A mixed bag here. First, let me preface this by saying that a party of about 20 of us ate here on a stag do. So we were hardly concerned about Michelin stars… The food: Was pretty average for an Indian restaurant in London. My chicken tikka masala was really not that good in my personal opinion(not enough spiciness, and too coconutty — did I just invent that word?), although others’ dishes were better. The price: Was actually quite expensive I thought, for what we got. The atmosphere: Was fantastic… for a stag do of 20 people… and would have been divorce-threatening for a romantic meal for 2. The service: Was excellent! Really laid back and friendly about our debauchery. To the extent that they gave us a free bottle of Drambuie! So for our stag do purposes, I would(and will) give it 4 stars — they were really great! For a quiet meal with a loved one or a family… yikes.

FOODPOISONING!!! Recently in London on a business trip and went to this restaurant because it was in at the area and had decent reviews on Unilocal. First clue, something was wrong when we entered –the place was empty. Despite the subtle warning a colleague and I ordered the same combination meal. I am not a big fan of Indian food but it did taste pretty good. I actually thought that maybe I had misjudged Indian food in the past… Until… The next day when my colleague and I both got violently ill with food poisoning! I seemed to be ok at first but then I started with my own fever… Then I got really sick and I couldn’t keep anything down. The Indian food was the only meal we had in common all week so we know the cause of or illness was this restaurant. The next day instead of enjoying our only day off in London sightseeing we both spent the entire time stuck at the hotel. Café Mumbai, stay away for your own health and well being!

It’s not hard to find Indian food in London. It’s kind of like 7 – 11’s or Circle K’s in America. They’re everywhere! But this one was fantastic! We had lunch there and it was yummy and full of flavor! We Started off with the TANDOORIMIXEDGRILL … £14.90 Consists of tandoori chicken, Iamb tikka, chicken tikka, sheek kebab, king prawn served with salad & nan. This was a great appetizer as there was enough for all 3 of us. We were still a little hungry, so we also ordered: KASHMIRI Prepared in a sauce with fresh mixed tropical fruit and exotic spice, a sweet tasting surprise with the CHICKEN/MEAT … £9.50 …and… VINDALOO South Indian dish widely know for its fry fabulous rich hot taste. Black pepper, lemon, ginger & red chilli are a few of the spices added to qualify this as dish most extravagantly hot.(VERYSPICY!!) with VEGETABLES … £7.90 …and of course we ordered the PILAURICE(Basmati rice)…£2.90 These were all very tasty dishes and so full of flavor! The service was also great and the waiter was very friendly! The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and clean and if you’re lucky like we were you can get a window seat and do some people watching. So if you’re ever in the Soho area of London, do stop and have some lunch or some dinner and I guarantee you it will be worth it!

Went here based on other Unilocal reviews. It is a relatively small restaurant(around 40 seats) but I waited just 5 – 10 mins for a table on a Saturday night. Had 2 poppodums with mixed pickles to begin with, which were delicious. From there, had a chicken madras(nice, but not spicy enough, and a little thin) and a garlic naan, which was moist and very garlicky. With a large beer, I paid a little over 20 pounds, which I thought was reasonable. Based on the comments below, I checked the bill, found that a service charge was included, and declined the gratuity. Would definitely go there again and it is very conveniently placed, near Piccadilly Circus, Chinatown, and Leicester Square.

We had gone in to Grace around the corner and not seen a waitress that thought we were worthy of taking an order from. Walked outside and around the corner. We were warmly greeted here and the meal was exceptional.

First of all, pet peeve – big tv as the centerpiece! Ugh. Luckily it wasn’t on. The menu is ridiculously expansive – almost to the point of overwhelming. The food was good, albeit a bit too greasy for my taste. My other pet peeve with them – £3.50 for a soda. WTF? Hope I didn’t get screwed on the gratuity issue as mentioned by John…

This place has nice décor, friendly staff and very good food. Vindaloo was unctuous, red and the hottest I’ve had in a while —(interestingly, the carrots were julienne and the onion was in strips too — rather than finely chopped). Could’ve done with chopsticks.(joke). Main course, side, rice, a chapatti and a couple of pints — £31. Reasonable value for this area in the theatre district. Overall, so far a solid 4* plus. Then the bill comes; I pay with a card and the waiter asks«Would I like to add a gratuity», well«no, since you’ve already stuck on a 10% service charge». Feigned surprise; «Oh yeah.» And I was the third person to get this treatment. Guys; it’s shoddy and cheap. Stop it. Three stars

Indian food, good Indian food is a passion of ours. In the USA we get some good Indian but its always toned down for the ‘American’ palate. Of course one of the first things we did in London was find a good spot to have a bite. It was delicious, and HOT! I mean palate melting, eye watering, feeling it course its way throughout your whole digestive system, deliciously, deliriously, wonderfully, authentically HOT! I had Chicken Tikka Masala, I honestly cannot remember the name of my hubby’s dish — we shared family style. Spectacular. I think the forks melted in the food. Of course they do ask how hot you prefer and we did ask for it hot. We wanted the real thing and we got it. It was perfect. The Naan was delicious and all the food fragrant, authentic and quite delicious. We can’t wait to come back and have some more.

So we’ve heard that the Indian Restaurants in Lodon are legendary. As good or even better than India — Being great fans of this type of cuisine we had to find out for ourselves. Disclaimer — Never been to India so there is no point of comparison– But this place in London is in my book, the real thing. Authentic as they come, the food is spicy, really spicy just the way I like it — the kind that makes me sweat on a cold November night — If you find yourself in the Picadilly Circus area — totally check this place out — good service, authentic food, reasonably priced– What’s not to like …
