I was in London last week for work. My coworkers took me to the Coloinies pub for dinner and drinks. The beer was great and as good as the other pubs we visited. The place was very crowded with after work people like us. My co worker said that by 7:30 it would thin out and like clockwork it did. We ordered our food, 2 entrees and one starter. By 8:15 no sign of our food. A waitress walked by and we tried to get her attention, but she had that stare not looking left or right and making sure no eye contact. She walked by twice and did the same thing. Thanks for the service. Eventually another waitress came by and we asked abort our food. Off she went to check and when she came back informed us that they didn’t have anymore of our starter. Seriously we waited almost an hour for our food, no one came by to tell us anything. At this point we got our money back, My co worker a Londoner informed me that Brits are used to crappy service and really never do anything about it. Well this was the worst ever. I did say something to the manager but got the bloody Yank stare.
Aviod this place at all costs, there’s much better close by

Pas de chance, j’ai distribué déjà trop de bonnes notes aujourd’hui… Ce pub typique anglais est sympa mais vraiment sans plus… Nous y avons été un dimanche et il est situé dans un quartier type «d’affaires» donc c’était très très très calme… Le dimanche dans les pubs, on né sert quasi rien à manger mais ici, c’est pas quasi c’est RIEN… Ah si, on y sert du Pepsi… (que je déteste surtout quand je demande un Coca-​Cola). Il né vaut vraiment pas le détour mais bon je mets 2 étoiles car si ca tombe, en semaine, il est bondé et la nourriture qu’on y sert est bonne… donc «Mouais»…

Decent, unspoilt little pub. Good choice also of draught real ales. People behind the bar quite friendly but not very eager to please.
At times it gets pretty noisy.

«Hm, ich glaube, das hier ist eine Abkürzung»
So in etwa entdeckten wir «The Colonies». Obwohl sehr zentral (an der Victoria Station) gelegen, ist er doch in einer Seitenstraße versteckt, so dass hier nur relativ wenige Touristen eintrudeln — was wirklich schön ist. Der Pub ist authentisch, gemütlich und — wenn er voll ist — wirklich sehr atmosphärisch. (ab 18:00 ist das Haus voll).
Auch erwähnenswert: Hier gibt es Fish and Chips für Vegetarier. Der «Fisch» besteht aus Halloumikäse. Nicht fettig, dafür aber sehr empfehlenswert!

Nice «locals» pub with a decent selection of ale, enjoying a pint if Doom Bar today, reasonable food and most importantly on a summers day some outside space.
Get very busy around 6 with the after work crowd.

The Colonies is typically the first port of call after work for many who work in Victoria, and as a result, at 5:30 it becomes incredibly busy. Patience is key here if you want to get served.
There’s a good selection of drinks and food, although service is often a little slow — they always seem to be understaffed…
In the summer it is ideal as there’s a decent space out the back to sit and relax in, and even better if you don’t mind standing.
So, get there early, get seated and wait for it to fill up!

Pretty nice pub, decent staff and quick service (so long as you get there before 6ish). Good choice of Real Ales.
Also a good place if you want to try and pick up documents from Civil Servants (as there are rather a lot that come here after work). Probably a good place for Torygraph journos to hang out to pick up a misplaced briefcase or USB drive

Only went in here twice when i was working in my office at work for two weeks in Victoria but the two times i did come in here was always fairly busy and quite a small bar so would take quite a while to get served plus i guessed the regular’s would always get served first, they had a few table and chairs outside as it was quite warm at the time so we sat out there dont quite remember the seating inside but i think it was quite small. other than that quite a pleasant pub so if you passing give it a go!

Great Pub, that gets really busy. There is an area at the back with about 20 benches and if you don’t get there before 12.30 during the week, you won’t get a table in at lunchtime.
Standard offering when oit comes to ales and lagers, but the food is well worth visiting for.
Staff turnover is quite low, so the regulars do get served first, but all in all, a 5 star lunschtime pub

The Colonies has bags of potential. It has a wide selection of beers, ales (though more lager oriented than real ale, though they do have ale on, and usually a guest ale) and wine (very good wine selection for a pub, as well). The food is used to be decent, but has now seriously deteriorated. (I’ve only had the lunchtime selection. The seating is varied — from tall tables with bar stools to more normal pub benches, and standing areas with convienient shelves. However, you cannot sit at the bar (and one peek on a Friday night should explain why) — it gets PACKED.
It is an office pub — it fills very quickly, especially at 5.30ish. It is a popular haunt for the local office staff (of which I was one), and on a Friday night, you can barely move for all the warm bodies — indeed, both front and back heave as well.
There is a concrete courtyard in the back, with a couple of heaters. However, the heaters are quite pointless, as they are too small and too high up on the wall to be effective.
All in all, a decent office pub — though I’d imagine it’d be dead on weekends, if indeed it opens at all.

decent for the summer, you can stand outside and soak up the rays. This place is nothing flashy, a standard pub it’s got an interesting mix of locals and civil servants if you find that sort of company interesting!
