Rude staff. They are ‘nice’ to a few maybe but I found them very disciminating in their attitude. No smile, no warm welcome. They didn’t even ask me what I wanted! I have lived in the area for a long time but would not recommend this place to anyone. I visited this place twice and witnessed and experienced things that are too disgracefully shocking to write about here. Suffice to say I contacted Hither Green community society plus s family of the family that runs this place. Uninterested response. On the flip side, any outing to ‘You don’t bring me flowers’ the exact opposite. A warm welcome and very positive vibe. If I’m ever in that area, I will only go there. Having discussed COGH with others, I am not alone in my experiences. An absolute, abhorrent disgrace.

Well, this isn’t a review of the Café itself as every Saturday night the place is taken over by a vietnamese family who do traditionnal cooking. They have a very small menu, but everything is cooked perfectly. I usually take the Bun, but got tempter by the salt and pepper crusty tofu and I didn’t regret my choices. Add homemade prawn crackers for the starters. You can either order for take out or go to eat in, but bare in mind the coffee is small and it’s one family doing the cooking, serving and cleaning so they can only take so many orders. Best option is to call them at 6pm(when they open) either to book a table or get take out for later in the evening.

Hangry was the not word for what I had after leaving this place… I was saving myself for a lovely brunch and read previous reviews about The café of Good Hope as well as living in Hither Green for a long time. Unfortunately it was terrible… I came in and there was no greeting, I asked where I could eat as it looked packed and the two shocked guys pointed me to the dirty plate filled table where I went over to sit. The collection of coffee cups and plates were not picked up for another 5−10mins and I wasn’t asked if I’d like to order either. The mummies left the floor strewn with bread crumbs and staff did not tidy any of it up. So I then went went down to Oscars in Ladywell and had a brilliant afternoon lunch with cappuccino and low and behold the waitress said she also had bad service at CoGH too!

A cute little café to kick back in. There are not too many coffee shops in the area so it’s a welcome addition. The staff are quite relaxed, they may forget your order from time to time but it’s all very chilled out and friendly so they can be forgiven. I’ve only partaken in coffees, cold drinks and croissants, so I can’t comment on the food but nothing to complain about. Great little garden to drink in when the sun is shining and very family friendly. Café of Good Hope lost a point from my review when today I snagged and marked my coat on a sharp pointy bit sticking out their wall. I have to admit I didn’t feel the staff would have cared if I complained or pointed out the offending splinter, so I didn’t mention it. Otherwise a nice coffee spot.

Yesterday I had a coffee here and i really enjoy it. The staff are very nice and friendly, they serve quick and with smile, as it should be. The Café is owned by a some foundation and while you are drinking your coffee you fell like you are doing good. Coffee of good hope is one of my places.

What an excellent street café! We were looking for a Sunday Breakfast that wasn’t necessarily a fry-up; a place that offered good ingredients and tastes but was it possible in and around Catford? I’m not too sure the Barista really understood how to make a Cortado but the coffee was a like a strong Latte. I chose Bacon and Halloumi with Rocket and Chilli Jam Sandwich which I loved and haven’t as yet managed to recreate. We sat on the street which was fine. It is a little pricier but you get waht you pay for and this seems a nice place.

We seem to be spoilt for choice now in ‘The Green’ for lovely coffee shops, not that I’m complaining in the slightest, and The Café of Good Hope sure is one of them, located on the ‘Lewisham side’ of Hither Green — just a short walk from the train station. What’s even better is the coffee shop is owned by the Jimmy Mizen foundation, so it’s a community focused and driven organisation too so you really are making a difference. There is always a great atmosphere in here with a lovely mix of clientele and there’s even a garden and play area for children — it’s very family friendly. The food and drink it delicious — I can recommend the coffee; latte; ham and cheese toasties and numerous selections of cakes — yum! The staff are really friendly; polite and welcoming too so you really cannot fault the place! Hither Green is a fantastic, fast-growing location of young professionals and commuters — I love living here! — and The Café of Good Hope is a brilliant advert for it!

This really is the best café in the area, they serve amazing tea/coffee and do a wonderful brunch menu. It has a great atmosphere and has really lifted the feeling in the Hither Green area. To top it off the staff are warm, friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome what more could you ask for?!

We’re getting a bit spoilt for choice with cafes and coffee shops in «The Green», and the Café of Good Hope is a charming addition. Light and spacious, yet still cosy and quaint, the café has a friendly vibe, and the fact that all the profits go to such a good cause — the Jimmy Mizen Foundation — is lovely. It’s worth paying a vist to support the Foundation, of-course, but you won’t be disappointed by the yummy treats on offer. Soups, pastries, great coffee and — seriously — the BEST Victoria sponge I’ve ever eaten, with the butteriest butter icing I’ve ever tasted. Can’t wait to see the garden makeover!
