get tap water. When she came back we ordered our drinks and waited for everyone else.
When they arrived, she kind of hovered some more for drinks. It was a bit offputting, but finally we managed to make a decision, and she was nice enough to change out Jules’ drink when she said she didn’t like it. Great!
I ordered the pie of the day: chicken, leek and bacon. I also got it with chips. I may have to say that this was probably the best pie I’ve had in a pub in London. The crust was so flaky and delicious that I was in heaven. I’m kind of surprised really. The burger looked great, but didn’t seem like it was that good. I tried some of Vicky’s ribs, but they were a bit lacking for me. Robyn loved her fish.
So yeah, it’s a pretty easy place to go to for dinner if you’re in the City and need somewhere to go. Especially if you want pie. I kind of want more pie right now. Grant, stop thinking about pie…

No local beers: only very big corporation owned drinks.
We were over charged when paying our bill– we went to split a 30.52 in half and the waiter put 16 on both our cards. Bill already included 12.5% service. We talked to the waiter 3 times. Even when I called him up on the over charge he still did it.
Food was ok. I had a halloumi, veg and tabouli salad with pesto. Pesto was from a jar.

I was not very attracted by the menu at first, but the food was fantastic and the staff very friendly.
We had a burger and a salad, and both were very tasty and original and feel so fresh.
I totally recommend this place !

This is my favorite pub in the St. Paul’s area. The food is way above ‘pub food’ they have a great chef and staff. The prices are fair and it’s not a total scene, it just has a good vibe and when they have a DJ the music is good too!
They also do 2−4−1 cocktails from 5 – 7 on week days.

Fabulous service and fabulous lunch. The décor is very nice and calm, and it’s not too loud. The food is delicious, and the prices are not outrageous (for London). This should be a go-​to place for client lunches.

I had my 30^th Birthday Party here. I loved this place! Lovely food, great cocktails & superb & helpfull staff. The best venue in London! Well done! Thank you guys!

The Duke & Duchess is a stone throw away from St Paul’s Cathedral and makes a great lunch spot for tourists. But perhaps its location on a side street means it’s not swamped by people reading maps, which is great news for local city workers for lunch looking for either light bites or bigger meals at a reasonable price. The food itself is served in a modern way but without the pretension. The chef takes great care in the freshness of ingredients and quality of overall meal. At my last visit I had a fishcake which was mostly fish, not full of mushy potato.
The venue is also fantastic for larger parties as they can push the tables together to accommodate virtually any sized group, and yet you don’t feel claustrophobic even when there are several parties going on at once (as it was the case during my last visit just before Christmas).
It’s also a great place to catch up one on one with friends, with a selection of drinks and wine on offer.
