casa malevo great steak not sure about the service not happy with the ambiance décor AMARGENTINE i was at casa malevo 4 weeks ago and i had an UNIQUEEXPERIENCE! when i put a piece of sirloin steak in my mouth in less than 5 seconds it took me back to buenos aires where i grew up, it was cooked to perfection!!! the flavour the texture it was absolutely amazing! did it ever happened to you? thats the magic of food right? SOWHY2STARS? well i must say that apart from that sirloin steak everything else was quite average i could even say mediocre, food, steak cooked to perfection, good scallops, beef empanadas ok, humitas undercook and they dont have mash potato? ambience, we were given a VERYSMALL table at what should be the conservatory of the house, tbh i felt claustrophobic couldn’t breath not sure how they squeezed 5 tables in such a small place? i totally understand it ws saturday night probably the night they make most money, they need more tables but COULDYOUPLEASETHINKABOUTYOURCOSTUMERSRESPECTTHEIRSPACE, i could literally feel the guy on the next table breathing in my neck! i honestly couldn’t breath, when asked the waiter he said they had a problem with the heating? and offered to open the door that was next to our table. downstairs they have a private room when i went to the ladies i could see they were all guys they were going wild very loud! service, at the beginning was good we were welcomed for what looked like the manager we were seated at the bar while waiting for our table i only like cocktails, when asked at the bar if they do cocktails barman said WITHANATTITUDE we have wines we are not a cocktail bar! i was left speechless looked at my friend and thats only the beginning of a great night :( if theres anything that makes me a bit anxious when i go to a restaurant is the waiter, in this case the manager not taking notes while im ordering, why? because you can easily make a mistake and guess what? HETOOKOURORDERWRONG! it was 2 scallops we were given 1 and the empanadas as i said the table is so small theres no place for the humitas so the waitress decided to juggle our food inferno of our eyes and try put them all in one plate well the empanadas and humitas ended up on the table agh. a mess! I JUSTWANTEDTOLEAVE!!! :( while having the empanadas we told the waiter that we asked for 2 scallops that arrived 20m later and then wait another 40m for the steak. the waiter had a stinky breath it put me off!!! something else happened with the dessert but im just tired! its a nightmare, the whole service lasted 4.30 hours i was tired wanted to leave awful night! my friend didn’t know what to do to cheer me up so he took me to the mortons club in mayfair berkerly square so i ended up with a smile! the bill doesn’t come cheap take at least £150 if you want a decent meal i contacted casa malevo i told them everything, after such a dreadful experience they came back saying that they will look into it! the experience was far from pleasant I DONTRECOMMENDTHISPLACE you been warned, but if you do go probably try another day than saturday evening, take a mask in case that waiter with stinky breath approach you and the most important write your order and give it to the waiter/manager trust me will save you some precious time!

I came here for dinner on a Sunday evening with a friend when we were both craving steak, but looking for something more unique than Hawksmoor or Gaucho. Casa Malevo was the perfect find, tucked away on a quiet street just a few minutes away from Marble Arch. For starters, we ordered the tomato & buffalo mozzarella salad and the grilled lamb sweetbreads. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the salad, as I thought it was dominated by the green olives that outnumbered both the tomatoes and the rocket leaves. On the other hand, the lamb sweetbreads were delicious; it’s not a large plate but each of the four bites was so, so good. For the main, we both went with the lomo steak, a clear no brainer. This came served with chimichurri and a light salsa, and all I can say is that the chimichurri was absolutely incredible. We also got a side of the papas fritas provenzal to share, which is basically fries with garlic and parsley. The concept reminds me of the garlic fries that you get at festivals /fairgrounds, except that the fries here were perfectly executed, golden and crispy. To accompany all this, we drank a bottle of the Finca La Linda 2012, which was very smooth and easy to drink. I recommend this restaurant for small parties of less than 5 people, great service, and a delicious meal. I think it is a quieter, less hectic version of La Patagonia in Camden.

I am not sure why this place gets such a great review — it is okay but nothing so special… and quite expensive meat for what it is… In my personal opinion, the meat /steak is not good enough to be called Argentinian restaurant.

Great food here, and a really nice atmosphere. If you’re looking for a good quality steak(or any other dish) you could do a lot worse than to come here. Good wine selection and friendly staff top it off, and it’s kind of a refreshing change from most of the other places in the area which are basically just fancy kebab shops!

When I was looking for a new place for a steak, I found Casa Malevo and was happy to discover that it was not too far from where I live, so I could easily walk there. Casa Malevo is located quite centrally in a quiet side street, not far from Marble Arch, so you could get there without too much hassle from almost anywhere in London. As Casa Malevo is an Argentinian restaurant, I had high hopes for my steak. However, I started with a tasty and fresh Sauvignon Blanc and was given a basket full of delicious bread with soft salty butter. That’s how every dinner should start! I did not wait too long, until the friendly waiter brought my steak with crispy chips and peppercorn sauce. The steak itself was big, tender and tasted great. It was not a perfect steak, but it was a decent piece of meat, medium rare, as ordered. The chips were no skinny fries, but proper chips, cooked gold brown for a nice crunch. For dessert I asked for the chocolate fondant. It took the waiter some time to report back to me, that they had run out of this dish, despite another waiter had already put the spoon for the dessert on my table. A little bit grumpy, I asked for the bill. I waited again somewhat longer than expected, and then the waiter came back with a surprise: they did in fact still have the chocolate fondant, it was just their information system that had irritated him earlier. As I was initially eager to sample the chocolate fondant, because it sounded delicious on the menu, I ordered it a second time. This time nothing went wrong and I actually got a rich chocolate fondant combined with raspberry sorbet and hazelnuts. A great combination, pleasant to eat. Overall, my dinner at Casa Malevo was very good. While the restaurant was not too full, the service staff were very attentive, later they were perhaps just too busy. However, I enjoyed my dinner and am happy that I found a decent Argentinian(steak) restaurant in the area.

I’d been here a couple of times before but always on someone else’s corporate dime. This time I had wife and teenage daughter in tow but I deliberately sought it out as I knew how good it was. It didn’t disappoint. Knowing how busy it had been previously, I booked in advance but was surprised when we showed up 15 minutes early for our 8 p.m. reservation at how quiet it was and it didn’t really fill while we were there. Perhaps it was because it was Friday night but I would still recommend booking. We ordered cosmos — with Coke for the teenaged one — which arrived promptly but were lacking a kick due to miserly proportion of alcohol therein. This was my only quibble in the catering department. I had the black pudding starter which was quite tasty although not black pudding as we know it in this part of the world. Daughter ordered prawns and was appalled to see they were still whole and she had to dismember them before eating but did declare that it was worth the effort. The steaks were sublime — three rib-eyes, cooked to perfection served with really great fries and all washed down with a superb, yet inexpensive, Pinot Noir. The ladies shared a dessert whilst I had a further glass of the Pinot. Bill was an eye-watering £170 which I thought was very expensive given we hadn’t exactly pushed the boat out on the wine. I will probably go back but only if someone else is paying. 4 stars(at least for food) but the price brought it back to three.

A new, authentic Argentinian steakhouse restaurant. Very New York East Village style: small and intimate. We were able to make a last-minute reservation in the private dining room downstairs, which actually was a lot more appealing than the rest of the place so it worked out nicely. It can suit any where from 7 — 11 people comfortably. I give it the 3 stars because I was pretty disappointed with my meal, but please note I do not eat steak, hah! I had the chicken, which was way too fatty and over cooked. My friends weren’t too thrilled with their steaks either, again, too fatty. The empanada starters were pretty good, as were the sides. Not excellent, but tasty. The wine was excellent, if a little pricey. The cocktails weren’t well done as they were a little too ambitious. I’d recommend trying this place during the week if you’re in need of a protein fix, but I do think that many of the dishes were too heavy. If you like fatty cuts of meat, this is your spot!

I was introduced to this place via the owner of Cocomaya across the road. Casa Malevo’s owner Diego used to work at elBulli. O.M.G. Need I say more? The first chance I had to try this place was for breakfast on a miserable winter’s day. The poached eggs and blood sausage when down well with Quilmes. Superb and made the Sunday suck less. Tonight I’ve enjoyed the fillet steak, fries & glass of red wine. Simply served in an authentic Argentine home style. The guilty dessert surprised me… it made me feel like a better man for eating it. That’s how good it was. For 40GBP it’s a little steep, though the good service, ambiance and location of the place make up for it. I wouldn’t like to compare it to a place like Hawksmoor, though if you’re looking to relax & enjoy a good steak with a little culture thrown in, you really must try this place.

Steak is as important to me and my parents, my love of dinosaurs and my unquenchable thirst for sparkling water, which is why I fell head over heels in love with Casa Malevo. I was recently invited to the restaurant opening, so whilst I only paid for my wine, the food was free. The prices below are accurate because I stole a menu. Before I begin I want to thank the management for an amazing night. I wish you all the best with the restaurant. A brand new restaurant that has just opened up just off of Edgware Road, Casa Malevo will certainly give the likes of Gaucho Grill a run for their money. The restaurant itself is a perfect balance of atmosphere and privacy. Upstairs you can sit in the window, drink some wine at the bar and watch the world go by or if you are having a special occasion there is private function room downstairs. The atmosphere is top notch too. Lots of buzz, but not so much that you have to shout to your companions. The food itself is really quite special. I started with the empinandas(4 nuggets) which were delicious. However, if you really want the best starter, go with the warmed chorizo which was like a miniature climax in my mouth space. For main there really should only be one choice. As you would expect from an Argentinian restaurant there is strong selection. I would recommend them all, but if pushed the Sirloin is magnificent. Go for any size and ask for it to be cooked in a particular way and that is exactly how it will arrive at the table. The pricing is reasonable expect to pay around 20 nuggets for a 300g sirloin. Totally worth it. Watch out for the absolutely divine chilli dressing on the table. You’re meant to dip bread in it, but I ate it with everything that arrived at the table. Had I not been with a female I probably would have had it with the crème brûlée too. While we are on the subject the crème brûlée was excellent. and only cost 5 nuggets. Wine is standard price, but if going for a red get the Malbec it made my evening(22 nuggets) Goucho has always been a firm favourite of mine, but it’s sometimes so dark in there I barely know what I’m eating. Casa Malevo is vibrant, fresh and has an overwhelming sense of «homeliness» to it. The staff are fantastic and are attentive without sitting in your lap ready to swoop each time your glass is dry. Those who know me and those who had read my reviews previously, will know that I am often in search of good steaks and good roasts in London and it gives me great pleasure to add Casa Malevo to the list. Book now because this deserves to be one of the hottest paces to eat in London this year. Sexy Rob* *It’s been a while since last I reviewed on Unilocal,so allow me to apologise. I had a small run in with a glass window and let’s just say 7 stitches later and no feeling in my right hand I won’t be rushing into another fight with a sand based product.
